Pro tip: 1:27 you can also use a strong small magnet to find stud nails as well. Stud nails are typically nailed in the center of the stud. To be sure you're on point. You can use the finder in conjunction with a magnet. You should be able to find a small level with strong magnet's inside so that you can find the studs and make your mark at the same time. Just a tip from your friendly neighborhood cable guy.

@Jared M Exterior walls yes, in most areas of the United States. Interior walls are commonly becoming 24" OC. Anytime I have items that need to be mounted to a wall closer together than the studs allow, I span some kind of wood across the studs, then mount the items to the wood exactly where desired.

Thank you for the comment and #150 sub, I do appreciate all of them. Working on production value is my goal for 2018. It's a lot of work for sure, but it's fun and interesting. I did months of research before I started, naturally by watching lots of youtube videos on how to get started :) Some channels to check out are: Roberto Blake, Derral Eves, and Video Influencers. I think all of them in the end give just one major point of advice, which is "just start". I'm always happy to help others starting out. Message me if you have any questions. I'm doing my first collab in the coming months too! Thanks for watching.

Hey man. Good video, just catching it 3 years late. I'm looking at doing a triple monitor or dual monitor setup with the same mounts as you. How do you go about figuring out how far apart the mounts should be? If I just stick them on the 3 studs regardless of the monitors will it turn out fine? Just want to make sure that they will all sit nice and pretty side by side. Cheers

I k ow this was made over a year ago but I thought I’d ask by the off chance I get a response. I have 3 27in monitors, I have 3 evenly spaced studs but they are a bit closer together than yours. If I bought the same exact mounts that you used in the video, would I be able to adjust the monitors further apart, or would that make a gap between them?
@NewYears1978
@NewYears1978 2 года назад
I did my wall mounts this way and I would recommend if you can NEVER USE MULTIPLE WALL Mounts. It's very hard to get them perfectly level and lined up so then when you pull out the monitors they are never quite right. I would get one of the 3 in 1 mounts instead. I am still trying to find a good solution. Mine works..but if I have to move the monitors it is very hard to get them lined back up right. (very slight mislevel on one of the mounts messes the whole thing up. You can actually see this very thing in this video. It looks great but you can see how they don't line up 100% perfect.

Is it possible to mount 3 more screen on the same wall studs as the other 3 screen on top ?
@IlluminatedNerd

Yes sure, to do 6 screens. As long as you leave enough height between your bottom and top row so that they all fit nicely. I would leave one full screens height between the bottom and top plates that you screw into the wall.

I don't get how far apart to put the wall mounts?
@Jimboyrulez
@Jimboyrulez 5 лет назад
hey man... i really liked your video. i am in the process of doing something similar. i don't have 3 studs at equal distance. but that's ok as i can use anchors in the drywall as those anchors can take 100lbs. but the question is how far apart to make the holes. i have 27inch monitors. now in theory i can make the mounts sit 27 inches apart from each other but since you are the expert i thought of asking you. watching the cable management video next.
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 5 лет назад
You could layout the wall-mounts and monitors on the floor to simulate your final layout... that would help measure your ideal distance between the mounts before putting them on the wall. Drywall anchors should be fine as newer monitors are not that heavy. Another option is to put a long board horizontally on the wall fastened to a few studs. Then you fasten the wall-mounts to the board itself wherever you need. Hope that helps, thanks for watching.

Would this still work with 27" Monitors? At what point would the mounts no longer reach to have all 3 touch? Perhaps any size would work.
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 5 лет назад
Yes, any size should work. The part that could change based on monitor size is whether it makes sense to attach the mounts directly to the studs as I did, or to put a supporting beam across the 3 studs and attach your left & right mounts to the support beam slightly closer to the center mount. If you have mounts with very long reach (as I do) then that is less relevant of an issue.

