I love that you explain on a base level. Stuff like "put 4 dots on the pad" and "start on 2 and then go to 4 when doing the pattern". That stuff really helps getting a grip on things for a newbie. Thanks a heap mate! /Robert in Sweden

That rust remover has been my go to for over 10yrs. The biggest thing is that it removes the staining from tannic acid you get from river water, not just rust staining. Just needs to be applied with a good mist so you get coverage

I'm a Private boat owner who enjoy your vids! It would be great to have a spread sheet type video of sorts that showed the different steps for Gelcoat in various conditions - little or no oxidation, light oxidation, heavy oxidation, perhaps for both white and colored finishes. Perhaps it could include the various products and equipment as well as recommendations for maintenance. I have a relatively new boat w/little or no oxidation and i'm overwhelmed by different approaches and since it's a rather large sailing catamaran w/expanses of gelcoat, I don't want to waste my time w/incorrect or unnecessary steps.

Thank you ! ... love your video because you're not trying to flog some miracle product that'll last for years and requires no effort to put on... Ive been waxing boats for over 15 years and there's no substitute for good surface prep, machine application and then hand wipe off ... I leave my wax to dry over night which is probably not necessary - but it would be interesting to know just how long it takes for the wax to totally harden ? ...guess it depends on temp, humid , brand etc .. anyway - thumbs-up from Australia mate !!

Great video. Quick question, I just bought a bought that sat for a year plus. Has a 12" red strip down the side that is faded. I followed your video, but the red is still a bit faded (white). It does seem to look better, but as it dries out, it gets white(ish) again. Is there a solution to make that red look new again? Repeat the steps until it looks good, or is there another step or product? Thanks!

Hey bro! So just “waxing” your boat alone will not help get rid of oxidation. To remove the oxidation, here’s the video you’d want to watch 😎m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u2IQoU8Vjrw.html

Hey man, love the videos! How do you brake up pricing if the customer only wants rub rail up? I charge $25ft for a wash and sealant. What should I charge for a wash and sealant on rubrail up?
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing Месяц назад
If it were me, I would be doing around $20-$25 per foot, per step for the top side, and then the same pricing structure rub rail down. If they want rub rail up, rub rail down done, I would meet in the middle of those two prices combined.

Hey Peter! Try a small spot with some diluted bleach on the rub rail, be carful, if you accidentally get it on your gel coat and don’t wipe it off right away it can scar it! But see how that works!

@DrakesDetailing

Hey bro! Unfortunately what you are describing is too far gone to do this waxing method I am doing in this video. You’ll need to compound (wetsand first if it’s really bad) polish, swirl remove and seal to. That’s just speculation based on what you have told me. Could need more, and could also need less.

I just discovered your videos and now I’m hooked. I have a 2017 chaparral that is black. I bought it new and I’ve been polishing/waxing each season to maintain its gloss. One thing I struggle with is proper order of doing things. Where I’m located we have. Wry hard water. If I strip the wax using dawn dish soap and attempt to rinse and dry, I seem to always get water spots. Should my next stop be to polish the boat which will remove water spots, and then wax. I just bought a griot orbital polisher and don’t mind putting in the time to make it look the best that I can as a diy person. Thanks
@DrakesDetailing

You can use a water spot remover, and that won’t strip your wax, but dawn definitely will! Use a water stop remover, and then wash

@DrakesDetailing

Hey bro! It all depends on the condition of the gel coat whether it needs to be compounded or not. If there is a chalky field to the gel coat and you can scratch it with your nails, and it feels like a chalkboard, then you need to heavy, cut to remove the oxidation. if there’s no oxidation just holograms, then just polish, then seal.

2002, 38 ft sea ray sun dancer: for the exterior, what is the order of cleaning steps? I want to wax, degrease, ceramic coat, buff, and clean from last season, while protecting for the upcoming season. Doing it myself, and I want to be thorough and most importantly, efficient (without cutting necessary corners to save time)

Hey bro! I’d try shine supply’s line of compounds, start with their heavy cut and move down the line of compounds and polishes based off of their compound charts on their website. If the heavy cut shine supply is not cutting though all of the oxidation, then it more than likely needs wet sanded. cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0645/8097/files/compounds.pdf?v=1646261121

Great video! I watch a lot I your stuff.... I live in Canada and boating season starts in a couple of months and I picked up at the end of last season a Yamaha 2015 242 limited S and the hull is back... completely black!!! I’m running in fresh water so once a year I have to clean the hull.... on my old boat it was white this one like I said solid black! What product do you recommend to get rid of staining on a fully black hull without damaging it? I hope to hear from you soon... if you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it! I use my boat only in freshwater and its kept covered out of the water when not in use (so bottom is not painted as there is no need). Why in the RV video do you say to use a lambswool padded brush instead of a soft bristle brush so that it doesn't damage the gelcoat, but here you're using a soft bristle brush on a boat's gelcoat? Also, I notice you use Jescar PowerPoint for both boat's and RVs. I just bought some because of your recommendation. But because you use it for RVs too it makes me wonder: is it technically a marine sealant? Thanks for the channel by the way. I've learned a lot!
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing Год назад
Use the softest brush you have, also Jescar is a paint sealant it’s not technically a marine product.
@chrisa2934
@chrisa2934 Год назад
@@DrakesDetailing I'm confused. Even though it's not technically a marine product, Jescar Powerlock Plus will still work for boats though, right? I have a boat job coming up in 2 days and I bought exactly the things you recommended in this video (also got a Maxshine M8), so I'm trying to make sure asap if that will be ok or not. Thanks in advance.

Thanks again for the vids Drake. So much good info, tips and tricks. Question for ya. I noticed you let the sealant dry in direct sunlight. Is that something you can do specifically with Jescar or is it just the nature of mobile detailing for boats? Is there anything someone should lookout for when letting sealant/wax dry in direct sunlight?
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 3 года назад
Not all sealants can be used in direct sunlight! I have never had an issue with jester power lock! Do a thin layer don't apply to much or it will be a pain to wipe off!

Enjoy the videos. Just a boat owner that would like to take care of my boat and not waste time and money doing the wrong thing. So I have a question. After a day of saltwater fishing I have been rinsing my boat then spraying it down with Starbrite Deck Cleaner and letting it sit for several minutes. It really seems to loosen the bait that got smushed into the non-skid and the dried on blood and guts. It that cleaner one of those that will strip the wax off my boat? If so, what's your way of getting this job done?
@DrakesDetailing
@DrakesDetailing 3 года назад
Yes it will take your wax off, more heavy cleaners will. Keeping your boat waxed or ceramic coated will stop things from sticking to it.
@bobfarrell3444
@bobfarrell3444 3 года назад
@@DrakesDetailing Thanks again for your prompt reply. So if I'm getting this right, you're saying keep the boat waxed and it's easier to remove the blood, fish parts, ground in and dried bait on the non-skid. Then at the end of the day wash with a wash/wax product so as not to remove the wax. Right? And the only time I use the Deck Cleaner or Dawn or similar is when I'm ready to wax the boat again? Does the Starbrite Hull Cleaner I've been using to remove the hull stain or the Rustaide you mention in your videos, does that also remove wax from the hull?
