Hey, I know that guy. I know that boat too because it’s mine! The boat is eleven years old but is new to me. It came from south Florida, was stored outside and was heavily oxidized. Drake Is very conscientious and achieved amazing results. Thanks Drake!

Thanks for the video . I just did the hood on my boat and I’m super happy with the results. I’ve been doing this all wrong .I have one question. Do you buff until the pad is dry and it starts to polish the area ? Or enough to have to wipe it off with a cloth ?
@jdisdetermined
@jdisdetermined 2 года назад
You want to end your cycle, or add fresh compound before it flashes, or dries out. Dry buffing is just abusing the paint, spiking temps, chucking dust and not cutting efficiently. It's also a lot harder to wipe off residue if you overwork it. If your liquid is drying out too soon you're either not using enough or the section size is too large for the conditions.
@wandabrenot7928

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I’ve just started doing fiberglass cleanups and I have been doing this last step completely wrong. How many times do you have/need to reapply the buffing cream onto the pad? I get so much cream and dust everywhere, hoping this will cut down in it. Also, do you not have to put a little bit of water onto the buffing cream? My mind is blown here, looking forward to putting this technique into practice! I LOVE the cleaning tip, thanks again!
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 2 года назад
Hey! You should clean your pad and re-apply your compound after every pass! No water needed that will ruin the shine and break down the compound prematurely. I highly recommend using all Starke Products, as they provide the best results out of anything else I’ve ever used as a detailer! They extra heavy cut compound “Level R” is the best! Give it a try! drakesmarinedetailsupply.com/collections/starke-surface-technology/products/starke-yacht-care-level-r-heavy-cut-compound?_pos=1&_sid=b312404cc&_ss=r

Hello, just recently subbed to your channel. I like your thoroughness and instruction. Nice work/ results. I have a DA can I get similar results taking the steps I use to polish a vehicle on mild oxidation on a blue stripe on a 94 bayliner? Sonax perfect finish polish is the product. Maybe start with a griot’s garage, compound with a wool pad on DA? Then to a foam pad for the polish step then to a wax? What do you recommend as better wax product? Thank you, you are putting out excellent material for Detailer’s to learn by.

Hey Drake! Awesome info. Just picked up a Griots G9 for a boat with ~15 years of scum & scale. Got a suggestion for what to cut it with? Using the griots microfiber pad with maguire’s 67 (one step compound) [their suggestion] but am not really getting anywhere. I was hoping to knock this out in a couple of days, but at this rate it’ll take me a solid month. And a boatload of compound!
@DrakesDetailing

The G9 is great for polishing but not cutting. You will need to use a rotary buffer and wool pads to be able to cut out the oxidation. The G9 is great for polishing out swirl marks left behind by the rotary and wool pad and waxing

@DrakesDetailing

Hey Man! you probably wanna take a lot of wet sanding steps, and work your way to a really fine sand. Then just work your way down grit wise with the compound, staring with level R then go down from there with the chain of compounds. Then use your finishing polish with a forced rotation. Hope this helps! Here’s a link to my website! drakesmarinedetailsupply.com/

Love it!! One question. I heard you used a RUPES. I’ve been told that if you use RUPES, you have to use RUPES compound and polish only. What did you do and does it work if you use other polishes? Thanks man
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 3 года назад
You can use other compounds and polishes, but I actually sold that machine. I would recommend a force rotation machine. Like the flex 3401 or rupee Millie

Man that’s wild ! I was told the same thing today at the detail store. I bought a 5” micro pad for Polisher and told him it didn’t last very long . He said I can’t use 3D with a rupees pad .. I said wtf?! News a good time to tell me, 5 days after u sold me the pads.

@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 2 года назад
Could be to fast, also a rotary will usually leave them that’s why you should follow up with a DA polisher or forced rotation polisher and a foam pad, it will get them all out

Wow! Great video. I just purchased a Makita 9237C and have never used a polisher before. I want to polish the gelcoat on my 22 Pathfinder that I purchased new in August 2021. My plan is to polish only, not compound, with 3M Finesse It II and a Lake Country white foam pad. I'll follow up with sealer and wax. Anything I should be careful of? Thanks for the great learning session.
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 2 года назад
I’d the boat oxidized at all? If it is the 3m finesse won’t be heavy enough to cut away the oxidation

@@DrakesDetailing Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, Drake. The boat was at the dealer getting it's 20hr check and I wanted to take another look at it before I responded to your reply. I would call the hull "lightly" oxidized. I cannot see any chalk so to speak, just a bit of dullness. I hoping that I can do a decent job with my existing polisher, pads and polish, sealer and wax. My plan is to go at it with the Finesse It II and a Lake Country CCS white pad, followed by hand applications of West Marine boat polish with PTEF and then a final coat of Meguirs Marine Wax. Thanks for any advice!

How do I know if I should compound with a rotary buffer & wool pad? Should this only be done if there's light oxidation? Bought some of the Starke products today using your code. Saved me a bunch! Thanks Drake!

Can I wax with the orange force pad as well or just the microfiber and which size pad do you prefer and what machine the griots or the flex is better?
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 4 года назад
Flex is better for sure! You can use the orange force pad, I don’t like using the foam pads to wax. It soaks in alit if product and wastes it. I like the micro fiber for waxing because they are thin and don’t waste product! I like the 6.5 inch pads

Excellent advice and great channel. Was wondering if you have a video or advice for dark colored hulls. Im experienced detailer in South Florida and have a gig coming up for a black hull, painted not gel coat. Im a bit nervous, even with years of experience, this will be my first and Ive heard horror stories that they are notoriously difficult. Or easy to leave swirl marks no matter how careful one is. The boat is not heavily oxidized but has very obvious patches, where repairs have been done and you can see where its been repainted in those areas on the hull. Looking for advice from a trusted source. Are they more challenging than light colored hulls? Appreciate any words of wisdom on this and will keep looking through your playlist to see if you've covered this topic previously. Thanks for any tips on this if possible.

Hey man! Unfortunately I’ve never encountered this exact scenario, but the closest job I’ve done in comparison was this Formula (which are all painted) and it was really oxidized. It really through me for a loop, ha! Have a watch, I hope this helps 😎🔥 m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i9a7guIsBK4.html

Similar question to the one below. When cutting with the rotary, how often to you add more compound to the pad? Or do you not add after it's caked and leverage the spur?
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 2 года назад
I personally would add compound roughly every 2-3 feet, buff it in, then wipe off and repeat. Clean your pad between every section.
@tonyfernandez8236

Are you saying that we should clean/refluff the pad after each section or just when we see the pad becoming caked and matted down? Thanks.

@alfredrisheim8820

A wood-like, textile-based laminate (phenolic composite) was used for the deck area and instrument panel. While having an ostensibly organic feel and aesthetic, it is significantly more durable than wood. For the exteriour they used anodized aluminum, a material not generally associated with boats; this lightweight material is used in lieu of stainless steel and chrome brass, yet remains contextual among Riva’s glamour and classical design.
