I am going over some tips on how to use a singer 20U Zigzag straight stitch machine to be used as a embroidery machine. As you say it would take a lot of practice to get the right technique to do great artwork. I always recommend that you practice an hour a day for about two or three weeks to get used to the machine before you go to your own project and try to produce some thing. Some people have more experience and will catch on it pretty quickly. But you still need to know your machine, know how to troubleshoot why something right and wrong. Hi! This is an old video but I just got my 20u73 set to this and I’m having issues catching the thread when my foot is off.. I don’t have the embroidery plate yet as I ordered one but am using the zig zag plate. Is there an adjustment that needs to be done? Or do I need the embroidery plate. It works with the zigzag foot attached but it’s hard to move the fabric around freely

My singer 20u won’t pick up the bobbin thread unless I use the foot, do you know how to get it to work like you just showed without the foot?

The top tension seems quite loose despite tightening it

What is wrong when you can't pull bobbin thread up

Check the bobbin case and bobbin that there are not dented or out of shape. And when you’re pulling the thread up and it doesn’t come out that means the machine is at a time.
