How to Use Touch Up Paint on any Vehicle

To avoid putting a puddle of paint like he did with the brush at the end, you want to shake up the bottle, slowly pull out the brush WHILE moving your hand in a circular motion so that the surface of the brush touches the neck of the bottle, and excess paint is drained back into the bottle. As you pull out the bristles of the brush, you want to make sure one side of the tip of the brush is gently pressed against the neck of the bottle to empty more excess paint back into the bottle. You want just a small drop of paint on one side of the brush so that you can easily apply and control the paint. Remember its wayyy easier to grab more paint and apply another coat than to clean a puddle of paint from your car. Every time you dip the brush back into the bottle for more paint, repeat the swirling motion and again press one side of the tip of the brush against the neck of the bottle as you pull it out to empty excess paint. You only want a small drop of paint. With that small drop of paint, apply an even thin coat and allow to dry for 5 minutes between each coat. Apply as many even thin coats as you need. The result will look better and last longer with 2 - 5 even thin coats compared to one thick puddle of paint. For those with shaky hands that tend to smear too much onto surrounding areas: when applying the paint to the car, turn your left hand into a fist, and place it underneath your right hand. Then, extend your left index and middle finger. Rest the tip of your right pinky finger slightly on the tip of your left index finger. This establishes an anchor for more stability and precision for your application. You can move and rotate your right hand freely, as long as the tip of your right pinky finger is resting on the tip of your left index finger there is a noticeable difference in stability. This is the professional method used at nail salons for grabbing just enough nail polish, enhancing precision of the paint application, while eliminating instability and shakiness that causes smearing.

It's good always wipe down paint with rubbing alcohol to remove wax or cominents. Once touch up is applied, I use a super thin plastic card to remove excess paint and let dry.. it end up even with factory paint depth. Easy as 1 2 3

Did not know you could use it on one the size of that last one. Do you have to do anything to those when the paint dries. I heard you mention wet sanding that larger one. Is it possible to thin out the paint a little? I got a little 2 fl oz bottle of color match paint, but it's been unused for almost a year and when I tried to apply it to a gouge it was really thick like syrup kinda and dried way too fast. Is it possible to thin it out a bit so that it will flow better and not leave half dried nail polish texture?

I bought a pen already mixed to my car's code and tried to apply it. Even though it is a fine pen, it leaves like a bubble of paint. I came here hoping to see a tip on how you address that and I thought wet sanding afterwards might be the answer. Just a shame there is no demonstration of that, as leaving it before doing that is a half arsed job in my opinion.

This is why I don't use these pens any more. Yes, it will cover your chips but it definitely leaves either a bump of paint or a valley after it dries. The only way to really get it to look good is to wet sand it and then spray a clear coat but if you are going to do that then might as well sand back and spray the color coat as well.

Dot caaaaarrrrm. Jesus, if that's a paint repair company I don't think I'd take my car there. He gets a brush and creates a huge mound of paint on a small chip. If that's his idea of a thin coat I'd hate to see him paint a car, he'd probably use a 12" painters lambs wool roller!
