Overall good to excellent content; just have a minor correction. Dodge did NOT specify the Carter transfer pump; Dodge did not adhere to Cummins lift and distance from pump to fuel pickup specifications. Other (Freightliner, for example) installations of the VP44-equipped ISB engines were fitted with the same Carter transfer pump.
I have a 2001 Dodge 2500 4x4 5.9 Cummins with a custom rebuilt VP44 (not by Bosch, way better that a Bosch built) with about 300k miles. I also have a 2006 Dodge 2500 4x4 with 212k miles, that of course is a common rail with the CP3 high pressure pump. The 2001 got full gauges within a year or so and the 2006 got them immediately. I think it's essential for any diesel owner to put gauges on to monitor several functions that can cause problems. I put 2 OEM lift pumps on the 2001 and had a 3rd under the seat in case it was needed. Only takes about 15 minutes to change one. Since I had full gauges on the truck I could replace the lift pump as the pressure started to decrease. Got tired of replacing it, generally around 45,000 miles, and put a F.A.S.S. system on and sold the OEM one that was under the seat. It has been on about 19 years and has about 200k miles now, still works perfect. Put gauges on your trucks. Fuel pressure is essential. EGT's will help you not overheat your turbo, especially if you tow. Boost gauge will help you determine if you have a leak or a waste gate issue. Help your motor have the long life they are capable of. Another note, I use a diesel additive in every tank full. Lubricates pumps and injectors for a long life. #2 diesel is not so good any more.

Since the border of this gauge is metal, whenever you set it on top pf the windshield you may want to place under three points of the metalic border something like three pieces of duct tape or any thick enough material, so at least three points of the metal housing of the gauge rest directly on top of duct tape resulting in absorbing its vibrational impact against your shield which may not break soon but if one day the windshield is too cold or its vibration coincide with the gauge's vibration may crack your windshield.
i have a 2003 ram 2500 and have it it for 10 years and never replaced a pump until now. i had lost power changed the filter everything was ok then a few days later the pump directly behind the fuel filter went out, so i replaced that 200$ autozone but then a week later the engine started bucking, to find out i have bad fuel and the tank needs to be droppped and all fuel lines purged and cleaned, i still confused about all this talk on the 2 pumps one behind the filter and one in the tank, dodge says i have both. i would like to remove all stock pumps and install a fass.
Unfortunately the test gauge kit is no longer available from Oregon Fuel Injection. The gauge kit was made by Banks and they discontinued it so OFI can no longer get them.
I have a fast fuel system with a Edge programmer digital readout on my fuel pressure bouncing around between 15 and 19 will not stay steady change the fuel return valve and had to put in a new crank sensor still bouncing around
does the fuel sending unit out of the tank have a pump in it? im kinda confused because i see a a lot of videos that claim if you have a pump behind the fuel filter you do not have one at the tank and if there is no pump at the fuel filter you have a conversion kit and the pump is at the tank. well my 2003 ram 2500 is at dodge right now with contaminated fuel and the are dropping the tank and cleaning everything. they claim i have 2 pumps and want to change both. I know i have a pump behind the filter because i changed it a month ago. i have been looking at replacing the fuel pump with a Fass fuel pump. but a draw straw is required if you have a pump at the tank. IF you install a Fass pump are all the stock pumps in the system not used anymore?

I have a 1998.5 RAM 2500 5.9 24 valve Turbo Diesel that is throwing a code P0216 "Injection Pump Timing Failure" I received a quote from the mechanic for $6350 to replace the VP44 pump and all fuel injectors. He says the fuel pressure is 10 pounds and should be 8 pounds and the excess pressure is resulting in the diesel fuel to foam and not stay in a liquid form. Does this sound right? What is the proper way to diagnosis this error code? Many thanks for the information.

Hey there, I have a 99 dodge ram diesel Cummins motor was driving it and it just turned off crank it up. It will start up and shot right off. Been trying to show trouble shoot this and having no luck any ideas.
