For the people who are having an issue with loading save files for player 2. Do know you cannot load states when multiplayer is active. You need to use savegames instead. To create a save just load up your game, select File>Save Games>Export Gameshark Save. Once saved, Launch your ROM in the player 2 window. Here you'll want to go to File>Save Games>Load alternate save game. Now the save file should appear in the player 2 window
saved BOTH games after trading but fire red reads the previousa save. I loaded a temporary save because it was starting a new game in pfire red which is in ther second player mgba. However although I saved both games now in firee red it reads the previous saave so I lostr a charmeleon.....
@@asapas8 make sure you create another new save file mentioned in the original comment for your save on the player 2 emulator. I know its a hastle, but its so far the only way i know it works. Let me know if this helped😁
YESSSSS!!!!!!!!! NOW I FINALLY KNOW HOW TO TRADE WITH MYSELF IN GEN 3 ON MGBA!!!!! IVE BEEN WONDERING HOW TO DO THIS FOR SOO LONG TYSM!!!!!!!!!🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Great vid Used it to evolve pokemon and dupe a few held items. and for some reason it wasn't working all the time, but i figured out as long as i closed it down and started up both windows to the load screen and did like a fresh start for both instances of the game it always worked that way.
For me when both saved it was only: "Please Wait ... ... B Button: Cancel" and nothing else happened. This happened to me when I loaded "Pokemon - Fire Red.GBA" into Player 1 and "Pokémon FireRed.gba" into Player 2. Both are the same game but from a different folder (even same file, not different sources, I just copied and renamed one of them after copying.) but I think the problem was they were named different. For me the working solution was: Load the same ROM from the same folder. But if you use different ROMs, load them from the same folder, I think that will solve it. (I used "Load alternative save file" for Player 1 because I wanted to trade into my Retroarch save from an mGBA save (Player 2) [So I was trading starter pokémons into my Retroarch save] so be careful if you also want to trade from FireRed to FireRed because if you created both your save files in Player 1 mGBA slot, you can overwrite it accidentally, this maybe can be avoided to rename one of .sa1 savefile to .sa2, but I didn't test it, so again, be careful)
I've been working on removing FireRed and LeafGreen's pre-National Pokédex trade restrictions with the Hoenn games, so knowing how to trade between two emulators will be very helpful for testing that.
Great vid man. Time to get that gengar and alakazam hehee boiiii Edit: I thought it wasn't working when i tried it out but it seemed that i needed to split the windows first before opening the rom. Worked absolutely like a charm after that. Thank you for the helpful vid and the comments section. It made me get my gengar and alakazam properly.
If anyone is trying this on new multiplayer und it won't work, try resetting mgba(either closing all mgba except one or closing all running mgba) and do the video again. My mgba's version is 0.9.3 btw.
I did the same steps on emerald and sapphire but it doesn't work so i tried using 2 different emerald rom but both still didnt connect, am i doing something wrong or?
Was trying to trade some stuff over using this method, and a Pelliper turned into a bad egg? I reloaded into a previous file, but I think it might have something to do with the FPS not matching during the trades, and glitching it out? Do you know anything of this? The Pellpier wasn't a hacked mon, it was caught randomly and I wanted to transfer over an Aerial Ace.
@wert1997 i have done same thing but the first rom i load work properly but when i load second rom using multiplayer window it starts from the starting {starting of game}
So with FireRed it worked for me the first time I traded which is how I got Squirtle but when I tried to restart the game to get Bulbasaur and try it again it hasn’t been working. On both screens it just says “please wait…” like it doesn’t recognize the “cable” is plugged in.
Let me know when you find out. I tried the other suggestion in the comments saying that we have to change the file extensions from the 2th game from sav. To sa2. Butt that just erased my file. So let me know brother!
@@tonyxsmax4877 Found it out. You have to have both saves in the same folder with the game files. If one of them is not registering the saved game, then on that same emulator window go to *File > Save games > Load alternate save game*, and click on the save file of the game you want to open in that window. It will then work.
So only need 2 pokemon?? I used the cheat to get the other 2 starters I started with squirtle but also want now 47 hours into the game charmander and bulbasour I wouldn't have to get the national pokedex at all?
