Best explanation I've seen of this thanks 👍 I'm a new driver and it's been like trying to read hieroglyphs for me. First day in a wagon for me today and, despite passing the theory test, was clueless about using the machine in the real world.
Passed my class 2 a few weeks ago and start my new career with an agency tomorrow. I did the tacho and working hours element of the CPC cos I needed to know this stuff, but as others have said, they don't show you how to use the tacho, which I thought they would. I mean they should, it's a fundamental part of trucking. Anyhoo, watched your video and it seems straight forward but will save the video so I can refer to it at 05.00, lol. Thank you
cheers Luke! First day as a HGV driver today and I've watched his video a few times because as you say we aren't taught how to do this! We should be, it's a legal requirement to know this stuff.
Hi there Luke mate. I have a question. What do you do with your taco card when you get out your truck? Say your at the services on the motorway and you want some food. Do you take your card out or leave it in and only take it out at the end of the day?? Please reply bud.
It is cammon problem they fill you with all this data and do not tell u what to do in any case. If u find a stash or an illegal immigrant .. then what should you do ? Same for the taco all the symbols but no operation.... funny
Why pull your card out when you're still working that could land you in a wee spot of bother if Mr VOSA is watching plus you up load it to you tube evidence is there I would rethink what you have done also misleading new drivers by saying you can pull your card while doing other work ??? Happy Motoring
Now when he drives off to park up. if he gets investigated it will show up as unknown driver! And he will have a shit load of hassle. So leave your card in until you have absolutely finished for the day!!
Hi Luke cheers for all the info in your vids , love it as I understand it . Started watching you about 2 months ago , you made me change my career, so in the last 2 months I’ve went from being a school caretaker passed class 2 and class 1 , got myself a job Monday been doing extra training this week in the yard getting ready for my first solo and shitting it lol
Cheers buddy. I' ve just passed my class 2 and I haven't a clue how you use the tachograph . Seems simple enough , just getting an idea before I start a job.
I done a 10 hour day 2 days ago and didn’t record any breaks as I’m useless with the taco machine and I told the guys back at base and they kindly said they would put me with someone for the whole day just to get clued up with it all but now I have watched this video it all seems a bit of a waste of time I think I ACTUALLY get it!! Thanks for the helpful video 👍
Things have changed since i drove trucks in the UK 20yrs ago, we had round carbon tacho discs that you placed behind the speedometer! Here in New Zealand we still use the old paper log books!! Keep on truckin!
I am picking up a van for the first time next week that uses a tacho. It's just a straight pickup and drive to a destination. The journey time might take me over 4.5 hrs but I am not sure. if I need to stop for a break, do I just stop and the tacho goes into break or do I have to set it. Once I have had the break do I just start driving again or again do I need to set it?
+Luke C in a HGV +fastasfox I was just wondering if one of you could answer this please , at the beginning of this video no manual entry was done witch is cool clearly no work to add on from the previous shift but how would u put you're daily rest in with out a entry or does the tacho do this automatically ?
Passed class 2 today. I dont own a digi card yet my company has asked me to drive the 7ht waggon tomorrow is it ok to drive it or do i need to have my digi card ?
Aren’t you supposed to use local time of the car registration country? If you work in the UK and it is summer time, use that one, not UTC. If your truck is registered in Italy and you work in the UK, you use Italian local time. This is the law, am I right?
Hi luke do you ever have to do manual entries and if so for what reason? I thought as long as you enter card at shift start show 15 minutes for checks and show breaks in accordance with law your fine i cant get my head around manual entry on day to day basis any answers would be good cheers
@@anthonyhudson4318 I do a manual entry each day I start at 4am I put the card in then it asks if I want a manual entry click yes then I go to yesterday's date then add 15-20 minutes of other work on to my finish time to cover for things like paperwork and vehicle checks then click ok it will take you on to the current day then enter that you was on rest until your start tim e.g 4 am click ok then enter again it will still be on the same date (today's) then it will say the current time with other work simble then just click enter and that should be about it. But believe it or not you can get tacho simulators to practice on so you don't get an infringement. Hope this kind of helps.
There can be a few reasons like as stitchupman said to cover time in the office/dispatch doing paperwork or if you drive a vehicle that does not have a tacho fitted. A bus driver only has to record the driving if the route is over 50km, but as soon as they do 1 50km route (eu rules) all driving including under 50km (domestic rules) have to be recorded and not all buses are tachoed so manual entry is required. i can't remember for how long though.
Great stuff luke c. So, If I was stuck in a que on the motorway for an hr for example would the tacho symbol change to other work to save driving hrs ? Thanks in advance
Hope that passed bud. I'm in the same situation this morning. No help from amyone as to how to operate the tachograph. This video helped but I still am feeling short of confidence with the breaks 😬
Confused if you do 15 min break in six hours then another 30 on sixth hour if you had say hour half driving time left in the four and half what happens to the hour and half you had left? Any answers please
You just started a shift put tacho in and drove straight away that's a infringement hahaha have to wait 10 mins to ensure done checks thats 3 point hit for video :) I fucking hate tachos !!!
I'm new to this crap and I need to know why no matter what I do, the fkn tachograph says driving without card. I insert the card the correct way round but it ALWAYS says "driving without card" WHY????
