sideskraft, very interesting points, thanks for sharing. Out smooth cuts are used all the time and still serving us well, but based on your details above its just a matter of time. I'll wipe the edge of our cans from here on out. I saw a video of a guy using the older style can opener to do a smooth cut but haven't tried it myself yet.

The bad review are usually from inept people who don't know how to read and follow instructions.

I seen many of those reviews on amazon... it is discouraging. Im trying to find an electric can opener for my mom.

Regular can openers can leave shards of metal from the can in the food as well. Anyone who's used one knows that.

Totally agree. My folks use thiers all the time.

And with people who are suffering with arthritis.

Joshua, thanks for your comments. I didn't know you could buy sausage gravy in a can. You can use rechargeable batteries , we do. Sorry about your arm, doesn't sound fun at all. I'm not aware of a USB charging version. But if I find one I'll let you know.

@@MakeItorBreakItNow the sausage gravy in a can is an item they sell at Sam's Club. Let me know if anything pops up on the USB ones, because that would make life a lot easier since I have a 16000mAH power bank with solar panel. Great for survival situations where electricity might not be available and when I cannot crank the opener manually.

DNTME, how did the kitchen Mama Work out for you? Agree the battery operated can openers struggle most of the time, and do eat up batteries which I have found as more time passes.

@@MakeItorBreakItNow So far it's been great. I do like the small size. Hasn't struggled at all. Always cuts cleanly and completely in one pass around the rim. Not doing the job on the first pass was an early warning sign of impending failure on my previous opener. But then I've only opened maybe a dozen cans with it. That includes one of those large cans food in bulk come in. Still on the first set of batteries even. A lot of the stuff I get in cans has a pop-top opener built in so It'll be a while before I've used it on enough cans to say one way or the other. The one thing I didn't like about it is that the magnet was recessed in the body by a lip around it. Doesn't take much distance for a magnet's attraction powers to drop off significantly (that pesky inverse square thing), and it shows in this unit. Major Digression Here: So, I filed down the lip around the magnet until it was flush with the body (screw the warranty!). That helped some, but cans with a high lip are still problematic. However it does grip the lip on the outside rim of the can better. IMO, if anything the magnet should protrude beyond the unit's body. Wouldn't take much and, Generally, this shouldn't really be a problem since the opener lifts it's tail when doing it's work.

Kitchenaid has a similar version I just bought as a backup. There are also other brands, they all pretty much work the same way.

@@bakuya99 Thanks. i did a search just now and still don't see it, but i ended up buying the Good Cook Safe Cut can opener which looks just like the T-fal (without the hole at the end of the handle) which is still available for $9.99, and it works great!

Anka Anka, thanks for your question. I used all the can openers as they were intended to be operated. Since the test we also use the second one the most, but the teenagers like the battery operated version - more for their amusement to see it go around by itself.

"...shouldn't the first opener be used from the top, not on the side?" Doing it from the side is the way it was intended to be used, but I have seen people use it from the top successfully.

@@MakeItorBreakItNow I wasn't commenting on your video; I was replying to Anka Anka's question, which I quoted in my comment. Your video wasn't at all confusing, but Anka Anka seems to think that style of can opener should be operated turned 90° on its side, which would be silly.

For folks with arthritis, I agree.

RabidMartal1, you may have a point. All the test were done using identical cans. The seems didn't look any different. But I'll take a closer look and report back if they are indeed different. Thanks for the feedback.

kristfferson, good point. But I would suggest that when you have a lot of cans to open the time to open does become a factor, kind of like the difference of cutting vegetables with dull versus a sharp knife. As long as these three openers are cleaned and cared for I've found they last. The battery operated one was recommended by my mother who is in her 80s and can't really twist open cans anymore. The reason i commented about the quality is because most of can openers i tried using is just a waste of money. At first it would perform well due to the fact that it's new but sad part of it is it didn't last long 😭. That's why i hope you'd make another video which among those opener lasted long and became the last can opener standing 😁

@@MakeItorBreakItNow Yes sir you don't need AA batteries because li-on is an Integrated deep cycle technology that can produce soupier wattage output. Volts andAH don't mean anything without that wattage factor.

Alex, not sure which can opener you're referring to. The T-fal seized up on me Thanksgiving day, it just wouldn't work and I noticed the inner wheel wasn't turning so I soaked it for about an hour in warm soapy water, rinsed its and it back to working like a champ. Thanks for you comment.