The problem that shocked me today since I know recently I diesel my truck was the empty alarm went off and needle went down so, due to the doubt I diesel it again, and I paid at a non familiar pump really less than I used to fill my tank, is a 1999 3500 the one I have..so, I realized i guess something is not working properly in my truck so.. i have to check its cause. the truck is moving fine but, the gauge is looking empty even after I fill the tank today.
You could but some say to install a gauge after the filter to ck for true pressure going into the VP44 since that is what is really important. Ps, I know this is an old post but thought it might help others.
I have a question. My 02. I want to check my fuel pressure but I don’t have that valves to tap into on the back of my fuel filter. My raptor 150 is hooked into that. Can I check pressure off the vp44. Where the hard like goes in from the bottom of the filter ?
Buying an 01 and wanting to change out the pump, add a gauge and maybe the big line kit. Could someone who has done it, please give me their opinion on best pump, gauge and if I should install the big line kit. Also, Ive seen people who have replace the fuel filter housing with the one for the 12V. Is that recommended also? Thanks!
Quick question for ya, my 01 ram doesn't have the port right off of the fuel filter like yours does. Is there anywhere else to check what my pump is pushing? I checked a port that was on my injection pump and I think it was the high side port but I'm not 100% sure. My truck died on me one day out of nowhere and I hadn't been able to get it cranked back up since, I changed the fuel filter and like I said checked the pressure either going into my injection pump or going out and it was running 20 psi once I got the pump running. Any idea at all what I should do from here?
You can bleed your fuel lines with the one on the injection pump after you change f filter. Just cycle the pump and push in the pin like airing down a tire. You can also connect pressure gauge there
Question: I noticed your valve is in the same place as mine on the back of the filter housing. Is this the best place to test or should I put a valve at the banjo bolt in the pump so it's testing right before it goes into the vp44?
I must live right, I bought a 98 24v with 150k and the original pump. Put a gauge on it today..stupid easy, hard line comes out the top of the filter, goes to 8in rubber hose and back to hard line..I cut the rubber hose, stuck in a 3/8 brass T, on one leg of the T I soldered a fitting for 1/8 copper line and ran it to a$15 marshall liquid filled gauge..I wouldnt run a gauge inside the truck on a gas deal .copper line and diesel dont bother me..I guess 8 psi draggin a load up a mountain is fine
On acceleration, my 2000 24 valve Cummins with 203,000 miles SOMETIMES hesitates and hiccups a bit, and has a hard time getting to hwy speed (55-60mph) then takes off like nothing is wrong. Could that be a fuel psi problem?
Could be that the fuel filter is clogged or dirty! Even if it looks good and not wrong with the filter you better replace it. I had the same thing happening with my 99 24 valve sometimes and just did a new fuel filter in before starting to try and check other things. It was running great again with a new fuel filter in and does have 20 psi on idle and around 15 on acceleration.
94 24 valve cummings , Was ran out of fuel , refueled bled system truck runs and shows good pressure when you start and idle but drops way,way down under load and no pulling power . replaced list pump and no better . also cant hear the pump run when cycling the ignition the the pressure comes up . anyone ?

I HAVE A 99 DODGE DIESEL AND IT HAS ONE IN THE TANK AND ONE ONE THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE BLOCK it runs great untill i get to a half tank of fuel then it dies and u have to put fuel in it and bleed the air out of the injectors i no i'm not getting fire to the pump in the tank don't no why yet its not a fuse or a relay , i guess the pump on the side of the block is sucking the fuel out untill it gets to ahalf a tank and then it can't suck anymore HELP ANYONE
So I can’t find this shrewder valve any where. I have a flat bolt on the back of the fuel filter housing. I also have an airdog pump installed. (Not by me) the truck will not accelerate, it starts and idles fine. Is there another way I could test the fuel pressure?
Went to 13, then to 21. Basically we may use a fitting that threads into the pump prompt, with a hose and gauges that have psi and kpa. I don't know if you see this cause I added comments that after I sent them to you YT didn't immediately showed. Next time you want to put some insulation or something that isolates the impact of the vibration of the gauge on the windshield.
