Here is the playlist that will help you transfer with Smart Switch in every way possible. Let me know if you have further questions: Phone Data Transfer, Smart Switch, Backup Tutorials: ru-vid.com/group/PLPRhQEDGqsFDoSmfnuYCu0umY8ItKi__6
Due to security it is not Abel to transfer of over the sign in data. On the new phone there will be a feature called Samsung Pass. It will remember your saved accounts doe the next time you setup a new phone.
Thanks much for your VERY informative and professionally done video on the Samsung Smart Switch. It answered all of the questions I had including whether the micro-SD card had to be blank or whether it could contain previous data, to do a backup. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for this video! I just got my S9 plus today and the struggle was real when I just wanted my contacts to my new phone without entering them all individually.
Thanks for this video, I noticed I'm missing my memo app along with all my notes, and I'm getting the exclamation icon on a whole album section on the gallery. Not sure if these pictures are missing or what. Should I redo this procedure again? Btw I went from a Galaxy S7 to a Galaxy S10 Plus.
Thank you for this video. I have an old note 9 and a new one and as I am trying to follow your directions and nothing that you said in this video is working. It may just be me, but mine says I am connecting but the pictures of what to do is totally different from what you are constructing to do and I have to idea how to get a picture of my devices to you to maybe get a little more help from this very very helpful video here. My old phone says "CONNECTED TO GALAXY NOTE 9" AND THE NEW PHONE SAYS "CONNECTING TO BRING YOUR DATA .....) it also displays up in the right hand corner on both phones 1, 2, 3 and it is highlighted on number one. This is so confusing trying to do this alone. I did take to the Tmobile store yesterday for them to do it and when I picked it up they clerk did not do her job at all, and I told her how unhappy I was with the results of them failing to switch all my files over to the new phone. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to help the world out with this video.
I just subscribed. All tech reviewers who constantly post Samsung products, gains hundreds of thousands subscribers within months. Ive seen it time and time again
Such as me, I like that in the way I'm saving my recent data from automatic wipeout for a peppermint lost that I don't want to risk it for nothing. Which is why I'm protecting the Old Data from accidental missout because I don't want to lose everything. Thanks for the instructions as well with the video. It really helps 100% confidence.
At the END of your video you said to switch the sim card into the new phone BEFORE starting the smart switch. Do you think you could have put that at the beginning? My new phone is downloading all the information and I don't know if if will be wiped out when I put it the sim card. THANKS BRETT!
Ye, same here. Thought that info about swapping sim card should have come at the start. I heard it half way through the download and the download cannot be cancelled, once started
I would suggest watching an entire video before starting a multi-step procedure you're unfamiliar with/new to. :) But I definitely agree that it would help to put that info at the beginning.
When you do it wirelessly does it send every thing like stuff from your SD card. And another question if I do it the external storage way do I have to format my SD card as portable or just pop it out and just put it in my new phone
Than for your informative videos. I have 2 questions. 1, I signed into my Google account before transferring stuff and bingo!, Good automatically brought into my S10 all my apps plus the display seeings from my S7e. What happens now when I do all the Smart Switch stuff? Secondly, if I leave my micro ad in my S7e in place and insert a new micro SD inside my S10, will Smart Switch move the items on the S7e SD unto the new S10 SD? Thank you.
Hello Brett would you recommend using smart switch or using the backup restore option from samsung and google accounts. Thank you for the great tutorials appreciate you.
