My plant is losing leaves. I started using the supplement product you guys have. I have repotted the plant.... new leaves look and nice old leaves 🍃 dropping. I have repotted in a growing bag that is in a container. I also repotted using your soil. I am at a lost as to what yo do. I have loss a lot of leaves already and want to promote growth. My original problem was over watering but based on the your content that I viewed it may now be under watering. I use a soil meter to gauge the moisture but I am thinking I struggle with how much water do I use I water the plant. I usually water the plant once a week on Sunday.

Hi, a couple weeks after I brought my plant home the leaves started falling off like crazy. It had brown spots on it. It's winter so I kept it by the window with lots of sunlight and I don't think I over watered. But I am not sure when I watered the plants it drained well. Then I thought the sunlight was the issue and I moved the plant but I am not sure now because I had a few more leaves falling down even after. Today I noticed there was a small stem growing at the bottom of two of the stems. Initially I thought it was good thing but when I googled I saw that might be because the plant is stressed. And now I am here watching your videos. But I don't know what to do. I am not very good with plants but I really want my fiddle leaf fig to grow

Great to hear your plant is doing ok! If your soil and pot are draining properly, you won't have to worry about root rot. Make sure to water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the water drains well out the bottom. Also, you will want to make sure the plant is sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window. Happy Growing!

I bought my FLF 2 weeks ago. It came in a large 15” diameter planter and has three stalks in it. Because my West-facing window has low light( plant is 7 feet from window) I haven’t watered it. Today I noticed brown spots on many of the leaves not just the lower ones. The top 2” of soul is barely moist. What should I do? Take the plant out and inspect roots? I’m afraid to shock the plant further ? Is there a way to control root rot without re-potting? Thanks.
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 года назад
Definitely needs to be right up against the window. 7 feet away is not enough light and your plant unfortunately will develop brown spots and slowly die. Move it as close to the window as possible and wait to water when the top inches of soil are dry.

Hi I am not sure if this is a problem but wanted to get your advice. I am using your root supplement and fertilizer - which as I mentioned to you previously saved my plant. It has beautiful new leaves. I have the plant in a terracotta non glazed pot and am seeing white buildup around the bottom. Is this perhaps minerals from the water? Will it somehow seep into the inside of the pot and cause damage to the plant? I was going to take the pot and scrub off the buildup but first wanted to make sure it will not cause any problems to the plant. thank you again!!

Hi Maria, thank you for your question and I love to hear our root supplement and fiddle leaf fig plant food is helping your plant to thrive! Buildup on terra cotta pots is completely normal. I bought my fig a month ago and it looked like it was in perfect condition. A couple of the leaves started dropping off straight away, so I just thought it was adjusting to its new environment. Since then, it's been losing a around 5 leaves a week. They're turning brown and crispy. The soil seems completely dry, I've only watered it about once a week but it definitely doesn't seem to be soggy or anything. I'm worried about taking it out of the pot as it's winter and I don't want to traumatised her! Basically, I'm not entirely sure that the issue definitely is root rot even though it sounds like it according to this video!

It's normal for plants to drop leaves after being moved from the nursery into a home. The best thing to do is make sure it is sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window. If direct sunlight is hitting the leaves, use a sheer curtain. Direct sun light can burn leaves in a matter of minutes if the plant is not acclimated. A sheer curtain turns that direct light into indirect light. Water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the soil is soaked and draining well out the bottom drainage holes. I have lost most of my FLF leaves. My plant had produced a new leaf on the top but it shriveled and fell today. I was so sad when I saw this as I felt she was on the road to recovery. Do you think it was caused from over fertilization? I did fertilize for the first tim 2 weeks ago.
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 года назад
Hi Nola, it sounds like it may be a watering issue. I would recommend assessing how much and how often you are watering and ensuring the soil is not hydrophobic. Make sure the water is getting to the root system and not going to the outside of the soil and draining straight down and out. Aerating the soil can help with this issue so your plant is getting the water it needs to support your leaves and any new growth. Hope this information is helpful!

@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 года назад
Great question! The spot that it is in, is any direct sunlight hitting the leaves? If so, it might be best to slowly acclimate it to direct sun as the leaves can burn. Water your plant and ensure the water is properly draining out the multiple draining holes and wait to water again when the top inches of soil are dry. Good luck!

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant What about using a filtered Water or even reverse osmosis water? That is what I use in order to prevent unwanted minerals/toxins to be in the plant soil and plants and change the PH too much. I balance the PH after watering with a time release fertilizer for fiddle fig tree and your root stimulation liquid. Also Since I live in Canada, I have been leaving my plants lights/grow lamps on all day From the time I Get up to the time I go to bed. sometimes I even leave it on all night long too. Otherwise even being next to a window, It seems not to be enough light especially during the winter months. Upon bringing these trees home, I ldid loose a few leaves at the bottom of each of my fiddle fig trees (3 trees); but since then (3-4 months ago now), they have been doing ok. I am also using a humidifier daily. What are your thoughts on all this Claire? I may repot in the spring; but if they are doing ok, It might be better to wait. I’m not sure if I have root rot. There are some fresh leaves that still grow - but there are some brown spots on the existing leaves. The soil is definitely drenched (I can admit I may have been watering it too much) so I want to just leave it alone and let the soil dry out naturally before I shock the plant but repotting it. Is that okay? It also gets good indirect light - but do I need to put it directly against the window?

