The trouble with looking at the sites you show is that I spend hours admiring the artwork and forget why I'm there. Thank you for sharing I really do enjoy them.

Last week I downloaded 80 some vintage Christmas cards from NYPL's collection. I'm working on restoring them (removing crease lines, smudged areas, or filling areas where the artwork had been worn/peeled away) to have them ready for the coming Christmas season. After that I adjust levels, curves, and color saturation/vibrance to bring back faded colors. Love the artwork from near the beginning of the 20th Centurty. Again a great video.
I have a question: After Lowe Llaguna has restored these images and is using them commercially, will he hold copyright to them? In other words, if we the use the same images - not knowing which ones he used - will we be guilty???
@@mariaetheridge8343I would hazard a guess and say that he would have to have changed them substantially from the original in order for the copyright to stick. Cleaning them up I don’t believe would be sufficient.

What would you do to these to use as digital downloads, like for a digital picture frame? Would you have to upscale them or anything? I know you said you can remove backgrounds, but I was just wondering if you would have to do a lot for using them a digital downloads, not necessarily for print or whatever.
Yes you could definitely sell these as digital downloads - the challenge with public domain stuff is that anyone could just find the source material and grab it for free. So if you want to sell these as digital downloads you certainly can, but I would recommend doing something to the files (manipulating them in some way, cleaning them up, creating something, etc) to provide value (to give the customer a reason to pay money for get an otherwise free image).
Hey there - I will always recommend changing the design in some way (adding to it, changing the color, background, etc) - that way you are the owner of the image and have created original art! - Zen
