There was a time Firefox had Tab Groups out of the box build in. It was very sad that they removed that feature. I'll give simple tab groups a try. Thanks

@@wboumans It is garbage. The hiding of the open tabs, and other groups, when you open a group is a MAJOR inconvenience and workflow destroyer. The way it effects session restore is annoying AF.

They removed it because it broke in an update and they didn't know how to fix it. So, they trashed it. Surprisingly, no one has written an extension that can do this. There must be something in the code that makes it very difficult, or impossible, to do. IDK.

I don't know if you'll ever read this comment but I just wanna say, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I have ADHD and over the past couple of years had developed a serious tab hoarding problem. Ironically I had opened up two dozen tabs on extensions that can help me manage my tabs but I never actually got around to doing anything, again because of my ADHD. For the past three days I was looking at these tabs about extensions to manage tabs. I was stuck because of my analysis paralysis of deciding between this extension and tree style tab. Your video really helped to assuage my concerns and I finally got to organizing my tabs! So again, thank you so much dude! I organized about 3k of them last night and hopefully I'll finish them in a day or two. PS. You have a talent for RU-vid.

I'm a little behind but I just found out about Opera and China. I'm really surprised by how emotional this has been for me. I've changed browsers many times over the years but always by choice. Tab groups (not those stupid workspaces) were just added and I was really getting into it. Thanks so much for this video.

thank you for making this video! I just switched to firefox and also was used to tabs in chrome, and was having problems with the extension. Is good to have people who understand about computers to explain it kjskdjsk

i accidentally opened 2 actual windows when i go to close one it says if i want to close the 25 hidden tabs but they are all in a group so im confuses as there is 1 tab but its like it thinks im open in another group? how do i fix this issue?

you can right click on the book mark thing and choose "customize ...." and put the book marks between the forword backword arow thing and the url bar then hide the book mark bar and you still have it without the space they take

I have a problem with this - if I install this the first time then I have like 100 tabs open. Let´s say I take YT videos and create a new group and add them there, like "RU-vid" . When I open this group then I see it. BUT where are all the other tabs I had open in the default window?! I see no option going back there. Do I really have to group all the tabs separately?

I’ve been using the tab stash extension to do something similar to store tabs when I want them later but don’t want to just keep them open or bookmark them

if you close and open the browser , the only tabs that used resources is the opens that is loaded, and that is the opens you move to/click on, you can have more then 10000+ tabs "open" but if you can move over them it is ok, AND yes, i need to clean out my tabs, love the old day where you can bookmark all open tabs in firefox, but they remove that too

Tab Groups is basically the same idea as Workspaces/Groups on a Tiling Window Manager.

May I suggest you consider using "chapters" within your videos. That way, those of us in a hurry can simply skip to the relevant bit? Thanks for your useful videos. Do keep them coming.

I agree that its functionality is useful and maybe even better than Chrome's tab grouping, but the usability is far less good than Chrome's. In Chrome I see the all groups immediately and I can switch faster, I even can open two or more groups at the same time and can compare or switch again much faster.

I’m using Firefox with tree style tab and I always have over 100 tabs open sometimes in multiple windows. I think I’m gonna add this too

i think i have over a 1000 non archived tabs with group tabs xd i have an extension that unloads things from memory so it doesn't hog too much, and i think tab groups might do it by default as well. I really like the extention and it's actually something that could prevent me going to brave, since it doesn't have this extention, but i still wish chrome style groups were also a thing on firefox, it'd be even more convenient together with simple tab groups

My personal favorite extension for tab grouping is Tab Stash it basically answers all my needs and expectations and it's a good alternative to Simple Tab Groups. The workflow is slightly different between the two but that's what attracted me to Tab Stash. (not related to the extension btw)

How did you get the right click menu to show an entry ?, I need to manually set the tabs. Oh nevermind you need to click on the tab no the top, not anywhere on the tab.

what are the icons to the left of your first tab? I thought it was going to be like a super tab, but its pretty interesting how it works. Working on getting my web browsing more clean versus rummaging through 2 browsers and multiple virtual desktops lol

Simple tab groups are really limited, i wish i could see the groups on the top.

I always was a tab hoarder, but after vivaldi.. I can't anymore, however I don't want to go back to chrome based. The ones I found were crap, hope this one works

@@TheLinuxCast I'm not sure we are speaking about the same I'm searching for the possibility when I'm in a Tab Group to Switch back to all ungrouped Tabs and then a again to some other Tab group and back again to all ungrouped Tabs and so on ... as I would/can switch betwen Tab Groups. like the ungrouped Tabs act as an Group... oh and thank you that you reply so fast

I think I understand now. I've looked and there doesn't seem to be a way to see all tabs ungrouped or grouped and then go back to everything being grouped. However, in the upper right hand corner, you see a downward pointing arrow? Click on that, and then click Hidden Tabs and that will show you all the tabs not in the group you're viewing. May not be the best solution, but it might help you out.

i have it installed but there's no point to it because it doesn't hide the grouped tabs from view.....really struggling to understand why someone would create something so useless

It hides open tabs and other groups. It makes going back and forth between two different tabs in two different groups a complete nightmare. Getting research done like this is completely unacceptable. The extension gets a Giant Z E R O ----------------------- 0 ------------------- .

yeah, you're not using it right. There are keybindings for the things you say are a nightmare, and you can customize those to go to specific groups if you want. And of course it hides tabs from other groups, that's what makes it good, tbh. The way other browsers do groups where they're all on the same level, is messy af, imho. But Firefox has other group plugins, so you might try one of those. My work flow isn't for everyone, after all.

@@TheLinuxCast I just couldn't do it. The way the groups work in Chrome, as much as I dislike Chrome based browsers, is exactly what I need. If firefox had that, it would be my flagship browser.

I don't know if it's an issue with version differences because of this "rapid release" jive that's been going on over at Mozilla, but the extension is buggy as hell and barely works.