So Brett I have a question. Quite a few years ago I bought a new phone from best buy. I dreaded manually transferring all of my info from old phone to new one. The salesman that sold me the new phone said he could transfer all my old phone info to new phone in a matter of minutes just by attaching a cable between the 2 phones. This sounded great and I told him please do. Didn't really pay attention as to what he was actually tapping on the 2 phones but within 5 to 10 minutes it was complete. I did a quick check before we walked away to ensure transfer was complete and as far as I could tell all was there. Somewhere down the road I decided to purge my phone of old numbers I no longer needed as well as a few other things. No matter what I did I could not delete or get rid of anything that was transferred over from old phone,. Any new stuff that I added after transfer I could delete. It absolutely drove me crazy cause now I have a bunch of stuff on my phone that I don't use but can't get rid of. In my mind the info that got transferred became "HARDWIRED" to my new phone somehow. It was always there, taunting me as if to say "I'm always here whether you use me or not. " LOL !! Stay with me here I just had to give you some background info, I swear I'm not crazy!!. Since that time I think I have bought 2 new phones. Each time I decided to manually transfer all my info and other stuff. (What a long, pain in the butt process) Have you ever had this happen to you or know anyone that this has happened to? Im paranoid that if I do a wireless transfer I might be stuck with a bunch of info that I don't want or use anymore. I'm sure technology has improved since then. Anyways, sorry for the long drawn out story but that's my prior experience. I'm about to set up my new S10 and plan on doing the wireless transfer. Should I be worried or am I good? Love your videos, very informational and very well done, keep up the good work!!
I have 2 different Samsungs that have some duplicate and different data on them. Will it double the files or just replace the existing with the same if I use smart switch from both phones to my new phone. If that makes sense.
I am going to say that it will skip or merge duplicate content. If it does not it would be pretty easy to cleanup and if you are missing things the info will still be on your old devices.
Your videos are great, I really appreciate them. I upgraded from a cracked 3yo GS7 to a brand new GS7 (because the battery/display/camera on S10e - I prefer flat screens - wasn't any better 3 gen's later) so have freshly charged NIB S7 I'm about to attempt to transfer to. Should I just move SIM 1st n let it update the OS 1st before I do Smart Switch? I know it's gunna update to this godforsaken Oreo...
This app is great I actually used it to move the entire content of my ipod touch to my note 9 song lists, imported music and all, something I'm pretty sure I couldn't do b4 !!!
Do you perhaps know if images and voice messages of whatsapp get restored aswel? Like that you still can see the image on whatsapp without it being blurry? thanks in advance!
Couple of questions. Is smart switch available for Android tablets? If so, is there away to back up or make an image of a configured device and apply the image to multiple devices without rooting or debugging? Also want to do this on new tablets that have not been setup to the main start up menu. We configure thousands of devices by hand a day and want to just make an image and apply it to dozen of devices at once. We can do this with apple devices using apple configurator or Dep program. Haven’t figured away to do it with android.
I've used Smart Switch and it seems to work phone to phone. But I have one warning, Smart Switch for Mac is next to worthless, very buggy; it fails to back up my phone, it just seems to lock up when you start the backup. I tried it on a couple of different Macs with no luck My recommendation: Use Smart Switch, phone to phone, wirelessly, USB also works, but wireless is faster, especially if you're using 5GHz WiFi. If the phone to phone Smart Switch copy fails, then backup smartswitch to the SD Card on the old phone, I also just copy all the internal memory pictures to the DCIM folder SD card (no reason to waste internal storage on the new phone), then, remove the SD card (most people move it over to the new phone, but you can also copy it to your computer for safe keeping). Then restore from the SD on the new phone.
Hi thanks for the video it was very helpful I see a few smart switch apps in Google play store and I don't know which is the true Samsung that works with the Galaxy can you please post the link of the Samsung smart switch which will work with a Galaxy Thanks so much
What if I am backing up my phone and switching to another carrier? My thought is to do the backup on the old phone using usb storage and then with the new SIM card in the new phone once activated move the USB over to the new phone and do the transfer? I am hoping a carrier change won't effect anything?
Does this send the older phones network history to the new phone. Like, can if a network administrator looks at your new phone, can they see the history from the old phone as well?