@@IlluminatedNerd Hi Nerd! lol I had a question relating to this. I have a 27" main monitor and two 19" square monitors on each side. If i follow these instructions and use the same mounts, will they line up? I'm concerned the mount arm wouldn't reach/line up perfectly because they are different sized monitors! Thanks for your time. Great channel.
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 5 лет назад
Yeah it should work fine... just take into consideration that you may need a support beam (I would do like 2 1x6 boards slapped together to make a 2x6) to attach the wall-mounts to instead of using the 3 wall studs. The studs worked out for my large 32 inch monitors, but of course they needed more space between each monitor. If you put a 2x6 on the wall that spans 3 studs, then you can attach the two side monitor mounts to the beam slightly closer to the middle mount instead of relying on the studs that may be a little too wide to make the 19s line up with the center. It absolutely will work, it's just a matter of adjusting the location of your mounts on the wall. I would lay them all out on the floor first to get a visual, that should make things clearer before you do any holes. Hope that makes sense :)
@dakuproductions519
@dakuproductions519 5 лет назад
@@IlluminatedNerd that makes total sense! I can't seem to find the dimensions of the wall bracket on these. Are they longer than 12 inches? I would love to just have 1 1x6 board on the wall instead of 2x6! EDIT: I don't work with wood. I am confused by the dimensions of the wood you suggested. lol
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 5 лет назад
@@dakuproductions519 The bracket is 11 1/2 inches of height with the bracket cover on (to hide the bolts), and 10 inches without the cover. I actually meant to glue two boards together so that it's thicker (2 inches thick). The bolt is meant to go into a stud, so it's a couple inches. Now that you mention it, with the height of the bracket, you'd need two 6 inch boards of height. You can probably find something that's already 10 or 12 inches wide at the lumber store. I'm sure you could get away with only one board thick (1 inch), but of course part of the bolt will end up in the wall. Maybe that's ok with you and one board is fine. Hope that makes sense.

Can somebody help me out please? I was wondering if I can use 3 1080p 75hz monitors by just using my gaming laptop? I have the Acer Nitro 5 Intel Core i5-7300HQ, GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, 15.6" Full HD, 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD. If I can what would I need to make it work?
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 6 лет назад
Hello! That's a tough one... looking up the specs of that laptop, you don't have a "DisplayPort" output. That would have made things easy as monitors can be daisy-chained through displayport. You have an HDMI Port though, one USB 3.0 port (the blue one) and a USB-C as well apparently. You should be able to do this: one monitor via the HDMI Port, a USB 3.0 to HDMI Adapter to connect the 2nd monitor via the USB 3.0 port, and a USB-C to HDMI Adapter to connect the 3rd monitor. With that being said, a 1050 Ti won't play every game triple screen at fantastic speeds (might need to play on "low-medium" depending on the title), but you can certainly have three screens for productivity reasons like I do. I have a reference screen on the left, my email/social media on my right screen, and my main work/play screen in the middle. Hope that helps, thanks for watching. Hey great video, I just have a question I have 2 27 inch monitors and 1 25 inch so I was going to put the 25inch in the middle. Doing this I know just move the middle monitor up 1 inch from the bottom line but the visa mount on my 27 inch monitors are lower then they are on my 25 inch which has the visa mount right in the middle. Any suggestions? I know this might be a little confusing
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 4 года назад
1. Line up the 3 monitors on the floor with the arm-mounts attached loosely but also pressed against the wall to emulate the final position of each arm. This will give you the correct location of the 3 arms for the "width". Mark the location of the mounts on the wall by using a yard-stick or measuring tape so you can run a line up the wall to your intended height of the left/right monitors. As for the final "height" of each, you could start by attaching the left & right arm-mounts first as they would be equal. Then slide the middle one in by itself until it lines up with the other two. If you have 3 people that can hold the arms while you're attaching, all of that was not necessary... but if you're trying to do it yourself, those instructions should help split it into steps you can manage and get the correct final fit for all 3. Hope that helps.

Hey boss what happens if your using 27 inch monitors
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 4 года назад
They may not line-up as well using smaller monitors directly on each stud. Instead of putting the wall-mounts in the studs, I would cut & attach a couple 1x6x10 (so that you have 2 inches thick) to the wall. I would then you attach your wall-mounts to that board a little closer together so that your three screens are able to line-up straight or do your wanted angles. The longer the arm reach of your wall-mounts, the further apart you could place them on the wall to achieve your ideal triple screen monitor layout. Put your three monitors and the board on the floor (against the wall) in advanced and try to emulate your setup to determine how far apart the wall-mounts should be before drilling the wall-mounts to the board on the wall. Hope that helps.

