I've started looking for videos because I did my first project and washed the transfer but it didn't clean up very well so I was looking for tips to get it clean. Hello, I do decorative wine and mason jars with chalk paint. Can I use this chalk paste on the chalk paint. I wanted to decorate some of the bottles and jars and wanted to know if I can use it. Thank you!

Yes! After you pain the glass, apply a thin layer of our surface wax (or paste finishing wax from a hardware store) to keep the stencil from sticking to your paint and pulling it up. Also, fuzz the living HELL out of the stencil before putting it on glass :) We have some great designs that would be adorable on glasses. The 9x12 size that have 12 designs on them cut down to 3"x3"-- perfect for glassware! chalkcouture.com/WhatsJamieMakin/

I’m new and struggling! Stuff bleeds, pastes are dry, then designs don’t stick to surface. I ruined the big new flag transfer by using ink. I can’t get it clean and all of the sticky is gone. I was ready to throw in the towel and sell everything! I just watched a few techniques on bringing dry pastes back to life. Thank you for your videos

Welcome to Chalk, Rachel! Im sorry you’re struggling. I want to encourage you to keep trying. Just like anything new, it takes practice to be able to tell at a glance if your paste is drying, the amount of pressure you need with your squeegee and all the little nuances. Im sure you’ll get it though!! To reduce bleeding: on a textured surface, make sure you’re using wax. It’ll fill in some of the texture and give you a smooth surface to chalk on. If the surface is smooth and bleeds: your paste may be too wet or the transfer isn’t sealed well around the open screen. Just run over it a couple more times with your clean squeegee to help get a good seal. The design not staying after the peel is from a dry paste/paste drying on your screen, too. We have a video on our channel called “How to Use Large Transfers”. That’ll give you a few tips for keeping paste moist while you work. I hope those tips will help! Just keep trying 💕 It’ll be worth it. Maybe practice on a washable surface, too. That way you have as controlled of an environment as you can from the start. 🌟

Hey Sheila! The Ink is used when you have something that you’d want to wash but keep the design. So, coffee mugs, wine glasses, shirts, towels, table runners, things like that. Thanks for taking time to make this beginners’ video. How long does it take for the stencil to dry so it can be used again? Can the stencils be used with acrylic paint?

My pleasure! They dry pretty quickly and you can use them again when they’re still slightly damp. But, there’s a couple ways you can speed up the dry time: wipe off any excess water with a lint-free cloth on both sides (I like to use the Norwex Glass Cloth). You can also dry it with a hairdryer, Quick Dry Tool from Chalk Couture, embossing/heat gun, or sit it in front of a fan. If you’re using any of the methods with *heat* be VERY careful not to get too close to the stencil or it may melt…. Ask me how I know 🤣

As far as acrylic paint, yes, they can be used with acrylic paint. There are a couple things I will caution you on though: 1. You may get more bleeding with paint as it’s consistency is thinner than the Chalk Couture paste. This means it may push under the screen, even if you got a good seal around the design. 2. Clean your screens *really well* if you use paint. Chalk paste will wash out even months later if you find you didn’t clean your screen well the first time. Paint will not wash away later. So just be very diligent with the cleaning. Our Board Erasers do a great job at getting in the mesh well. You can find them on my website under the Accessories: beta.chalkcouture.com/WhatsJamieMakin/board-eraser-2-pack?productid=334 3. Paint is permanent. (Duh, right?) But the chalk paste will wash away so you can change the design. If you know that what you’re making you want to keep on forever, go for it! :) Hope that’s helpful! :) I’d love to see any projects you are making! I made you a little shopping cart of things you'll need to get started 😁 You can change out the stencil design and the Ink color, or add more to the cart as you'd like, but this will get you started! The stencil I included is one of my favorites, but it also shows you how big you can go for shirts-- bigger than 12" wide won't fit very nicely. Can you use chalk paste with non adhesive stencils

You can, but you will need to be quite careful it doesn't bleed under or move the stencil. You'll want to start squeegeeing on the solid part of the stencil and pull in toward the open area. An easier solution would be to thin the paste down with water and use a sponge or roller to "dab".

Yep! Instead of the paste, you'd want to get our INK instead. The Ink becomes permanent once its heatset with an iron or heatpress. Goes on exactly the same!

Hey Linda! Yes you absolutely can use them outside. We chalked our mailbox about 3 years ago! The paste will hold up well outside but some of the surfaces are not meant for outdoors. We are upstate NY so we completely understand changing wether lol. We have not found much you can't chalk on lol. Wood, metal and terracotta all work well with the paste. You can use the ink on terracotta and metal and make it permanent once it's heat set. If you use it on wood then it's a good idea to give it a quick wax before you chalk it. Tried my first chalk today and it bled through! What did I do wrong? Too much pressure in application step, maybe. I notice you did not use surface wax. Could that be a problem also.?

Hey Sandra! Sorry to hear it bled on you. A few questions. What kind surface did you use? Some should definitely be waxed, like wood, and some should not, like chalk couture made chalk boards. Did it bleed in just one spot or over most of the design? What color did you use? Some are more prone to bleeding than others believe it or not. Paste is semi-permanent. It will dry hard so you don’t have to seal it to keep it nice, but it can also wash away with water and some abrasion! On a chalkboard it’ll wash completely away. On wood and other porous materials the pigments will seep in, but the actual chalk will wash away.

Hey Gail! You absolutely can use it on cloth. If you want to make a tee shirt you will want to use ink instead of chalk. Same basic idea but you heat set the ink to make it permanent and washable. You can use both our chalk and our ink on glass and ceramics. Again chalk will wash off and ink once heat set will be permanent (make your own coffee mug!). You can use chalk on paper (just be sure to wax the paper and fuzz the transfer well). We have a few videos on the channel doing this. We even made our own wrapping paper!

Yes, that is the official name. But new folks who aren’t as familiar with Chalk Couture, call them stencils because it’s a term that they already understand. I feel proper terminology isn’t as important as understanding what the product is and how it can make their lives easier.
