This is absolutely the correct way to manage almost any sales process. As a logistic broker who has managed milllions of dollars in United States produce, this is 100% the way. Relationship first, always. Meetings win deals, and helps you focus on the deals that will close.

I've done an RFP for a non-clearance contract and it's a pain and they always chose the lowest bidder for labor expenses, but yeah you make a strong point at 12:33. The people I was working with clearly followed the "start at solicitation" advice and I ended up doing a lot of work for nothing.

This is a great video expect that you said it task 12-18 months to sell to the gov. if that's the case why are solicitations due in 2 weeks to 30 days.
@dodcontractacademy

Because the solicitation comes towards the end of the process. Keep in mind, the following does not apply to all purchases but a timeline for a federal contract might look like the following: Jan 2024 federal office has a requirement and funding March 2024 Federal acquisition office puts out a sources sought due in 30 days April 2024 SS are due, government reviews and meets with some companies over the next 4 months while writing the upcoming Request For Proposal that will come out on Sam Aug 2024 RFP comes out due in Sep Sep 2024 Proposal received Oct-Dec: Proposals reviewed and scored Jan 2024: Winner is announced Feb 2024: Purchase order signed by US government and contract begins

Great if you managed to do something that fast! low dollar products are a different ball game then what I am describing in this video. One possible way to go fast is with an agency that you are already on contract with or a rapidly fast sole source. For the most part, Even after you are told you won, it still can take up to and beyond 30 days to actually be put on contract. I ran a rapid acquisitions branch for the USAF and 23 days is the fastest we put someone officially on contract--after the competition took place! Also, you are leaving out the timelines: Below is an example: 1 May: Sources Sought released 1 June: Sources Sought Response due 1 Sep: Solicitation released 1 Oct: Proposal are due 60 day evaluation of proposals (and that's fast) Delay for holidays 15 Jan: Winners are announced (keep in mind, the winner is still not on contract, just informed that they won). 1 March: On contract. 1 April: You invoice the gov 1 June: Gov Pays you

12-18 months is insane!!!! $400k contract with 20% profit thats less than $60k a year, that is a horrible deal. I understand if you chase a $2-$3 million contract for 12-18mmonths while the other small ones are coming but your process is crazy long. All the steps make sense but the timeline is just not worth it. I am speaking as a contractor and I go through very similar thing most projects happen in 3-4 months some I wait 6-9 months but I constantly have smaller projects that keep me a float, also people its a horrible job and a position to be in. One year is great next year is so, so and then next two are horrible. That how it has been for me past 14 years in NYC.
@danialmoser2573
@danialmoser2573 3 месяца назад
For someone just breaking in, making 40 or 50k on a w2 job, this is a way to learn without being fully reliant on government contracts to literally eat. You contracting in New York is insane and mostly corrupt. Bribes, "dinners " at the strip club. That's crazy. NY is terrible to and for business.
@dodcontractacademy
@dodcontractacademy 3 месяца назад
This is exactly the right thinking. The information I'm seeing put out there is giving a the impression that govcon is a get rich quick scheme that can happen quickly. Now, one thing I will say is that the industry you're in will dictate what profit margins look like. If you're selling a saas product the profits are very high, If you're in services you need to collect multiple contracts. It's ALOT of work!!
@dvcoolpix
@dvcoolpix 3 месяца назад
Good luck with that I have no idea how you plan to accomplish that, I was on the other forum yesterday where the guy sent out 50 bids in the last 9 months and nothing. I am sure it's possible but it requires a lot of persistence, patience and luck. No way its a side gig where you can make $40-$50k a year! That is just a YT video clickbait to lure you in to buy their course.@@danialmoser2573

So, my question is do you have to be a business in that industry to middleman these contracts?
@dodcontractacademy
@dodcontractacademy 28 дней назад
There's no such thing as a middleman. You are either the prime contractor or a subcontractor. The only exception to that is if you are consulting or advising a business on government contracting. If you are the prime, meaning you find a contract opportunity, you find a business that can, solve whatever the problem is and then you write a proposal to a government you are the responsible for delivering the services products, etc. Not the company that you found. Very hard to do this not a good business model. I recommend if that's what you want to do, but you start a consulting or advising company instead. Here selling directly to a comp, that is interested in federal contracting they pay you upfront for your advisory services. For instance, they may pay you a monthly retainer of $3500 a month to find government contracting opportunities for them. If that's something you're interested or you want to learn more about the government contracting business go to the following wink and talk to one of our advisors and they will walk through the options with you. govclose.com/strategy-call

Anyways idk if you watch other gurus out there but I watch dr Wes fisher. He has a course like everyone else has. And videos but his method is being popularized by the term middleman. Also known as subcontracting. Government agency A needs item B subcontractor sees it on Sam.gov calls service provider gets a quote from them adds his profit on top and submit to government agency A for the approval or denial. Upon approval from government agency A Mr Wes will still manage the contract if he wins the contract and makes sure contractors get paid after receiving payment from government agency A. Is this legal or no? Please advise me on this as I am looking into getting into this route. Thank you

Yeah it’s legal as long as you abide by any limitations on subcontracting. I’m not a lawyer.

Totally legal. But there are, of course, legal limitations. Fraud does occur with middleman contracts. But if you're not being nefarious, it's a very legitimate way to win contracts.

Middleman is very misleading. Check out this short I made on it: ru-vid.comrWPE76EWfCQ?si=B4FOO8tg5d29mcz9

What questions do you recommend should be asked to the CO if you get a meeting after the sources sought has been submitted.

The drop down list for sources sought is not showing when I access the sam.gov website, where does this come from?

I am a small construction woman on business. Just wondering how I can contact other contractors out there experience and ask them that I can be a partner a small part of their contract. If it is has a woman owned or small business aside at this point I cannot be at a whole contract on my own , so SAM.gov, what are the search and how I search them and contact them ?

My recommendation: 1. Find a SS on sam for a job you can do part of. 2. Write up a response saying you are partnering with companies that have past performance. Possibly ask for a 15 minute call with the gov POC to discuss details of the job. 3. Use USA spending.gov to find companies with past performance in construction, with the agency you responded to. . 4. Reach out to those companies and tell them you are speaking with a fed agency about an upcoming project and you need a prime. Send that message to 5 companies and you should have no problems setting up a teaming agreement.