Can to have these pulled out and all still be aligned ?
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 6 лет назад
With 32 inch monitors, there's not much room to pull them out and keep them perfectly aligned. I figure with smaller (24-29 inch) monitors, it would be easier with the extra room between them. With longer reach arms it would be doable with the larger monitors. I'd like to put a 4k monitor as my center monitor and do a "pyramid" (two bottom, one center top) setup. I find the extreme left and right of my monitors hard to see with my current setup. I'll make a video with the new longer arm as I have one being shipped now.
@knoslo2058
@knoslo2058 6 лет назад
@@IlluminatedNerd that's good to know I currently have 1 32" 4k and I'm trying to decide on how I want to set up 2 more. I don't do any gaming where 3 monitors would be needed. My choices are 3 32" landscape. 1 32" and. 2 27" landscape. Ive never heard of doing it pyramid style but that sounds like it may be a better option. Thoughts?
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 6 лет назад
Yeah I don't do any multi-screen gaming either, not since the vanilla WoW days. I figure the middle 4k screen is for gaming. When I'm not gaming, I plan on pushing the screen up and bringing my two side screens in to form a pyramid. The 4k screen would then be used for netflix & adobe premiere video previews, while the two 1080p screens are my main coding/web browsing/emailing screens. When I want to game, I would then push the side monitors out and bring the 4k monitor down center-middle for gaming. I am curious if flipping the side screens would work well. If my side arms rotated I would try it, but they do not. This is the middle arm I'm waiting on, will let you know how it turns out - www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00BCA41C0

Hi sir ! I LOVE your videos. Iplan to buy the desk and top and the capita legs just like you did ! Seriously, thanks alot. I have a little question concerning my monitors setup. I will have a 32inch monitor in the middle, just like you, and I also plan to put my actual 24inch on the left side, flipped to the vertical. (I like that to scroll on facebook or for Discord)... Will it look good you think ? I'm afraaaaid
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 5 лет назад
If you flip the 24 inch and the "height" of the flipped monitor is the same height of the 32 inch monitor in the middle, then it should look perfect. You don't have to put them side by side... your side monitor could be a little more detached if they're not identical. If your monitors are going *on* the desk, consider "IKEA Olov" leg(s) as support in the middle. They're adjustable legs. Here's a video where I install some on my desk I build systems on (identical desk). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SnPMYzEoViw.html

Can i wallmount any monitor?
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 5 лет назад
Most likely YES. Two ways: 1 - With VESA mount holes on the rear of the monitor, you can just buy any VESA compatible monitor arm (as I've shown and linked to in my video). 2 - If your monitor doesn't have VESA mounting holes, you'd want to use a 'clamp' that adds a VESA mount like this: www.amazon.ca/Boost-FP-1-Universal-Non-VESA-ViewSonic/dp/B01MG8NVN2

I wish it was that easy. 3 different sets of wall mounts, loads of holes in wall and still no monitors on wall. Still can’t work out what I’m doing wrong
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 5 лет назад
There's 3 factors in play... the length of the wall-mounts, the rotation angles possible with your mount, and the size of your monitors. My setup worked but you may need to do something different based on your monitors chosen. Here's a different approach/suggestion: Get a large board to put on the wall that spans 3 studs. It should be tall enough for your wall-mounts to screw into, and deep enough for the wall-mount screws. You're going to attach your mounts to that board, instead of the studs. This gives you the flexibility of putting your wall-mounts anywhere along the board so that your side monitors can be slightly turned in per your liking, instead of being forced to have wall-mount arms long enough to reach from each stud. I would test the setup by placing all of my monitors and wall-mounts on the floor, with the monitors attached to the wall-mounts. I would then lay them out in and rotate the wall-mount arms & monitors to test the angle you want. If you grab your board and place it against the 3 mounts on the floor... that should give you an opportunity to mark where you'd want to attach your wall-mounts to the board. Then you attach the board to the wall... and then your wall-mounts to that, and finally your monitors. I believe that approach should be more successful for more random monitor & wall-mount sizes. I may redo the video in the future with this method :)

whats a stud.. what do you mean by that
@IlluminatedNerd
@IlluminatedNerd 4 года назад
There should be a 2x4 every 16 inches behind the wall. That's referred to as a "stud". The bolts of the wall-mount attach to the stud in the wall so that it's solid. Note: electrical sockets and light switches are usually attached to a stud from the right or left side, so that gives you an idea where you have one stud. The "stud finders" will beep when it passes over a stud in the wall, so that helps you figure out where to put your wall amount plate.
