I have used this tester since the early 90s still going strong and I even tested it against a lab Rockwell tester and it converted and matched up well. Much faster and easer to use than a lee tester. Verrel Smith at Lbt is still making these as well as some of the best casting molds money can buy.

That looks awesome. I read they are by far the easiest, i see that looks very true. I have emailed lbt about getting one and got no reply yet, its been 5 days. Not that i am in that big of a hurry, but one just came up on ebay today. It looks new or very well cared for. Price was the same. I just bought it. Hope to be using it in a week.

I have been reloading for years, never cast bullets. I cast my own fishing weights. Hardness is irrelevant there. With reloading components hard to get i figured i just as well start casting bullets. I already have a few molds i got on an auction. Ordered a few more as well as a #4 buckshot mold. Got the lyman cast bullet handbook, been reading that in my spare time. I should be making my own in a few weeks. Found an old "solder pot" 1000w with cast iron pot. The lbt tester should be the last piece i need, for now anyway.

As I recall, when I bought mine, the response time was a little slow too Colin. Hopefully the second-hand one you bought is in good order. Personally, I'm happier having one straight from LBT because, before they leave their shop, each one is carefully calibrated for accurate read-outs. Because it's based on a spring-back operation, I think that's important, so I am very careful when storing mine, so it never get dropped or bumped around. Hopefully the one you get has been properly handled, to not throw it out. Good luck getting into bullet casting! I think you'll find it a very enjoyable hobby. You might encounter a few issues at first, so be patient and ask around on the net for help if you need to. I have quite a bit of bullet casting content on this channel as well, just for that reason.

@@TheWaytoNativeChronicles yeah i will test it thoroughly with known hardness alloy to make sure. From the design, unless it is damaged and something got bent, then it should never get out of calibration and last a lifetime. Seller description says "perfect condition" so if its not in working order then ebay buyer protection has me covered. I have pure lead and 50/50 solder i can weigh accurately and make a few alloys to test, that should be very predictable hardness immediately as well as aged, and water cooled.
