@@adamjanek3511 best thing I ever did changing to this razor dude. I have had razor burn occasionally but that has been greatly reduced, and generally only happened if I went over the area more than once/applied too much pressure. Best thing to do is follow the grain of your hair and try to only go over the area once in small strokes with this. For instance the hair on my adams apple grows upwards until I get about half way up my neck and it goes in the opposite direction. Buy yourself Grüum danne soothing shave gel I found this paired with it well and was kind to my skin. You will be a changed man after using this for a few weeks I promise! A video with this much information in less than 3 minutes! Bravo. Worth noting, your blades will last longer with the short strokes directed at the base of the hair, not dragging over the top of it which makes for a lot of cutting and re-cutting. Feather brand razor blades are high quality and very sharp, great for coarse and or thick hair. Just be careful around bumps and angles till it’s a little dulled from use. I get about 4-5 shaves from one blade.

@Jacob-ry3lu

+Lemuel Rubio i think what he means is that you are supposed to lather up the cream in general. The man in the video uses a slightly damp (it actually looks bone dry) brush and dips it in cream and then lightly swirls it onto his dry face. Major no no. He shouldve had a wet face and a wet brush and worked the cream into his face so that it built up a creamy and dense lather. His lather looked like dry toothpaste

Fairly simple. Just spent another $60 on razor heads for my 5 blade and first time with a fresh blade and I have all of these other steps covered already and still get razor burn... 5 blades is cutting to much away and getting my skin. Going to give a 1 blade a try like this means investing but I have a feeling that this will reduce the risk of cuts. Just have to master the manual movement more.

I've used a Hydro 5 for almost a decade now, too stubborn to switch to anything else even though the blades are expensive and seem to clog easily. I finally tried this razor out today (with a fair bit of stubble grown in) and it seemed to do the trick decently enough. Only time will tell if I really like it, but it seems fairly intuitive. I used it with regular aerosol shaving cream but am open to trying out some possible better suited alternatives.
@burns0100
@burns0100 4 года назад
@@kylegusek I've made the switch. Using a Edwin Jagger DE89 now with Astra SP blades. Much much better shave, smooth, easy and not a single cut or bump. Just picked up a fairly cheap boar brush and stainless steel bowl and I use Prorosa soap/cream and find they do the job for a fairly cheap price. They are far from the best but beat out all your supermarket stuff by a mile. I actually enjoy shaving now, where as before with disposable razors, even the so called best of the best just didn't cut it or in fact did... but me... lol. Also once you get your set up and find products you like the overall cost becomes almost nothing. 100 pack of blades for $15 and soap that you can find online for $10 and that will last you a while. Ends up being about 80% cheaper at least for me. Sorry to babble on but it changed my life so now I want to help others.

..."or you'll remove the top layer of skin." That's encouraging. lol I'm learning how to shave with disposable razors again. I've been using shave oil combined with shaving cream. I'm still battling ingrown hairs, as I have curly hair in my beard. Is it recommended to shave only with the grain until my face gets use to it? I'm currently doing 3 passes: with, against and across the grain.
@Jacob-ry3lu
@Jacob-ry3lu 8 лет назад
Honestly, it is WAY easier to cut yourself or irritate your skin with a disposable razor. When he says you will remove the top layer of your skin, its not what you think it means. Razor burn is caused primarily from the razor blade putting too much friction on the skin and scraping off the thin epidermal layer of skin.
@DRock6906
@DRock6906 6 лет назад
I ran across this video and thought I'd give you some advice. I had BAAAD razor bumps years ago due to shaving incorrectly and with disposable blades. Until you "train" your beard, shave downward once with the grain, and then once across the grain and you will see a great improvement with your face. I normally shave every other day. I use Proraso Green, a Badger brush, and Personna blades. I shave one time downward over my entire face, once upward, and then a "clean up" pass across the grain to get any hairs I might have missed. You should never and I repeat NEVER shave with Mach 3's, or any razor with 4 or 5 blades! Each blade cuts the hair closer and closer. So if you do 2 passes with a Mach 3, it's like shaving your face 6 times. Sure it feels nice and smooth but the hairs are shaved beneath your skin. And if you have curly hair, that's a recipe for razor bumps like you've never seen! Doing 2 passes with a DE razor, the hairs are cut extremely close but not beneath your skin. The hairs don't have a chance to grow back into your face and you minimize your chances of getting razor bumps. Hope this helped my brother.

