Same video as before, just figured out how to flip the mirrored video.
I just finished installing and timing the diesel fuel pump on my Td 42. So how do you do it, I just run the intro, and we'll get into it, just realize, I haven't got the front pulley on which is got the timing marks for TDC. So I'm sure it's pretty close. But just to be absolutely sure, I'll put that pulley on, and then I've got my timing marks and then I'll be able to do me a fuel pump. So I'll just get onto that now. So putting that front pulley on was pretty straightforward. And then there's like this thing here. And he just basically putting it onto the key way, so you can't get that wrong. And then that's got a key way as well. keyway that goes in, tighten that up in your way. So with timing the fuel pump, you need to be on your compression stroke, top dead center on number one. And the way you do that is this to max on the pulley with looking at looking at the motor from the front end on, you've got a right hand mark and the left hand mark, you want the left hand Mark lined up with the mark on the housing of the ancient. They said it was a top dead center. When they did it, I just put the poliana notices a bit out. So you can just when there's no compression with a headline, you can just turn it by hand obviously. So I'll do that.So I'll do that. There it is. So those two marks perfectly lined up there. And then what I'll do is when I put the head on, and I put the valves, valves and all the top end as a symbol, I'll just check that there's no movement in the valve parents, because obviously on a compression stroke would be fully loaded. So I'll just check those two and make sure that they are fully closed, and then all know that that is indeed times to the compression stroke TDC of number one. So that's your timing side of things. When you get your injection pump back, they will give you the timing specs that you're timing the pump to So in this instance, at TDC. And obviously number one, we all know that it's point seven. So basically, what you're doing this, these three here, go on to those three there. So with the timing, these are fixed, but on your pump where it goes as slotted. So essentially all that's happening is when it goes on. So if you loosen than that, yeah, you can actually turn the fuel pump in those slots. So at some point, in that turn, there's going to be the correct timing of the pump.
And so all we've got to do is somehow measure that So and that's your timing. So So have a look at that. Just another tip, just grab a snap lock bag. So this is bits related to my fuel pump. I've got my glow plugs in here as well. So it's just one way of just knowing exactly where bits and bobs go.So if you loosen the nuts, yeah, you can actually turn the fuel in those slots. So at some point in that turn There's going to be the correct timing of them.So once you've got the The pump or positioned you've got the bolts. Sorry you've got the pump on the locating legs, the studs, I mean and And it's loose but it's in place. The next thing is to put your pulley on And with up If you exam In the face You'll find Mind are we here? Yeah So This On the face there to zero Don't just sit here. To be whosits Yes, right, right there. Then on this pulley in here this one There's a z there. So you want the z to lay And between the 2 zs on the other foot, we And then the way You know you're obviously Got a key In a key way So you're gonna have to rotate the pump so that everything marries up and the two threes it so when you bring brings pulling to come aroundI just took the phone off the tripod. And there it is there. So yeah, you three's it. So see that landing right in the middle of those two them. So timing wise that's pretty much it. You've got Yeah, left hand mark on here to the mark on the on the actual engine casing. And then you got your 203 seeds all lined up there. And obviously it's not on the keyway yet. And then it'll be on the keyway and everything will have lined up nicely. So I'll just go on and store all that and get it done. And then we'll come back The first time I ever did this and then you finally got it all talked up. Remember this is 70 Newton meters. This is not here. As the pulley goes back, it looks like it loses alignment But it doesn't really because these These gays have tapered So if you just follow Have a Zed back The truth The two students In the middle of It's easy Either look at that when You're You know, you've got the Jeanette, but most of the time Unless it's been with the engine and the engine Bay And likely Most people would be refitting Fuel pump With the engines Fill in the engine And so you're looking down on An angle and everything that it looks skew with that doesn't line up but all you do is you just put a little bit of white out on that Zed puts To white out on where to landlight on this So when you bring it in like that, so I'll just pause it so you can see what it looks like and
