How To Turn Off Auto Stop In Chevy Malibu 2016-2019 

I believe that the auto stop eventually will start causing misfires in the cylinders. This feature is added to make them more money. I don't see how it will save on gas I really don't.

I tried worked but don’t want the check engine light on so I plugged it back in. Chevrolet could have saved some money and kept this stupid feature for them selves. Along with the air pump. Much rather have had a spare tire even if it was a doughnut.

This works on a 2015 Malibu LS EcoBoost and I do not get a check engine best video ever seen been dealing with this s*** 8 yrs

This does work to shut off the auto stop, but also disables remote start if your malibu has it my fianes does.

This has to be one of the most FU things ever invented. Can't be good on a starter, battery replacement is 250 to 300 dollars plus you need the auxiliary battery in the trunk. GM knows how to keep you coming back to the service department.

I have an 2018 Malibu LT and I do admit it does annoy me at times when I’m in bumper to bumper type traffic which I’m usually in everyday so having my car turning off and starting up like that every few seconds after making small movements can get annoying but overall I kinda like it.

That’s great that you showed how to unhook it and where to unhook it and all that stuff but you just showing it unhooked. How did you get it unplugged? Magic?

I have disconnected the hood latch connector which disabled the auto start/stop feature but now I am staring at a service engine light and airbag service light. It has been 1 1/2 years since I have disconnected the hood latch connector and had no problems with the vehicle staying on all the time. The only problem is now I have to stare at the engine service light and airbag service light on. We always wear our seatbelts so we are not worried about the airbag light on. I guess you take the risk at your own if you disable the auto start/stop. It is very annoying that Chevy does not provide a way to disable it if you don't want it. I found a web chat that you can use a plug in to your DLC that disables the auto/start system. I have not used this product but consider buying it in the future. Tired of staring at the engine light and airbag light on. I have a 2015 Chevy Malibu. Not buying a Malibu again!! Here's the link to the start/stop disable product. I have truly grown to hate this feature. I don’t know if I have a battery issue now but it not only kills the motor but the electrical goes dead to. So basically sitting at the light when it turns green and you have a dead car. Yes it restarts but it takes a few seconds sometimes. I’m just dreading that time where it simply won’t restart.

What are the side effects of disabling this feature? I immediately got email from onstar to check my battery engine and transmission once I disabled mine

i put a double throw timer relay to the hood switch so that when you started the car it would fake the computer that the hood was open then 10 sec later the relay closed and the hood would look like it was closed so the car would not go into auto stop and no warning lights.

Or you can put car in L mode and select 6. It shifts through all gears and won't auto stop.

I tried this on my 2018 Equinox and it worked, however, the Check Engine light did come on (after a while) and it bothered me. I bought a “jumper” wire on Amazon for $14.92 and proceeded to install it. But first, I wanted to make the Check Engine light go out. I hooked-up my OBDII code reader (hoping to clear the codes) but it must be outdated for this car bc it didn’t work right. I then tried the old method for getting the ECM to reset itself to factory specs by disconnecting the NEG battery terminal for 10-minutes. At the same time, I reconnected the original wiring (without the jumper) hooked the NEG terminal up and started the car. The Check Engine light was OUT. I was going to get it back to normal (shutting off at stops) THEN install the jumper cable to eliminate that function and still prevent the Check Engine light from coming on. I set about test driving the car in a manner I’ve read for allowing the ECM to reset itself (but here’s what I did wrong) When I put the car in gear, I dropped it into L (low) out of force-of-habit and clicked the + button 5 times to put the car in LOW 6. I pulled out and immediately realized I had wanted to start out in D (drive) so before it shifted, I pushed the gear stick up to D. Guess what? The car doesn’t shut off at stops AND the hood wire is connected and there’s no jumper in the line. I decided to run the car for a while to see if it begins to shut off again.

My Malibu cut off and wouldn’t cut back on when it did the automatic stop. I am unsure if it’s the battery or not though. But, that seems to be the only time I have to get a jump is when it automatically cuts off.

That HAS to throw a code eventually. I like the shift to L idea or maybe even just push the button?

Yall do know they sell a harness adapter you add to it and it bypasses it! NO CHECK ENGINE hood notification works still.

IMO PLEASE DON'T DO THIS. If you do the check engine light is going to eventually come on and give you a code saying that there is a problem with the hood latch. You definitely won't pass an emissions test like that by the way. I understand what this guy is trying to do but he's not explaining the problems that will happen afterwards.

Check engine light turns on anyways whether it’s on or off. My auto stop is still connected & my engine light keeps turning on. Maybe it’ll do the opposite if I try this technique.

I have a Chevy Malibu 2017 and if you car keep stop or cutting off at auto stop it means it’s letting you know you battery or transmission is finna get ready and go out and you need a battery or transmission for me it was my battery( Auto Stop -is just to let you let know something is finna get ready to go out on your car)