I’m 18 yo and I used it for my first ever shave. Very smooth and very comfortable. I didn’t feel the blade. I also didn’t get no bumps, cuts, burns, or anything. You must be going too fast or you’re using the wrong lather / setup.

The key with a safety razor is not pressing against the skin like you do with a cartridge razor since a safety razor is heavier you let the weight of the razor do the work

okay, i just made the switch. I've shaved twice now with my safety razor. the shave is close, but I'm butchering my face. cutting it up like mad. what am I doing wrong? wrong angle?
@Dwaynerade
@Dwaynerade Год назад
Not sure if this is too late of a response but there's a few things that could help with cuts. first, make sure you use a pre-shave oil or a slick tube shaving cream as a base. Safety razors require a lot of lubricant to glide effortlessly. this is why traditional shaving creams applied with a brush are popular; they have a high fat content and provide a slick medium to run a razors over. if you don't want to go through the trouble of a brush and shave soap, then apply a layer of tube shaving cream followed by whatever you normally use. don't apply any pressure to your razor. Use a sharp blade, make sure it sits in the razor straight with the same blade exposure on both sides, and shave with the grain of your beard using short strokes. Rinse your face off, reapply your creams and shave perpendicular to your hair growth. for me this is from the ears towards the nose on both sides. rinse, reapply creams and shave against the grain if you want a super close shave. Avoid going against the grain on your neck if you're prone to irritation there. end with a rinse, alum block, and an aftershave without alcohol. you're good. keep it up.

@@Dwaynerade Thanks for the response. It's been almost a year now and I've really gotten the hang of it. It was just beginner's growing pains haha. I was using Williams shave soap for a long time but it started to irritate my skin so I switched to modern shave gel and have found that it works better with my face, surprisingly. I've gotten that angle figured out and barely get any cuts at all anymore. Usually just a knick or two, which one little poke with a steptic pen and they're taken care of.

I tried using a safety razor for a while and thought it was pretty cool because I really like old fashioned things, but it just doesn’t do as good a job. I like a very close, clean, shave, to get that with one of these you have to go back over the skin multiple times. With a cartridge razor with multiple blades the job is much faster and cleaner.
@corycg9624

It’s not about how many blades it’s about how sharp the blade is using multiple blades on your face is really bad for your skin

you didn’t point out that the blade height on a safety razor such as the one in the vid is adjustable. Learning optimum blade height is important as well.

Very 'Useful' since I've recently decided to give up "cartridge" shaving to save some cash. Plus after having meaningful discussions w/a co-worker (and Nurse.....) that ALSO shaves his "Dome". I also decided to go back to the "Safety" style shave, because it's the way I did it when I first entered the ARMY in '75.......w/a Gillette; Double-edged "BATTLE AXE" Adjustable!!!! "AATW!!!!"

Do I really have to do similar shit shaving my head? That's an awful lot of back and forth. Are double edged safety razors less likely to slice the shit out of you? I tried a straight cut last night and sliced my head open about a dozen times before giving up.

@@riner9 what's with the cuss words, was i rude to you in the discourse? You must have a neckline like a double pepperoni pizza. Ask any established barber of repute: there are 6 directional sections on the neckline alone, 6 on the cheeks and chin, 2 on the lip. Everyone's grain is different, but there are generic patterns that might be applicable to an individual. Just because you do it one way, doesn't make it gospel. Stupid twat.
