I read the smoking walnut oil is pretty low (320f), not sure if walnut is healthy after roasting (oil my burn or changed).

Thanks for this video. My late wife(a tick bite and an incompetent doctor killed her) was an RN and loved to cook. She had over 1000 cook books. I'm learning to cook. Today is zucchini bread. Somehow the butternut squash all came up as zucchini so, I'm overwhelmed. with zukes. Good Luck, Rick

I am so sorry about your wife. That is very sad. I am also and RN with 100's of cookbooks. I don't think I have 1000 but I have more than anyone I know. If you have lots of zucchini you may like this video. I think it is delicious. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QMaATTibhWM.html

Cooking Lessons for Dad: since the natural oil of the walnut is still contained within the thin skin over the nut, how would I make salted & roasted walnuts? Do I spray them with a non-stick cooking spray like Baker's Joy, Pam, or an adamizer w/olive oil just prior to baking and then salt them or how? Thanks for any tip, Karen.
@CookingLessonsforDad
@CookingLessonsforDad 4 года назад
I have not made salted roasted walnuts yet. If I were going to, I would try tossing the walnuts with a little olive or grape seed oil. Next stir in the salt until the walnuts are evenly coated. After that I would roast them. I don't know if the cooking time will be different with the oil. It may be faster so check them early. I bet they will be delicious! Let me know how they turn out.

@@CookingLessonsforDad Finally tried it. Used 2-2 -1/2 tbls. coconut oil in a large bowl a wooden spoon, stirred them around for about 30 seconds, added about 1 tsp. Himalayan pink salt, roasted @350 for 11 minutes, just like you, wasn't quite done enough by site...put back for another 2 minutes...just about as good as it gets. They'll just about make you wanna slap yo' mama!

@@CookingLessonsforDad Already ate the 2 pounds between me (mostly) and my wife within a 6 day period, worse than salted & roasted peanuts or movie popcorn...you can't stop once you start eating them. They are not as good as cashews but if you have a hankering for walnuts; then, try roasting and salting a 2 pound bag of these critters.

@CookingLessonsforDad
@CookingLessonsforDad 5 лет назад
That is too bad. You may want to check your oven temperature to see if it is accurate. Also smaller nuts will cook faster. When cooking nuts it is a good idea to check on them a few minutes early just in case they brown quicker than expected.