It's not working. They're not linking with each other. It's not detecting the "connection". Also annoying that there's no way to set the keyboard for different players. Not to mention the game pauses when inactive. Even if it links I wouldn't be able to use the berry blender to make Pokeblocks.
when i open a new multiplayer session it aways starts pokemon from the start and doesn't register the save on the second game. i cant even seem to load a save on the second screen. any idea whats causing this? thanks
The player 2 save file extension need to be changed from .sav to .sa2. Example: If your first window (Player 1) is FireRed, your save file need to be FireRed.sav If your second window (Player 2) is GreenLeaf, your save file need to be GreenLeaf.sa2 Your rom and the .sav or .sa2 need to be in the same folder, otherwise will not work
Except when I try to do this, the Player 2 window always start a blank game, and even if I play till haviong 2 pokemon and going to the center, it does not load in the trading room, instead puts me on infinite waiting.
Does this also work on Ruby and Sapphire? I’ll try it and see if it works. I’ll update the comment with the results. Edit: Yes, it does work. It’s exactly the same on Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald as it is in Fire Red and Leaf Green. As a side note though, I’m on doing it because I want my Machoke and my Graveler to evolve, and these trade evolutions are something I don’t really like about these games. It’s almost as if it only exists to make an extra profit off of the Gameboy Advance console link.
I open both Fire Red and leaf green in the multiplayer thing and I get to the trade area, after I save it just says please wait, it doesn't connect, what should I do?
Edit: Ignore my first comment if ever you read it. Try resetting your mgba(either closing all except one or closing all running mgba) and do the video again. It should work by doing this. Note: My mgba's version is 0.9.3 btw.
It does not work for me. I am getting communications error. I have followed everything, even found the exact same version that is in this video. That version is doing the exact same thing. Annoying the heck out of me. I have reset the emulator a dozen times, I even closed it and reopened it, nothing is working.
saved BOTH games after trading but fire red reads the previousa save. I loaded a temporary save because it was starting a new game in pfire red which is in ther second player mgba. However although I saved both games now in firee red it reads the previous saave so I lostr a charmeleon.....
I just did my trade between leaf green and fire red. i didnt fully understand what you did wrong. but all i can tell you is that, just trade a charmander back to your main account. The traded pokemon will level up way faster and you'll get your charmeleon in no time.
@@astrojade4802 I don't know, I used a temporary save file, and then the game loaded the previous file (before I made the trade), so Charmeleon got lost. What I did was to create a gameshark saved game and then load alternate save file. Then it saved it normally
I'm trying to do this but it won't load the saved game in both, only in one? So I open either FR or LG in player 1 and then for player 2 it keeps going to new game as if the game isn't saved?
For anyone who needs a solution to this problem, I found it: In the window where the save is failing to load, go to File > Save games > Load alternate save game, then click on the save file of the game you want to open in that window. It will then worked. I evolved my Alakazam that way!
Pretty lame, i dont even get past the first step; load up the save file. When i load up LeafGreen, the save file is present and i press continue. I press "New multiplayer window", boot up FireRed and no save file is present... (also vice versa) I can save on both, so i guess, when i have to trade, i open up one, do the starter zone untill im in pewter town and then link up both plays, do the trade. I just dont get it why these seperate games wont load their save files simultaneous, they're different games and their save files never overwrite the other. But only 1 can boot up. (same problem occurs with VBA-M) P.S. maybe its windows cuz the save files seem to also be present in an %AppData% folder. So maybe i need 2 computers for this
Example: If your first window (Player 1) is FireRed, your save file need to be FireRed.sav If your second window (Player 2) is GreenLeaf, your save file need to be GreenLeaf.sa2 Your rom and the .sav or .sa2 need to be in the same folder, otherwise will not work
Although fire red/ leaf green allow you to catch hoenn Pokémon post game it is not a gen 3 game. Therefore allowing you to complete the Pokédex post game so you still have a reason to play after defeating elite 4 and becoming champion.
I know in the post game you can get the Ruby and Sapphire in the Sevii Isles to allow Pokemon from those games, but I don't think there's a way from Emerald to FRLG directly. Meaning you have to trade around about to get an Emerald Pokemon into FRLG
Example: If your first window (Player 1) is FireRed, your save file need to be FireRed.sav If your second window (Player 2) is GreenLeaf, your save file need to be GreenLeaf.sa2 Your rom and the .sav or .sa2 need to be in the same folder, otherwise will not work
you need to split the windows first before opening the rom. If you can see the load states options in the first window. it means you're doing it wrong.
mGBA so trash it always keep creating more save files instead of modifying the current ones, I only play on this bullshit emulator because it has the og GBA color shader
