I love video's that are down to earth and real like this one. True Story: I did a bedroom ceiling 10 years ago. It looked so bad I decided to popcorn it to hide the imperfections. For 10 years that ceiling was a thorn in my side. Then I came across your site and as I watched more and more of your videos I became brave enough to try again. It took me about 2 weeks by myself, but man it looks like a professional did it. My daughter actually came home to visit this past week-end and I showed her the bedroom. She asked me who did I hire to do it. It was then that I told her I learned it all from "Vancouver Carpenter" My son is "The Cajun Ninja" on You Tube and Face Book so I know how important it is to have supporters. This guy just used insane skills, expert experience, and basic tools to do in 40 minutes what would take me 4 hours. I'm shooketh. Thanks for showing me how to improve

Number one thing I learned from this video is higher a professional if I ever need drywall work done. Thank you. I’d be absolutely covered head to toe in that stuff. Started out searching for how to replace cracked grout in my kitchen. RU-vid is a hell of a drug.
In Australia we called it dipping, but only used it for vertical internal angles did it for a few yrs that way then I brought tapex and tape pro (banjo style) and 8” 10” 12” 14” intex pro flushing boxes, worked in commercial and residential for 15 yrs but then I got cancer and no longer do it. Don’t really miss it too much either have a great day 👍
As a self proclaimed professional, in order to guarantee adhesion, you have to say SLAP every time to slap the tape on your joints. Saying SLAP in your head is acceptable but less effective.
I am actually a trim Carpenter and do not do drywall/taping, but I really enjoyed watching you do the work you did. 32 yrs in the business and I never saw the slap tape method before. Good video. Subscribed.
I never seen such a device before. That thing does a great job mudding the tape. It was also very fast. You did that entire room in no time. Thanks once again Ben.
He said "I'm struggling here" and I laughed. I'm an amateur, but man, would take me so much longer and could never make a video that actually helped anyone do this, AT THE SAME TIME I was working. It's the most instructional thing on drywall I've found and he's young. Also, just learned he is a very very decent skateboarder, which is another hobby I had when a bit younger. Slop bucket is my method too. Slappy is a skater term too.
I been doing rock for almost 40 yrs All with pan an knife. I have used banjos but I like this method. Nice work bro. You care about your work. Thumbs up
Excellent as always. I've been doing home drywall projects for 3 or 4 months, and watching your videos the whole time. They have taught me to actually do a pretty good job, I think. You would be a great guy for a young person to apprentice under.
I'm about to start my first entire-home drywall install and have been searching videos for the method most suitable to me. You had me at "easier on the shoulders than a banjo"! Being 60 years old that is important. You provided me with every answer to my questions and I'll be using this method. Thanks!
ur a good dude, been in the biz 25 years and i only do the worst of the worst of the worst! most wall seams I float are 1-3" out.. Ive almost entirely closed up new manufactured homes and residential jobs every other drywall guy said NOPE too your one of the few guys I think of as an equal as far as experiance... all the tips and tricks you share are the same ones I use too... bazookas are just to big/messy/and complicated for remodel work, the banjo and this method will always be quicker when you factor in clean up! I still learn stuff daily. keep up the good work bro!
I really have learned a lot from your videos. I did recently buy a banjo after a renovation job. I hated hand taping for 15 years. I’ve been a carpenter since 1996. Thank you for your cheery attitude!
I'm been a drywall finisher since 1997. I've been a drywall Foreman in companies in states from Colorado to Maine. I owned my own business and used all the taping tools except this one. At only 45 I'm having a little trouble dealing with the physical demands that drywall has on your body. I think I'm going to try this method. I won't be having to hold the weight of a banjo or a bazooka out in front of me. I also hate having to deal with a broken bazooka on a job that needs to be done ASAP. Well that's all jobs. Also if you want some advice from someone that's been a drywall finisher for 25 year then this is what I can tell you. Everyone is the best drywall finisher after two years of doing it. Just ask them. They will tell you that they are. Truth is you can always learn something that can make your life as a drywall finisher easier. Just when I think I seen and done it all I learn something new. Thanks for the videos.
Of all the how-to-drywall videos I've watched, yours are the most similar to the my job environments. And I've used or adapted many of your techniques. Thanks bud! I look forward to trying a SuperTaper in the near future. I was sold on it when you said it was easier on the shoulders than a bazooka or banjo.
We’ve saved so much money because of your videos! Thank you! We pre-fill, tape and apply the 1st coat THEN pay a professional to do the finish coat. No sanding! Totally worth it. Have you ever tried a “finishing box tool”? There’s a few videos on RU-vid of guys doing entire apartments unbelievably fast. Totally out of our league. Just an idea. I’m sure you’re always looking for new content. Thank you again!
First time watching this guy.... trying to load that tape at the beginning and the mixer not plugged in,I thought what on earth is he doing! Then he goes into full into professional mode! Great video 👍. Ive got absolute no interest in doing this as a job but it was interesting to watch none the less.
Never get tired of watching you Ben ( sorry that sounds kinda creepy lol) I have a full set of Columbia 42” compound tube, roller, flushers etc and loved how well my basement turned out all because of Ben. I’ve since purchased a 18” tomahawk and can’t wait to use it. Next on my list is the super taper from Columbia.....and then I would like to maybe get a 10 & 12” box.....so COLUMBIA, It’s time to support Ben because he’s made us a fan and we are supporting you. ....would love to see him get sponsored with some goodies that we in turn can buy.....he’s just down the street...take him to Timmy’s and set him up!!