I put in a new fast pump cause I was told my fuel pressure was only 4lbs at idol. Now the pressure at idol is running about 15 lbs but when I give it throttle it acts like it is running out of fuel. I bled the system and it started up but still will not run when given throttle. I am at a loss can you please give me ideas to check for?
Biking With Panda it's a new pump. Truck was fine until it ram out of fuel. . Runs and drives but loses fuel pressure under heavy acceleration . Replaced pump . Didn't help and now the pump doesn't even come on when I cycle the ignition.
Good video.!! My Carter pump I installed a new one and it went out in six months. I am going to install a raptor fuel pump from thoroughbred diesel tomorrow morning that should fix the problem. You guys could check my channel out I’ll be posting that video soon so keep an eye out for it as well!
I have the same pump on my 2001 dodge ram 2500 5.9 cummins. I wanted to let you know I'm experiencing some low volume of pressure..I've been driving it like this for 2 days. somehow I got into bad BP diesel feul. moreover, as I'm driving it showing 9psi oppose to when it was at approx 14-19psi. secondly, I have a small clear FF5-16TDL Filter I installed before the fuel goes into the pump from the tank..I have replace it for the third time..what do ya think what might be causing this issue..I'm think the sediments got into my pumps.
@@thebeatuppony6432 thank you so much I guess I have a bad lift pump due to I change my fuel filter and now the truck doesn't start at all and I try to prime but still any diesel on the canister even that I can hear the lift pump the canister still empty after like 20 or more prime's
I have 2003 dodge Cummins pickup. My lift pump failed. I replaced it with a fass pump and filter. The truck ran good for about a week. Now the truck won't accelerate. It will only go about 45 miles per hour top speed over a small Mountain Hill. If I press the accelerated pedal, the truck slows down. I have to press the accelerator gradually to pickup speed and I have to let off the pedal As I climb a hill or the truck slows down almost to a stop. When I pull a loaded Trailer it is even worse. Only 45 mph top speed flat ground and truck will only climb Hill at 20 MPH. I'm thinking my injection pump is bad? Feels like truck runs out of fuel. Truck runs OK for first few minutes, then losses power again. It will cruise down interstate at 70 MPH at part throttle just fine unloaded, but if I press the accelerator down to pass someone , the truck slows down until I let of the accelerator. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.
I hear everybody saying the n tank pumps are junk mine's been converted back in 2002 and I only changed it twice since 2002 and Mine Holds 20 psi at idle in about 15 to 17 at wot and I've never had to change my vp44 pump not one just run a good additive in your fuel.
you forgot to mention what year your video applies to. I have a 2500 24v but it's a 2003 Federal. It is nothing like yours. NO schreader valve and there is no fuel pump like your FASS. I'm so sick of this , that's a different setup how many times do I have to retype 1999 dodge fuel filter replacement every year, but 1999 can't find all I want to do is to find out how to change a flippen fuel filter not on a 2001 not a 2000 A 1999 cummins 2500 dodge , I thought thought I heard 2000 was the same not on the sites I've been on been on this for well over an hour , I can't even find how to disconnect the water in fuel sensor it looks fragile and I don't want to break it but I see nothing on how to remove it, no button no slide the next thing I do it to remove that type of sensor connection, just trying to get out of town , and I can't believe not one video on how they come apart you'll find video and they says discount the water in fuel sensor but they don't show you how , the 1st.time I paid.some high price shop to change the filter it.wss 650 for a cheap fuel pump and oil change, that mechanic didn't remove the canister and I believe he ripped me off , he said its not pumping fuel the canister isn't filling up, he told me to look in the canister and he turned the key on and sure enough it wasn't filling up.
1998.5 though 2002 are all the same trucks with the exception of maybe MAYBEEE a different lift pump location depending on model. Some are in the tank and others are engine mounted right behind the fuel filter canister. As for your problem with not taking the sensor off. ...just lift up on the tab and slide it down and it comes off