I am getting my new Galaxy Note 9 just passed this weekend and I wonder how I should go about the SD card in my existing S7 Edge. Should I start the new Note 9 without neither simcard nor SD-card and transfer the data, or should I insert the SD card into the new Note 9 and backup the rest? The card is somewhat fragmented, ie. spotify is installed onboard the S7 Edge but the offline playlists and such are stored on the SD card. I have good WIfI at home so re-downloading stuff is no issue whatsoever.
With it having all that info stored on the SD card you might try playing it in the Note 9 first and then see if when you boot it up it shows up. If you have any other content like pictures or music you can transfer them to the Internal storage of the Note 9 with Smart Switch if you would like. I will have a full new tutorial hopefully coming tomorrow.
@@TechWithBrett Okey, thank you! I figure nothing wrong can happen either way, might just be that the Spotify offline library will be rendered mangled by the transfer, but no real biggy! As for the selling of the old phone, backup, encrypt and then factory reset and i should be good?
Does either phone need a SIM card installed in order to do this? If a SIM card is required, then assuming that I have only one working SIM card (since I am switching phones on the same carrier), should the transfer be done while the SIM card is in the old phone or do you do it after installing the SIM card in the new phone?
I have an old LG K371 phone with an SD card that contains my photos and some other data. Is Smart Switch smart enough to transfer the photos from the old phone's SIM card, and if so does it preserve their "album" structure in the new Samsung phone's Gallery app?
So the SIM is actually what holds your phone number and that can be moved before the transfer. The Micro SD Card is what holds photos and videos. If you keep it in the old phone Smart Switch does have the option to copy that info to your new phone without moving the card. If the new phone does have an SD Card slot you can move it to the new phone and then complete the transfer. I am not actually sure if it keeps the file structure but I believe it does.
@@TechWithBrett Actually I made a mistake and fixed it. I have a 32 GB SD card that holds my photos. The SIM card has nothing to do with any of my storage (that I know of).
Thanks, I'm still trying to figure out how to best make backups of everything I want, using the least amount of separate programs / apps. TWRP to backup Actual ROM / system..? Titanium backup for...apps I guess (I messed something up with titanium backup, but solved it, after much time)? Smart Switch? Device Control? What to use, what to use?
Hi good morning my name is ricardo i was just browsing through on RU-vid looking to see how to used Smart Switch on Android device i came across your video & i was trying to use Smart Switch on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 to my Samsung Galaxy j4+ phone i'm using this cable to hook up to my tablet & my phone (Micro USB to Micro USB OTG Cable, Male to Male) for some reason i'm not getting through with it i download Smart Switch from d playstore to my phone & i download Smart Switch from d playstore to my tablet i want to transfer files from my phone to my tablet don't know if u can assist me in any way u can thank u please stay safe & be safe out there 🙏🏼
Thanks Brett for the info. If I may ask a question.......When I used this app to move all of my info from my old S4 to my new S9 all went well except for pictures that were in with my text messages. Should it have moved them too?
Wow! Thanks Brett for not only responding....but in such a timely fashion too! I don't want to appear ungrateful or question your knowledge but I would like to ask one more thing. Have you ever validated pics in txts were transferred? The reason I ask is that I have not seen any video confirming it. Nor have I had any luck with Samsung (or AT&T).
Yes I have confirmed it works many times. In this video I believe I showed it off as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bOaOney1e1Y.html
Thanks again Brett. I just re-watched the video link you provided in the reply. I'm sure you have done many different ones, however the one you provided did not include the transfer of text messages so I did not see any validation of the pictures it may have contained. You had unchecked text msgs due to the size. Could it have been verified in a different video?
Brett - Just a quick follow up. Instead of using the cable I tried the wireless options like your video. I did a test to transfer only messages and limited it to the past 30 days. Pictures came across!!! I am now running my complete message folder (25,000). Thanks for your help. Wish me luck.
the big problem about smart switch is that it isn't secure in the least. in other words, if your device get lost or stolen and is somehow still unlocked, anyone can obtain all of your data
Can Samsung Smart Switch be used for an Android Moto Z Play to new Moto G7 migration? .... ie, where the receiving phone is not a Samsung, but a Motorola?
hey nice video.. what if your old phone screen is damage and the touch effect don't work ... can the smart switch still work using the usb connection ...???
