In this video I demonstrate how to to make a self defense lanyard out of paracord.
This project is not that hard and the tutorial covers all the steps in quite a bit of detail. Hence, almost anyone with enough patience, time and a bit of cord can get this one done.
You should carry and use this item in accordance with the local laws and sound judgement.
For easier navigation of the video, a few timestamps:
Supplies- 3:09
Pineapple knot (base knot)- 7:36
Pineapple knot (interweave)- 24:27
Transferring the knot onto a core- 41:53
Making the handle- 51:56
Covering knot- 1:03:27
Finishing touches- 1:22:10
Enjoy the tutorial!

amazing video ...and that's good because i needed to repeat it 15 times. i finally completed it. my second project. my first was your canoe pddle wrap. I used it on my 5' 6" walking stick. after mamy tries and restarts, I got it done. you are a very very good teacher, and your videos are just great. Thanks Mark.

My favorite part is when he says self-defense everywhere is so regulated. It’s so true that self-defense is what’s regulated and not the people that use weapons for crime. Regulations only keep honest people from being safe!

Worked for me! Really useful tutorial. Anyone else have difficulty getting their paracord to STAY in the lacing tool? Mine comes out so easily that it's useless. I've tried 2 different brands.

OMGoddess, what an amazing teacher you are!! Even tho I didn't get it right away, having to undo the main pineapple knot 12 times, I crafted this beautiful self defense lanyard!! Thank you so much sharing. You are awesome!!! 😘

It took me about 12 hours in 5 days to make this knot. The tuturial is amazing and very clear, but the knot is so hard to make. I started the pineappleknot 5 times over and the finishing knot 4 times. But the result is very beautiful. I used the poolball #4 and paracords black and purple. The white ends that remain after cutting the loose ends I coloured with a stift in the same colour I used in the knots.

@@Paracordguild In the beginning of the tuturial I see the blue example. Close to the handle of this example I see a blue cord going over 4 stringth. At the lanyard that I made myself I see the same thing. I thought I had made a mistake, but obviously it is not. Correct?

I like the idea of using a tennis ball, my dogs would love to play with this! I'm thinking more dog toy than self defense.

Thanks for great tutorial. I always wonder how you remember and understand all these leads-bights and under-overs. Perhaps you will make a video explaining the principles of building Turkisheads, pineapple and gaucho knots. I think it will be interesting to many people.

Mikhail Escov some states allow self defence stuffs
@threedking
@threedking 6 лет назад
Dennis Flanders, in US yes. There allow walking on streets even with gun. I'm from Ukraine. Here turnover and carrying of cold steel are prohibited. Stuff is considered a cold steel if the flexible coupler is able to withstand a tensile load of more than 10 kg. In this product 4 strands of paracord, 250 kg each ...

Very nice BUT... Be very careful where you carry one of these. In some US states they are referred to as an 'underslung' weapon and you could be arrested for having one in your possession.

Great tutorial, rather than take the time to add slack back into the knot, would it not be easier to start with a slightly larger mandrel then switch to a smaller mandrel? Donald
@Paracordguild
@Paracordguild 6 лет назад
Donald, that is a good idea that can save you some time, as long as you get 2 properly sized mandrels for the job, as you have mentioned. It is a great way of optimizing your production process. Mark

Is it possible to change the inner size ball, I'd like to use a standard Snooker ball which has a diameter of 5.25 cm? Perhaps by making a 8 bight turk's head????

Hey! Honestly, I'd try the same knot first, it may just fit. Other than that a 10L9B would be my next guess. You can also try the 9L8B, maybe it will work. Mark

......as usual, my BRAND NEW paracord is like working with wet spaghetti. It does not will not cannot stay in place, so my futile attempt to follow your much appreciated tutorial, NEVER looks the same, soon after the 3rd "pass" and the next sequence is all but impossible for me to find. It's depressing to be OLD, and a dumbass too!

I have to laugh at these anti-self defense laws. The people that make them have armed bodyguards . And they live in gated communities , with all kinds of security systems.
@Paracordguild

I totally agree. Any man/woman/child has the right to defend himself. Sadly, laws in many cases protect the aggressors, not the victims. Mark

@@Paracordguild I will have to test the tennis ball w/sand. I like the idea because in court it might make it harder for the prosecution to argue "intent" or premeditation should the perpetrator be killed. Also there should be less blood at the scene possibly increasing the chances of no charges at all.

@@Paracordguild unfortunately the first ones to use these are punks who like to rob people, or skinheads out to hunt down immigrants and people of color. Even if used as defense, once must know how to use this. Your average man, woman, or child is not going to have any clue, and can injure themselves. I think it’s a really cool weapon though, and it looks great.
