I start with the conventional can opener. Here you see the handle, which we can easily open, and two cutting wheels. Now we open this handle and place the cutting wheel diagonally on the inside edge of the can. Now you press the handle and you will hear a clicking sound.
At this point you will be able to lift the can like this. Now everything is properly snapped into place. All you have to do now is turn the provided handle several times until you are once around the can. Then you have already opened your can.
Unfortunately, there are two disadvantages with this type of can opener. Firstly, the lid is usually inside the can after opening and secondly you have sharp edges, so that you have to be careful.
Therefore, there are also special safety can openers. One of those I'm going to introduce to you now. This one works a little bit differently and cuts completely different than the other can opener.
Here we also have a small cutting wheel and a gear wheel. This opener also has a handle that you can easily open. However, we will use this one completely different on the can. So, place the cutting wheel on the inside of the can and then close the handle once. This way the can opener should snap in, so that you can lift the can again.
Now you just have to turn the handle at the top several times until you have worked your way around the can completely. This can opener has two advantages. First, with a safety can opener the can is not cut on the inside, but on the outside. This means you have no sharp edges which is much safer for your fingers.
And secondly, you can also easily put this lid back on the can to use it as a protective cover for the food which is inside.