The SIM is what moves your phone number to the new device so keep it in the new phone. If you moved a SD card over keep that in the new phone as well because it has has info from the old phone stored on it from the old phone you can now access on the new phone.
@@TechWithBrett Thanks, Brett. Actually, I spent about an hour on tech support with Sprint because the phone wouldn't work. Eventually, the SIM cards had to be switched back. I lost no data, all my info remained on the new phone, and now it works. I don't think this suggestion is helpful anymore. Just my 2 cents, and probably worth less. Thanks!
@@biscuit640 I think he was assuming your new phone didn't come with a SIM card (is why he told you to keep old one in your new phone). I sympathize because I'm on Sprint too and about to attempt all this on new GS7 I bought on Ebay. Am coming from 3yo cracked GS7 and I just love it so much the S10e wasn't worth the upgrade.
You will need to backup through Samsung Cloud or manually take all the info out of the secure folder and then transfer. I show you how to use Samsung Cloud at 5:50 in the following video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rU40GIiI4x0.html
Thank you, wondering if Authy or Google Authenticator ( which live in the secure folder) will be transferrable from cloud back-up. Do you have any knowledge about that?
I tried transfering my data from my iphone 6s to a s9 and it kept failing at 99%. I tried 4 times. after being so frustrated i just uninstalled smart switch and then reinstalled it. it worked like a charm after that. And if not id just try starting fresh each time. uninstall and reinstall until it works. hope this helps someone
Hello. Could you tell me if I can delete the huge Smartswitch files on my phone after I've transferred everything? I cannot find this info anywhere online. Thanks
What were you transfering from? I don't believe there is a way to ungroup them. You can try changing the settings in the messaging app to not send to all recipient when sending a group message. I would just create a new message thread.
When I do smart switch my messages come over but my wife's text are also under other people like it's a group text but all the messages are from her. This is my example
I am going crazy with smartswitch. I downloaded a load of videos onto my Samsung A42 phone. I then used Smartswitch to backup the files I saved to my phone... onto a microSD card in the phone... I then removed that microsd card and stuck it in a card reader and into a computer... the files are all there, with the right names and sizes, only they are named *.mp4_ instead of *.mp4 Whether or not I rename the .MP4_ files to .MP4 or not, when I try to play them... it says MISSING CODEC .... what is going on? are they encrypted? I thought I turned encryption off... How can I get those mp4 files I extracted from my cell phone to play on a computer with the micro sd card reader?
Sir, I mistakenly copied the homescreen wallpaper , app layouts lockscreen wallpaper of my old phone to new , so how can go back to previous homescreen ?? Please help 🙏
Hey, what app would I download to transfer my Samsung cloud to a Motorola phone? I have less than 2 days to get into my alt cloud account before Samsung deletes all of my data for not logging in...
If u insert an sd card in note 8/galaxy s9 can use it as internal storage? I hear it only lets u use it as portable storage and not let u download apps onto it....
I notice you didn't speak about Samsung Pay and how your accounts and award points would be transferred. Did you experience any issues with that process?
Just like in the video, I have an S7 and an S9, but my S7 screen does not work anymore, so I can't see anything on it, but the phone is actually on. Can I still use Smart Switch to transfer the information from the S7?
There are many apps in Google Play Store when searching for Smart Switch Mobile. Can you please share the exact name of the app you used? Who made the app?
I logged into my gmail account on my new phone (which does have Smart Switch), and my old phone (Samsung Galaxy 2) doesn't have Smart Switch, and I'm unable to download it from the Google Play Store. So, how do I transfer the old phone data to the new phone? Please advise.
I have problem after using Smart Switch. I can transfer data (by wifi) from old phone (Boost Mobile's Samsung J3 Emerge) to new phone (Metro's Samsung A20), but the wifi tethring not work after that. Other devices eg Samsung tablet A, keep saying "authentication error" even I set non password option.
