My son watched and made me one. You have turned him into a Knot Enthusiast! He played around with your key ring end and made a second one! He made a loop at the end that was big enough to fit loosely around your wrist. I keep it in my purse for protection. This way I don't damage my ignition switch with it on my key chain! Of course we couldn't resist trying it out! We BOTH had bumps and bruises on our arms that took 4-6 days to go away! ( * u * )

I would put that on a 6 7 foot slack so it would be used 2 handed but you could also use a ball bearing with a spike n use it to throw and to be retracted and caught very decent cuz at any point your hands r still free just dont tug practice tugging back with out impailing ones self

@Max Paine Ever been on the receiving end of 2 feet of chain? This is very similar to that and much more portable. Think of ladies who need self protection. To use a Kubotan requires that you get in close and personal (like a knife). I am training in classic Bujutsu (16 years so far) and know how to use a Kubotan, I’d take the ball bearing any day, just as I’d take a baton over a knife.

As kids we used to make similar things to that , to use as fishing weights on hand lines. Never thought of wrapping them around someones head though. Different times I suppose. Great work.

I don't know when I happened across the celtic slammer design, but I've been obsessed with it for a few years and only recently has the confidence and tools to try my hand at it. Your rendition was the first successful attempt I undertook. But the three pass design didn't really hold the ball bearing all that tightly on my attempt. So I hybridized your design with what was put out by The Weavers of Eternity Paracord. It's because of you two guys I learned the diamond knot and the celtic button knot.

I don't have the patience to make such a beautiful "key chain" so I just used double layered dress socks (one inside the other)from "The Dollar Store". It seems to work just fine. So now I got concealed carry with "key chain" for backup. It's nice to have choices and not always be forced to "go to guns" with every situation!

One thing I believe people need to be aware of if these are used for keychains. Be sure your car key is removable via some type of release. Hanging this much weight from a car's ignition can cause significant damage to the ignition unit, leading to failure.

Me too! I've had 3 ignition switch failures on on Trailblazer EXT! At over $300 for the part plus labor if you don't do it yourself, it was an expensive lesson about being aware of the weight of the key-gob you carry with your ignition switch key!

I didn't have any one inch bearings laying around so I cut a chunk of two by two pine an inch and a half long, so basically it was a cube, I used my router with a chamfer bit and put forty-five degree angles on all corners and made my own pretty circular smasher. I figure it'll be a lot safer to train with too. I also didn't have any proper rope, just some thin braided nylon line I use for string levels and plumb bobs. It was terrible to work with and my first attempt was a total fail. I wound up using a wood rasp to make a groove all around my wooden " ball" and the thin line nests in it quite nicely. This was such a cool little homemade, handmade project I'll definitely make more. Liked and subbed, looking forward to more awesomeness on this channel!

Once again, great tutorial that is very easy to follow for a great result. I just finished my second one. This time I used yellow and orange paracord and a bright orange golf ball, its what my buddy had laying around, and it came out perfect. It's a funny story how this happened. So I knew my buddies kid had just received a dozen orange golf balls for his birthday a week ago but I didn't have any paracord then so I didn't give it a second thought. Then a few days later I just happen to notice some orange and yellow cord in this box of computer cords and a.v. cables, I pulled it out and dontchaknow it was a length of about thirty feet of paracord all tangled up with other cords in this box of random electronics cables. I asked my buddies kid if it was his and he had no idea whose it was, I even had to explain to him what paracord is. Once I untangled it I instantly knew what I'd be making with it. I'm giving it to my buddies teenage son because the orange golf balls were his and it was like pulling teeth to get one from him. I really am just happy with how it came out and its nice to get more practice tying cool knots. I hope the little bugger likes it and maybe his buddies will want one and they all can learn to tie some knots. Who know it might save their lives some day. They knot tying I mean but the Celtic Slammer might too!

Interesting tie, but I believe the chromed ball needs another round because it needs to be covered more than you have it. One good swift whack with that and the ball will come out. Another round will keep it more secure because that last round of para-cord will not stretch so much upon using the tool, that it would allow the ball to escape. A person must look at the Para-cord's elasticity as opposed to slick finish on the ball.

This is meant to be a last resort self defense weapon. I hope and pray no one ever has to actually use it. The slammer can be carried on the way to your car in a dark area. If someone comes at you, simply swing and aim the bearing for their face!!! While hiking a wild animal comes at you. Pull the slammer out and WHACK!!

So I've come back to this design once again, because I love it too much to stop. I still can't make the 3-pass design work, because the 1" ball just sits too loose inside of it, no matter how much you try to tighten it up. 4 passes seems to be minimum for holding it right if it ever gets used.

I'm not confidant it wouldn't cast the ball on impact.. Is there space for another pass? Also try a steel Orin's on each side under the cord, this would cause a lip and a more positive lock. Nice looking "key chain" though👍
@JoshuaRaines
@JoshuaRaines 8 лет назад
Unless your protecting yourself from a tree or concrete, I don't see the bearing slipping out. I stress that a marlin spike should be used to really stretch and tighten the cord. 5 passes of tightening at the least. Once done, the bearing can't even be rotated. A few blows to someone's jaw shouldn't be enough to make the bearing fail. But, I haven't hit many people in the jaw with this. It is a last measure kind of thing. Thanks for watching.

Much more elegant than a classical monkey fist but I prefer the ball to be entrirely hidden. There remark about the car keychain weight is important. As a self defense tool, the speed of the movement gives more energy than the weight of the ball (v squared vs m), so I use a non metallic ball

I never could 'get it', and now that I'm in my 75th year of life (I've had some very bad times; but those are all behind) and now, for the past 26+ years I've been blessed abundantly with family, plenty of leisure time since I retired in the Fall of 1995. I have one Daughter (a Nurse), and two Granddaughters (18 & 12) and they all live with me! A great life I'd say! Take care and I'm truly attempting to do the paracording! Oh I almost forgot. I have four great Nephews (all under 12!), and the 12 year old is a serious contender for becoming an Eagle Scout someday! I'm now about to begin on making each of the four a Survival Bracelet. They're at the perfect age (except maybe for the two year old) for thinking that the best gift ever! Be well and bless you. >

David J. Rose Always felt like the fist had a more secure grip on a round object compared to the Turks head. Just wouldn't trust it on a heaving line. Especially with a steel weight inside. Just imagine "heads up on deck, heads up on pier" and chucking a unsecured steel object at people. Bad times to follow.

David O'D Yeah...I grew up in Norfolk.. The Sailors I talked to rolled 3 or 4 silver dollars in their neckerchief. The flap on their crackerjacks hid the tape they used to keep the coins in place. Good times when the 7th fleet came in!!!😜

👍😍Yours is beautiful. Thank you. 💞 👍😂I’m just gonna add my own bit of humor and share my story....something went horribly wrong with my process because my foot was attached to my neck and I could only use my right hand. I’m gonna keep trying though. ☺️😆😂🤣💞
