This video is a quick tutorial for you guys. If you want to know how to type on a circle or curve circle text around in Adobe Illustrator, no need to look further as this video has all you need.
You will be learning:
- How to create the circle outline for the curved text using the ellipse tool

I always love seeing how other designers do things. This is almost the exact way I do this! The only difference is I set the text to center justify and align it to the center point along the curve. However even thought the text is truly centered, it tends to sometime appear visually off center so I like your idea of using the ruler guides better. Thanks!

Hey man, you missed the part about Type>Type on Path>Type on Path Options>Align to path>Ascender to drop the text below the circle on the bottom so the top of the text aligns with the outside of the guide circle instead of the bottom of the text on the top or inside of the circle.. dig me>?

There is actually an updated version of this, this is one of the oldest videos on my channel. You can control text on a circle a lot more, by using the type on a path options located; Type > Type On A Path > Type On A Path Options,

Thnx for this. Is there a particular reason for dividing the circle before you start typing? Ik keep it intact and center align the text. The text at the bottom is simply a copy and paste in place of the fist circle. This method has at least two advantages, firstly, there is a handle to align the text to the center so you don't need to align the text visually. It stays perfectly straight even if you need to add or subtract letters. Second en most importantly, if you change the diameter of the circle to vertical align the text in the space available, you can do so because the circle is intact and scaling (with opt+shift) from the center is a breeze…

Great that you posted this, but there's only one problem. The bottom text is on the inside of the circle, and the top is outside. What's the easiest way to put the bottom text outside the circle so it's symmetrical?

With the type selected, go up to Type > Type on a path > Type on a path options, and you will find settings there :)

Your method works almost perfectly. The bottom test does not line up correctly with the baseline & going to the type on a path selection offers no hope in exact positioning. This is not seen when you finish your tutorial. Any suggestions?

The problem is that the bottom text doesn't actually go around the outside of the circle. If someone wanted an actual circle in the center of the text you wouldn't see the bottom text, so you have to change its position.

I am doing the exact same thing you have shown, but, the direct select tool is not flipping the text when I click in the same place and drag it across the line....it simply does nothing. I am using Illustrator CC 20.1.0. Did they remove this feature???

This brings the lower text INSIDE the circle so it is now on a completely different path from the upper text! Not helpful at all!!

After the text on the bottom is flipped over the path/line is there a way to have the top of the text aligned to the path instead of the bottom so that it is sitting "outside" the line and not inside the line?

hey Nancy. This is something I have come across as an issue in the past, and to my knowledge there is no function at the moment that will place the text either directly on or outside of the line, which is annoying. There may be one but I do not know of it. I simply edit and move the line after I am done if I want to align it perfectly.

i just did what i said in my previous comment. with the path selected, go to type menu, type on a path, and then type on a path options. where it says baseline, choose center. do this on both top and bottom path so they are the same.

It can be tricky at first. Basically you need to use the white arrow tool (the direct selection tool) and look for a small black line along the curve. Once you find it, click and move the line upwards and the text should flip. Try zooming in your screen so you can see it easier :)

thanks for the feedback. You need to use the white arrow selection tool and hover it over the circle where you can see a small vertical black line on the circle. Once you find it, you can hold down your click and drag the text over Hope this helps?

thanks a lot for the feedback on my vids :) It may be that you need to drag the text around the circle more? It could also be that it the text is making it hard to see? Did you make sure to cut the circle with the scissors tool? But yeah try dragging the text around and then looking again, it should be there

Hey Kristy. Do you mean that you need to keep the letters aligned along a horizontal line on the bottom, or that they need to be in line with the top set of letters?

You need to use the direct selection tool, the white arrow tool. And you need to make sure you click on the small line that is on the circle, so zoom in :)

@@thecelticmessiah I figured out that you can adjust where the text falls on the path if you mess with one of the settings in the character panel (It has the big A on the left with a little a to the right of it with an arrow underneath - not sure what this is called but it worked for me :)

OK, this is flawed, the upper text sits OUTSIDE of the circle and then the lower text, is placed INSIDE the circle, TEXT is not justified to the same circle, HAH! UPPER text must sit inside the circle
