Very little experience with them. They should work in pretty much the same way, but with less edit-ability if I'm not wrong. They should be just as accurate though!

Hmm, not sure. You can make your own textures using a program like crazybump or pixplant. They just require images like you suggested. Xrite scanners can create measured material types which can be read by KeyShot without any need to edit them. Vizoo also makes scanners. Maybe someone owns one of those and offers KeyShot material creation from scans. Not sure. There are options out there though.

Yes, sorry. This is a new feature for KeyShot 9. I'm not sure if it's a pro-only feature.

Hi, not really. 3D scanning equipment is quite expensive. Anyone who can create 3D scans is likely looking to make some money off of the scanning service. In my experience, 3D material scanning is typically a service offered to those who have budget for it and need highly accurate scans. Lots of automotive industries and companies needing fabric/textile materials are probably the biggest customers here.