All you can do is keep driving, get a printout and write on it the reason why, e.g. Stuck in traffic, road, time. POA is you're stopped but maybe required to move at any time (I think)
POA is when you KNOW IN ADVANCE you will be sitting around doing fuck all, it saves your driving hours. So you go from the yard to 1st delivery..you know it ain't open for another 30 mins/hour etc, whack it on POA instead of other work
My office request that I go back everyday and round up and close the time of my working put a question mark on my time over night I've driven for 12 years before this and delt with taco cards without any problems and the company are using infringements as a way of making people redundant of all things I can do this but as you know at early hours I really struggle to do it especially as the screen is so small it's really getting me down.i had a infringment Friday because I messed up the manual and put crossed hammers instead of the ? symbol they said they wouldn't be able to do anything at the start of the shift and that they wouldn't be able to remove all the infringements that I would have on for driver error which I don't think is right but yeah idk any info would be great I know it's a old video
hi there OK I'm an American CDL A driver we run tractor trailers I'm out of Dallas TX USA and plan to relocate get my HGV class 1 as I've already GOT 11 yrs experience.... question#1) do UK HGV employeers I.e. Eddie Stobart Logistics train Americans and perhaps cover some or all costs ? question#2) I'm relocating for marriage have a working HGV CV now and my timeline is June 2018 any advice ? thanks again yall Monica
You can still move the truck without a card in. You simply do a manual entry the next day to account for that time 🤙🏻 This was recorded quite a while ago but I do believe the truck was left on the pump at the time. If the truck was in the way then someone else could move it
you can drive UPTO 4.5hrs before your break. After the 45 min break (can be split into a 15 then 30 min as long as the 45 is taken) your driving time resets. Remember that not only do you have to take your driving time but also your working time into account for breaks i.e. either 4.5hrs driving OR 6hrs working whichever comes first.
Interesting, I was a hitchhiker years back, so been in many trucks. Back in the day thay had tacko discs, I guess to register a break, you just stopped, and it would "record" a flat line? Then You looked at your watch. Keepsafe sir.
great vids mate , firms putting though lgv ., to drive a 7.5 tonner , passed medical , now booked to do cpc , hazard pep , and lorry therory , Can you tell me the best revision tools? brought DVSA , but at a loss , with how complicated the whole thing is !!!!! total disppear lol
A 2014 Commission report analysed the implementation of the directive and regulation in 2011-2012. It found certain improvements in the application of the legislation. However the incompleteness and inconsistency of EU countries’ submissions prevented an in-depth analysis of the effect on road safety or on the health and safety of drivers. The Commission noted that it would launch a comprehensive evaluation of the functioning of social legislation in road transport. sites.google.com/site/tachographeu/euro-tachograph-gb
Best way to do your breaks is, one and a half hours in take 15 minits, that way it clears your 6 hour working time bullshit break and levels it In tune with your 4 and a half hour driving breaks, then all you need is a 30 Minit break for your next break then start again, it's really simple, I read it over and over and still didn't get it. When I started working I fucked my tacko break up and then it all clicked. You will more than likely have to fuck it to learn it. It's so true. Really noting to worrie about.
Quick question Luke. You ejected your card while tacho was set on other work. If you start a new day like you showed without doing manual entry how the time between ejection and insertion will be recorded? I'm assuming as a break right? Tacho thinks if you don't have anything to put on using manual Entry that means you were on your break?
Hi mate just passed my class2 very helpful can i ask say if i started my shift at 7am and i did 1 hour of work and then 2hours of driving and 1hour 30min of work total of 4 and half hours do i take a 45min break?
Hi Luke. Just got a 7.5 tonne job and I cant wait to start. You are the first place I came to, to learn. Great channel..... Ps I am doing my Class 2 in 6 months time....
When I reach to 4.5 driving time, Do I need to start my break spot on time? Or can I start few minutes before or after depending on when I get safe parking space?
Thanks Luke!Started two days ago.Had to say that i know how to work tacho just to get the job.Just after pulling in for my 30 and basically shitting myself coz didn't know for how long exactly i was driving. After your video i know how to check how much of driving time i have left snd etc.THANK YOU SO MUCH!👍💪
Hi made first mistake with tacho left in on day off went to other work instead of me being alseep in my bed so today i technically had no hours to drive and wanted me to take 24 hour break i took breaks as normal but kept counting down from 24 hours each time no one can help me :(
What do you do if you're due a break but get delayed in traffic or something else and can't get to a suitable place on time to have your break? Sorry about basic question but I've just started theory training.
You carry on and stop “in a safe place” Not necessarily the first available space. Do s print out and explain you were caught in traffic, sign and date it and keep it for a calendar month. 🤙🏻
dont forget manual entries its compulsory or face heavy fines for repeating the offence. its as obvious as night follows day that your day started before you inserted your card
Luke, when you want to take a full 45min break do you just let it tick over or do you need to do another input on the tacho? .. thanks m8 video really helped
Brilliant......so basically I can just leave it on hammers until I take a break.............I usually have 10 mins break a couple of times...obviously this won't register as a break then? Btw why would I ever use the driving symbol then if it switches automatically?
Sorry I don't understand your question. It's abit jumbled. Also, not sure if your quoting me or telling me what you do. I recorded this video almost 3 years ago.
Thank you so much for this I am just coming back to driving wagons more familiar with the old disc type. But on new vehicles now have digital tachos so very helpful to me. Regards Andy.
