When I went through basic we ate a lot of C-rats. 1 P-38 came in each case of 12. The cooks would hand them out at random. We could open all four cans in the average C-rat in about a minute

I have owned the small one before. I have lost it some were. I am glad I have like 4 multi tools with good can openers in them.

I think they are absolutely genius. The size, the price and how portable they are.

I do believe that Stansport and Marbles both offer spoon/spork upgrades. With the added weight, I'd say they're best carried on a key chain.

Hold on, our friends 'down under' had one called the field ration eating device (F.R.E.D.) that looks like the Stansport, or maybe it's the other way around. Anywho, I think the P51 was meant for the larger cans/tins in the mess hall.

"The Army uses stuff until it's gone". Yup. Some of the C-rats we had were from the 40s; the earliest I personally saw was 1941. I went through basic in 1980

These r my favorite to use. I didn't know abt these until my fiance showed me how to use them years ago. I prefer these over any can opener

These could be worth more than their weight in gold in the near future.

I have one in mt get home bag and another in my bugout bag. I also have an Aussie FRED (fueld ration eating device) which looks like an elongated p51 with a mini spoon on the other end on my keys

I have one of these, I believe the 38, hooked to a small Keychain of tools in my go bag. It's like a p38, a whistle, a small flashlight, etc. I've used it just to learn how to use it. Pretty nice.

My dad has always carried a P38 on his key ring and I had picked one up many years ago and have had it on my keys since. It's come in handy when I've needed a prying tool and to turn a screw. Because I used to eat soup at work people would come to me for a can opener. I'd take it off my keys and hand it to them. Confusion ensued.

Have you seen the Eafengrow EF225 it’s a replica SMF strider was wondering if it was any good
@DocP91B
@DocP91B 3 года назад
I've messed with one. They are built ok, but Eafengrow got caught lying about the steel in their blades. The Eafengrow (and all the other clones you can get on Wish & Ali Express) are a lot heavier than a real SMF beacsue they aren't made of the same quality of materials and not as smooth at all.
@e4mafia578

@@DocP91B Thats a shame I really want a SMF Strider but I cant afford the price was hoping the Eafengrow was gonna be a good alternative

P-38 stands for 38 strokes or Perforation to open the sea rats. the larger one stands for the perforations to open the large tray rats. just saying

Wow! Where is that info? I've never found that!
@DocP91B
@DocP91B 3 года назад
By the way - it's "C" rats, not "sea" rats. Rations came in C, D, and K series.

No offense but I feel like if someone is in a desperate enough situation with a pile of canned foods and one of those can openers they'll probably figure it out...lol. 🤪

Why? How does that in any way effect the outcome of any video? You should leave more intelligent comments.
