In this video I show you how to update your Genesis's navigation (Maps) and software/firmware at home for free. Genesis has made it very easy to update the headunit yourself in the comfort of your own home using Genesis/Hyundai's new navigation updater tool. If your headunit has not been updated before, it may get some UI changes depending on the headunit type. Even if you don't get the new theme, you will still receive many benefits such as updated POI's, new features, and updated maps.

From what I understand after reading some comments. This update will not give apple car play option to the 2014-2017 g80 models? Is that correct? Because that is my sole reason for wanting to update as I’ve seen on other channels they say it will allow apple car play after the update.

I believe you are correct. The 9.2" screen did not get the capability until 2018. The smaller 8" screen was capable from the launch of this generation G80 in 2015.

I am more concerned with making any changes to my cars computer system. Now that 3G system has been deactivated hopefully no updates will occur via my connection to my phone. As a computer expert I have become aware of computer updates causing more problems. My system wirks great now and would prefer not to open pandoras box. You could possibly address this issue in future videos. Thanks very much for making this quick to the point video. Very nicely made. You might be interested to know that I installed the mykeypremiim remote start plug in module on my 2015 Genesis G80 3.8 and it works well. I did deactivate the autolock feature because it is too easy to lock the key fob in tbe car with that.

Just an FYI. If you use flash drive, you can only update audio system, not the navigation. You need to use sd card

This is correct in SOME vehicles however depending on the generation of headunit, the maps are stored on the headunit so USB is used to update it. Only for a short period of time Hyundai used SD cards to store and read the maps.

Whats it do other than nav map update? Im in the exact same car as you 2018 sport. Debating if i should update because i heard some people regretting it

It doesn't change a lot on the older cars, but it does update the POI/maps. If you use it a lot, it can be helpful. If not, it might not be worth it.

No, the 9.2" system did not receive Android Auto until the 2018MY.

I am trying to install the update on my 2015 genesis 5.0, there was an existing 16 gb SD card in the slot. I removed it and inserted the 32 gb SD with the update on it and I get the message "please check update memory and try again" ... I am not sure what to do.

The stupid system won't transfer files to an SD card larger than 32g, even though I have the 64g card formatted to FAT32.

For anyone still having this issue, you can use Windows partition manager to delete the existing partition and create a 32gb partition to make it work

As far as I know, the 9.2" screen did not get Apple Carplay or Android Auto until the 2018 model year.

It does not change the Bluelink version you have although with recent changes to connectivity (Data) it will update the modem software to be able to use 4G as long as the vehicle is equipped with the correct hardware. This update was required to continue using Bluelink for many vehicles that are a handful of years old.

I have had 3 previous Genesis and had no problem finding the SD card slot. They were all 9.2" screen premium DIS/Jog setup, all with CD/DVD player. I now have a 2020 G80(no DVD) & don't see where the SD slot is hidden(behind which button or door). Can you be more specific please?

The update tool shows the 2020 got the Gen 5 headunit which means it will use USB to update. This was the only model year out of that generation to feature Gen 5 so it makes sense as it does not use an SD card.

No, unfortunately older systems are not capable of running Android Auto or Apple Carplay. The oldest systems capable are 2015+ in select Hyundai vehicles. By 2017/18, it became standard in most models.

The sd card that came with my ‘18 g80 is a 16 gig. I used a second 32 gig sd to perform update. Must I keep the new sd card in or car I put the old one back in?

Keep whatever card is currently updated installed. That is how the maps are read. You can keep the old one as a spare or for other use.

I have got a genesis g80 2015 ultimate version with DH USA software. Somehow Sirius XM is not available on the menu. I have gone through the settings to check if I can enable but I could not find any option related to SXM. I have updated my software to the latest available version. If you can help me to enable this it will be great. Thanks.

I’d try factory resetting. SXM is stock with the Genesis. (At least not the subscription) but the option yes.

any idea which update I would use - I have a 2015 Genesis 3.8 Ultimate The head unit reads MODEL - DH // S/W VER. - DH.USA.SOP.10.005 // MAP VER. - NAM.07.47.65.001.002 // NAVI Application - PR2.NAM.HMC.140818.0001 Which doesn't match up with any of the options exactly and I really don't want want to brick the unit since the dealer said he really doesn't "recommend" me trying it and that I should just upgrade if I want CarPlay Thanks a lot for the info

does the car need to be turned on durng the updat 30-40 minutes or can I just put the drive in initally for the up date and then turn the car off?

You need to keep power running to the vehicle so the system can update. If you want to leave it running while parked you can do this or you can drive the vehicle while it is updating but make sure not to turn power off until it is complete.

i installed a new sd card and volume activation is not working 2. can i update my previous installed sd card with an update without getting a new sd card 3. which is the simply way to do this. dealer said volume did not come with update to navigation system....does this seem plausible?

Which volume are you referring to? You can always reuse the same SD card to perform the update again if you would like.

If it has navigation, you used to be able to update it. I am not sure if they still offer the updates for the Genesis Coupe as they are no longer listed on the updater tool.

You will need a 32GB usb however a 64GB will work also.

The update almost went through and after 30 minutes of copying, updating etc, I end up with this => Error Code: [604] Updating has failed. now no matter what I do, it wont go away, tried switching back to older version, tried disconnecting the battery, it just end up updating the Modem 1/4 and => Error Code: [604] Updating has failed.

Only certain models from Hyundai added Carplay to the existing system. What year/model do you have?

This is not possible on the larger screen until the 2018MY which is came from the factory with.

You can use any high speed SD card. Just make sure to follow the update directions which includes formatting it.