Finally I tried your bucket method last week, and I saved a lot of time. Works great ! Note 1: coating a long run of tape was fine for flat wall surfaces, but for corners & ceiling (without stitls, roller and ....), I needed to coat shorter runs of tape, otherwise the mud would set too much before I had time to scrape the joints. Note 2: on smaller jobs, the incovenient, for me, with your columbia tape mudder, is the big quantity of mud to mix. Which leaves me with half bucket of liquified mud. I use a cheaper and simpler mudder (tape buddy) which allows me to mix smaller amount of mud. OHHH and your "SLAP" method.... yeahhhh....That will take care of my swearing while taping the ceilings... Thanks. :D Great vid. :)
@@curtisbme Hey Curtis, thx for taking the time to write your suggestion. But I fail to see how P90 would save me time, as I probably would have to apply a coat of mud on both sides of corners, THEN apply the P90. (Considering that the P90 is probably thinker and would not work well in the mudder). But I'd probably use something like the P90 in corners which have a wider angle than 90 degrees. And to be honest, of all the types of tape I have worked with, paper is still my preference. I always get very nice results (eventhough it's only 20% of my day work). Regards
@@claudews529 If you are using that mudder, then no, it probably won't work will with that. I've certainly no experience with that combo though I am now curious how well it would work... I was mentioning it as you commented about needing to do the corners in smaller batches as it is drying out. I like it for the work I've done simply due to the quality. Straightness, strength and easy of finishing without tears or wrinkles.

I understood in your first reply that it wasn't clear that it's part of my job, which is, simply put, stripping down to the bone kitchens and bathrooms in old apt buildings, and rebuild to modern (current) "standards", from A to Z. So I'm equiped with tools for all fields, but to a certain point. Back to the P90, it's obvious to me that for an home owner it would make things easier to use P90, with better end results. Hope that clarifies things, Again, thank you for the suggestion. I like to hear other perspectives. :)

I am so happy to see this video. I have been using the Drywall Buddy, which is great. But, I always wish for a method of taping that doesn't require going back to fill the hopper so often. This method makes perfect sense to me. Doing a 3 bedroom house next month, and will give this a try. You're the best VC!
Nice job, I use the same method, I use a mud box (hopper), pull my tape through, into my bucket, depending on the project, I’ll put the tape on my butts, but the majority of it is just on my angles. I’ll come by after I get my bottoms done, and flush them out. I put my angles in by hand, one side on my 2nd coat, other side on my finish coat. I prefer this method, as much tape as my bucket holds, I can get tons done and flushed out. To avoid getting my clothes full of mud, I’ve been wearing a painting suit. Nice job man. Keep it up.
Why can't I find guys like you to work with!!!! I've heard about this taping system but haven't seen it till now. Its neat and I might have to buy one just to have it, but that bucket on the hip would kill it for me. I'll stick with the bazooka until my shoulder gives out completely then maybe switch to this. Awesome video and great sense of humor. Keep it up
What you said about the strain on your shoulders by a bazooka is spot on. Mine really exhaust me if im doing ceilings and the tube is full. Ive got where i only pump it about half full for ceilings. I may just try this supertaper method.

