How do you know if your outboard stator is bad? You’ll probably just need a multimeter to find out.
In this video from Boats.net, John will show you two outboard stator tests that can give you some clues to the health of your stator. We’ll perform both a static test and a live test with a known outboard stator output value to compare our results against. You’ll need to get these specs for your specific outboard. In both tests, we’re measuring across the three coils that make up the stator, measuring resistance in the static test and AC volts in the live test.
The stator is an essential part of the charging system on your outboard, and understanding the symptoms of an outboard stator failure can help point you in the right direction when it’s time to go to work.

My run at half speed got about 20 min all the way to my first fishing spot,fish for 30 min or so the restart it and take off and it runs great the rest of the day

Did you start the motor with wires from the stator connected to the rectifier and then unplug that connection and test the voltage, or did/could you start the motor without the stator wires being connected to the rectifier?

you can start without as its controlling just the charging system and not the ignition system

I can't even get my connection apart,its almost as if someone used crazy glue to connect,you took yours apart so easy,Im wondering if mine is melted together,,is it okay to spray penetrating oil ?

What role does the stator play in outboard ignition? My 92 Johnson 60hp won't crank. I've replaced power pack, plugs and fuel pump. Can the stator cause no spark when attempting to crank the motor?
