I paid over $300 for this printer and there's 0 chance I'd pay for another HP printer and I'm shutting off this update permanently. This is ridiculous and should be illegal, it's like telling you you must purchase a certain brand of ham to go on your sandwich. They did this to themselves and many customers will just stop buying from them.
Likewise. I've just come to turn off the firmware update and that feature has been locked, so I can't alter the settings. There needs to be an uproar. 😡
This constant battle with INK is exhausting. It would be like my home vaccuum cleaner telling me that I must buy THEIR dirt collection bags with each new bag costing $300 or more. The bags would now have chips that tell them when you just dumped the dirt and tried to resue it. If you use an after-market bag, your vaccum cleaner will simply stop working. Refilling a cartridge is my business, not HP's.
Thanks for the information. The cartridge randomly stopped working right before I needed to print off a presentation. Caused me a load of trouble. I'll never buy HP again!
I've got news for you. While this is a great tip, the issue is pretty much industry wide at this point, so as the saying goes "don't hate the player, hate the game"
My printer gives me a message on the Printer Update Options: "Feature Locked This feature has been locked by the person who set up the printer." Is there a way around this?
I will never buy an HP printer again after a die hard fan of HP for 15 years. Bought one 4132e last month and I found that I am not the real owner even after paying for printer rather HP controls the printer. I can't even print a page without involving HP. Returned it the next day. Good buy HP.

I vow to never buy another Hewlett Packard printer at this time because of the way they're holding customers hostage with the printer ink, signed CB, just bought this one a year ago. Once it goes out I'm out.
Don't bother. Most of the video explains the concepts of firmware updates and why you should disable them which is stuff you probably already know before you look up the video. The few seconds where it actual does explain how to do it were completely wrong for my HP printer, starting with the "swipe up" which is not an option.
Pfft! I am a graphics illustrator, not a techno-wizard. While it seems you don't care about the WHAT and the WHY of these fixes, there are many of us out here that do. Personally, I am pretty sick of these exploitation games that technology and the tech giants play on all of us (including YOU). A whole lot of wasted time and money trying to figure out WHY my god damned printer doesn't work. Why don't geniuses like you do something about it? You sure have the attitude but apparently ...NONE of the answers!

I suspect...that even if you turn off your Firmware Software today...any PREVIOUS updates might've disabled your existing compatible cartridges from working. Personally, I'd love to see a boycott of all HP printers and the others until the shenanigans with ink is resolved.
If you still have the printer then see the post above where you can downgrade the firmware and fix that printer. Make sure to turn off the updates so HP don't get to kill it again...

Doesn't help if the updates have already been made. I bought LD cartridges because the website said their cartridges have the new chip & will work. Well, they don't.

Help! After going into Printer Maintenance, I click Update Printer menu and Printer Options. It's set to "Auto" byt when click on it to change it there is no option to do so?! And it reads "This feature has been locked by the person who set up the printer." ???? What do I do?
Hi Sabrina, we found these instructions from a printer owner that had a similar issue, hopefully this works for you! 1. From the home screen, press the unlit “Return” icon three times very quickly. The display screen will change to show “Support Menu” 2. Press “Support Menu” 3. Use the up / down arrows to select “Reset Menu” & press “OK”. 4. You can select either of two choices: “Partial Reset” or “Semi-Full Reset” - use this one to clear the admin lock and return the printer to its out-of-box settings. Selecting this will turn the printer off, so you’ll need to turn it on again.
What if i have a chrome book how do i get it corrected to print. It was printing after i changed the ink cartridges, and then it said a new firmware is needed. But i can't because now it says not for chrom

We're sorry, but this video is only for disabling any future firmware updates. This prevents sudden and unexpected updates that may cause some of the cartridges to stop working. If you're using a third-party, we would suggest contacting the seller to request a replacement with updated chips.
RJ Moreno, if you don't want a printer to update the printer's firmware, then it is best to NEVER connect that printer to the internet using Ethernet or wifi. To print from your computer use only a USB cable attached to the printer. If you MUST have a wireless connection to the printer, then setup a second wifi router in your home that does NOT connect to the internet, and only acts as a LAN connection bridge between devices.

LD Products suck! I received 2 sets of cartridges for my HP printer. both sets were faulty due to an unprogrammed chip to match my printer. Now you SOB's wont return my money!

This is unbelievable. After e few years of this printer HP decided I can no longer use the cartridges of my choice, on the printer I own. I will never ever buy an HP product again. I will send my friends and family this information, including my workplaces that HP printers are banned.
This is exactly why I hate RU-vid instruction videos. Its called "How to Turn Off HP Firmware Updates" Thats what I want to do. I don't need or want all chat about why I might want to do that, I already decided, thats why I am watching the video, Numpty. That waffle was over half your video! I skipped past all that drivel and in the end it doesnt actually show you a video of him pressing the buttons, so it doesn't really answer the question "How to Turn Off HP Firmware Updates" just another far to long waffling youtube video!!! I will stick to the written instructions. They are stright to the point.
@@Ldproducts How do you stop the printer trying to update when it has already updated it. it then prevents you printing until you OK it, but then tries again later.HP Technicians have been unable to help.