I've used the super taper a little bit, it is a nice ,uncomplicated tool too. The best part of it is that ,more than one person can used it at once. I noticed you lay the tape from left to right, doing the slap thing...just like me, but when comes the wiping part; I am left handed, you are right handed. When tackling the angles; I find it somewhat quicker to use the tube applicator with the angle applicator head to put the mud on, then use my taping spool to apply the dry tape into the angle. To be honest too, I have much less trouble tearing dry tape than a wet one. Another observation; If you ever had the strap from your stilts slip off the end of your foot, just tie them in an X fashion if the strap length is adequate . It will NEVER happen again. You do great work man...keep it up. I'm also doing my best in that field...one province over
Hey Ben. Thank's for all the drywall videos! You have improved my skills and knowledge 100%. I do more construction than drywall. My biggest problem is outside corners. I tried metal, metal and paper, and plastic. They were a constant struggle for me until I found this product. I know you tried the preformed inside corners and were not to happy. You should try the " No-Coat Flexible Corners" and use them on the outside corners! They are so easy and foolproof! I don't work for them but I think if you did a video you would help a lot of people out. They may seem pricey but there is no waste and come in a roll making them easy to store!! I think you will be pleased.
I've been doing differant types of contract work but really want to up my taping and drywall skills. Ready to upgrade from just hand taping. Your video convinced me on this method for sure. Thanks a lot for your video's!!!!
Once again you nailed it with this video!! Sure there are ways to be faster, but hey! You are not a piece worker looking for volume to make ends meet! You are an artisan taking time to do it right!! Way to go buddy! And btw you taped that whole ceiling in less than 45 min while talking and walking on stilths! That is pretty darn good! Cheers !
I have soooooo much drywall repairing to do so I've been watching your videos. I'm going to try my first repairs today! Starting small first but hopefully will work my way to the others. 🤞
I watched that kilted guy first and bought a Tape Buddy. I see you made a video fot it as well and the banjo taper. I'm just taping a bathroom and I don't even know if I really need to tape the corners. It was plaster and a ceiling was added I guess on top of the other one. I skim coated the ceiling and used a Level 5 24 inch spreader on an extension pole. That worked pretty well. I did the ceiling twice and I did a basic mudding before those first two coats. I decided I had better tape the corners at the ceiling and down the walls just to be safe. I had removed tape. I'm just learning and trying to figure out how to work with joint compound.

Dude, bro! Super annoying how easy you make this stuff look...haha. I taped this weekend the old fashion way and had mud all over myself and floor, but not enough under the paper tape of course...lol. I'm obviously a beginner, but learning. Love the vids man. Keep 'em coming!
You have been soooo much help in my quest to fix drywall flaws, tape that's popping off ceilings (nevermind finishing ceilings after scraping off 40 year old popcorn. yuck). Can't deny it though, I did chuckle way too hard at slapping butts.
I'm a diy'er and that seems a good, reasonably priced tool. Seems a good method with a helper too, get them to slap (and get mud all over their hands) you I wipe down, thus staying clean. And here in East Coast Canada you can get mud in the blue lid from CGC that is conventional (Heavyweight??) all purpose and great for taping / coating corner beads.

Great video. After the slap I'd be running my fingers along the tape edge, then playing banjo on my shirt, then falling off the stilts with all the mud on the floor. Also slapping mud in my eyes. You have practiced all this. Looks great choice of kit. Bazooka would just blow my head off I think.
You ever get blisters where you pull it with your thumbs? I’m a bazooka guy. Yeah, at first you’ll want to throw the thing out the window, but use it for two or three jobs and you’ll never look back. The super taper Is definitely faster than hand taping, but I think a banjo is faster and certainly cleaner. But to each his own.
You have a lot of videos. Been sorting through them to find if i need to use quickset or mud for my application. My drywall where the ceiling and wall meet has a crack about 6ft. Prob house settling but its a real pain. My thought is tape for this application and quick set since it dries harder. I’m a newbie to all this but feel i can accomplish this task after seeing some of your tutorials.

Nice job. Always looking to learn new methods. What people dont understand that everybody has they own way of doing things. So something that works for me it may not work for you. You just need to find what's the best for your style of tapping. Just watch and learn new ways so you can add them to your style of tapping. Great job. Also great job on explaining every detail the best you can👍
@@Here_Today_ I'm hella OCD when I drywall finish. When I'm done, I touch up my work, you would be surprised what most finishers miss if you take a 100 watt light bulb to a wall in the dark.
SLAP!! SLAP!! SLAP!! Love this guy!! OK, whom among us wouldn't stop the damned tape when he messed up - AS WE ALL DO?? Drywalling is an art when it comes to ceilings coming together w/an 8 pitch but it's comparable to spraying an exterior in Phoenix, all curved, dried mud. You can make 10 mistakes and redress them all no harm done. But I like this guy - maybe cause I prefer paper tape...?
i saw a guy that had a small 3' by 5' scaffold that he welded with wheels and it had 2 plank boards one was about 16" off the ground and the second was like 40 inches or so off the ground and they were like big stair steps. he would put his buckets on the first plank so he didnt have to bend over so much and he put his buckets on the top plank when he was on the stilts. it was a pretty slick deal