Wanting to do a data cable transfer from my Samsung S4 to my brand new Note 8. The Note 8 already has a new Sim Card installed from the factory, all I did so far was charge the Note 8. So, do I still want to use the Sim Card from my Samsung S4 in the new Note 8 as suggested towards the end of the above video??? (even though everything is on Google Cloud I don't want to chance losing important photos, videos, texts and my contacts)
^^^ thanks for your suggestion, I believe I'll be taking both phones to my local Verizon store to perform what your explaining (so well) in your video. Here's what recently happened with my S4; because my S4 was not able to make/receive calls (no service available) in my fathers Nursing Home a Verizon Tier 3 Tech had me go to my local Verizon store to have a NEW Sim card installed which unfortunately made no difference. So, the Tech deemed the S4 defective and under my Ins they Verizon sent me a NEW Note 8. The Verizon rep at the store simply removed the 5 year old Sim card, installed the new Sim care, pressed some buttons and I still retained my same phone number. So, I'm a little confused as to why I should reuse the week old Sim Card in my S4 on my Note 8 that already has one installed > > > won't the rep at Verizon just repeat the same steps to retain my longtime Phone number?
Thanks for the details. If they have already swapped your SIM (meaning they already moved your number from the old SIM to the new one) then they won't need to do that again. You just put the SIM that is active with your phone number into your Note 8. You can just go ahead and complete the transfer and they may be willing to help you with that.
Thank you again...WOW...this devise is an entire new learning experience. While I knew my trusted S4 like the back of my hand I doubt I'll ever use 1/3rd of this devises capabilities. Learning as I go, I don't want the Note 8 to be bogged down by Games etc, and other running programs I'll never use. And what else surprised me (not sure if I can turn this feature off)...when I returned home my Note 8 automatically logged into my wifi! I would have rather typed it in myself...I don't want this device to automatically log in to every wifi to any place I visit. Keep up the great vids, I'll be checking out more of them.
Ray Josephs In the WiFi settings you can turn off the option to search for WiFi networks. Turn this off and then it will only connect to networks you have setup on your own. If I am trading in my old phone do I need to do a factory reset? How is that done? With COVID-19 sprint is rarely on there phones so how do I activate the new phone?
After you are sure you have everything k. Your new phone I would perform a factory reset to make sure none of your data is still on the old phone. To activate your new phone on Sprint, hopefully you have a new SIM that came with the phone, then it should prompt you on screen to activate the device. Of not your can login online or see if calling into support works. Activate the new devices before factory resetting the old one as well to make sure everything is working.
I US3 SMART SWITCH TO TRANSFER MY 500GB DATA INTO a Samsung - T7 Shield 2TB External USB 3.2 Gen 2 Rugged SSD IP65 Water Resistant - And it works amazingly and super fast
Can I transfer my sd card files and internal storage files from my 64gb sd card and 64gb internal storage in my S8PLUS to my new S10PLUS with a new 256gb sd card and 128gb internal. I would like to transfer everything to the 256 of possible or at least from internal to internal and sd to sd.
Which phone? You can try plugging it into a computer and using the Smart Switch program. Or if your phone supports it you could use a Samsung DeX dock to access those files.
@@TechWithBrett My phone is a Galaxy S7 and I can't transfer anything because it won't let me unlock the phone. I honestly don't know what it's called but for example let's say everything that gives a phone, light and color that part is broken. The phone does have a few cracks but it was working before and the last time I dropped my phone it just blacked out. I've tried doing all the tricks of restarting the phone so it could work but nothing has worked.
I had a SGs9 get completely obliterated and now waiting on a note 9. I’m completely screwed here. Are all my contacts, memes, texts, calendar points, etc. gone???
In the past I was able to get the cable connector to work and still transfer stuff but that might be rare. Try signing into your Google Account on the new phone to see if anything synced.