Great question! Are the brown spots dry and crispy or really dark brown/black? Root rot would be really dark / brown spreading spots. In that case you would want to ensure your soil and pot drains well and your plant is getting enough light. I would leave it be and not repot unless your soil and/or pot are not draining properly. I need hep!! My plant is dropping leaves and getting brown spots. The weird thing is that is has three small leaves growing at the top and other three ones lower in the plant trunk. I’m scared repotting it will damage my plant. I repotted it at the beginning of July because of the same issue :( and I don’t know what to do. I learned a lot with your video but I’m afraid it might be too late. It also had this fungal infestation at the top of the soil a few weeks ago before it started getting brown. I took that out and used hydrogen peroxide that I saw online is good to do when you sii that. HELP PLEASE!!

@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 года назад
Best recommendation is to get back to the basics. Is your plant living right up against and next to your brightest window? Make sure it is getting enough light. Even just 1 foot pulled back away from a window is not enough light for these plants to thrive. Ensure the soil and pot it is in drains properly out of the bottom and when watering, make sure to water when top inches of soil are dry. Hi, I just repotted my FLF and now she’s having brown leafs and dropping like crazy, is just a shock or what? I really don’t think is root rot , I also change the pot to terracota pot. Looks really sad , I tried everything “best” and now she’s sad. Maybe doesn’t like neem oil ?? I used to “control” my gnats pets (she doesn’t have it though but I wanted to make sure) help please !

It may be shock from the repot but is your plant getting enough light? Is it sitting directly in front of / up against your brightest window? Even when these plants are pulled back from a window one foot or more, that is not enough light for the plant to thrive. I suggest joining our community online and posting a few photos for feedback and support. facebook.com/groups/fiddleleaffigplantresource

The brown spots on my leaves look small and dry -and cause tiny holes. No dropping leaves. No overall sunburn. What does that mean? Also I’ve had it for 1.5 months and it hasn’t sent out a new leaf as yet. It’s near a south facing window and gets only early morning sun for about an hour. (Location: Ontario Canada) Please help.

If you are seeing small dry-ish brown spots with holes in them, it is possible that they are just trauma spots from when you originally got the plant and moved it. You can check out our photo guide to brown spots here: fiddleleaffigplant.com/guide-to-fiddle-leaf-fig-brown-spots/ and scroll down to the section titled "Fiddle Leaf Fig Brown Spots From Physical Trauma". Do your brown spots look like that? If so, they are harmless and there is nothing much that can be done to treat them. If they are really bothering you, you could always prune off the most damaged leaves, but I would wait another month or so to do that, since this is a fairly new plant. And remember, never remove more than 10% of your plant's leaves at once, or you could risk sending it into shock. As for new growth, you haven't had the plant that long, so give it some time. Changing locations can be a big deal to a fiddle leaf fig, so it will need to time to acclimate and adjust to its new home.

I just purchased my fiddle leaf fig and potted it about 7 days ago. I always use fair amount of gravel in bottom of plant. I also mix potting soil with perlite. I now have this brown spot problem. Thinking I don’t need to repot it at this time. What’s another option since I just potted this beauty.
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 3 года назад
I would recommend removing the gravel. Even small stones can cause the water to pool around the gaps between the stones and it does not drain out the bottom properly. The roots are attracted to that standing water and begin to become too water logged. That is when root infections start. Remove the gravel and repot with your fast draining mix and ensure the pot has multiple holes on the bottom. Good luck!

If you put rocks at the bottom does it raise the water table at all?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 года назад
Thank you for your question. I do not recommend placing rocks at the bottom. Water pools around the rocks and inhibits the water from draining properly. The roots are then attracted to that standing, pooled water. Best to use a fast draining soil with a pot that has multiple holes at the bottom. If you would like another medium to help pot your plant, you can check out our Smart Gravel which is made from 100% recycled plastic from our beaches. amzn.to/3xVFnd6

Miracle Gro can be known to hold onto moisture. I recommend mixing in a little cactus mix. Keep an eye on your plant and if the soil is still not drying properly, you may need to consider switching the soil or ensuring the holes on the bottom are adequate to help drain the water properly.

@@evafriesen6561 I wouldn't recommend rocks on the bottom as they actually pool water around them and the roots are attracted to the standing water which in turn increases a root infection risk. There are 3 ways to grow new branches. Pruning, Pinching, and Notching. Pruning is very successful and pinching you would do on a smaller, younger plant. Notching can help fill in bare spots lower down on your tree, but the success rate is around 50%. Here is a great video about these three options! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KsdtmrZdv8o.html

My place is dark, and only has 2 east facing windows. The first pot of flf I bought last year came with a bunch of small plants. Much to my surprise, they're still doing ok, and have doubled in height and leaf size. I bought 2 large ones that took off growing like crazy, then started dropping leaves. I gave up on one of them, and threw it away. I can't seem to find any good pots with adequate drainage. This plant is spoiled, and I leave it under a floor lamp that stays on 24/7. If I turn off that lamp, the plant drops a leaf or two within a couple of days. My place undergoes extreme temperature changes, because I can't stand it when it gets too warm in here. The a/c makes it drop leaves just as much as the heat does. I can't win!

That definitely sounds like a tough situation. It's difficult when there are certain aspects of your environment that aren't hospitable to a FLF, and there is nothing you can do to change them, such as low natural sunlight. I would recommend investing in some grow lights if you haven't already: fiddleleaffigplant.com/growlights Try keeping your FLF far away from vents and drafts if possible.
