Hey, thanks a lot for putting this out there. I'm stoked to watch more from you! As an instructor in my own field, I know what it takes to be a good teacher--and you have what it takes. You are thorough and don't expect your audience to already know--which seems obvious, but it's prevalent with those new to instructing to assume your audience knows (which defeats the purpose of teaching, but you'd be surprised). Anyhow, yeah, thanks!

A lot of people are afraid of wet sanding, but it can save sooo much time and effort and actually sometimes be safer than trying to compound out very deep scratches. Great guide! 👍

I own a home & commercial cleaning business. I’ve heard many other cleaning companies talk about using wet sandpaper with a high grit to remove scum & other films stuck on surfaces. I think these techniques will help reduce cleaning time & the end result will be phenomenal! Thank you for this informative video.

Thanks!! This worked like a charm! I was pretty sure I was going to need a paint job on my bike’s fender so I figured what the hell..it’s already ruined so why not try wet sanding. I started a little nervous...but as I saw the results were occurring in steps like you said they would I got braver. I used Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish after sanding because I did this on the fly and didn’t have the exact items you did. I then finished with Mothers Brazilian Carnauba Cleaner Wax and the results were spectacular even though I did it all by hand! Thanks again for making it look so easy because it really was.

Wish I had seen this sooner. I touched up some stone chips on my hood and used wet 1500 grit to blend the touch up paint flat, then 2000 grit. My cutting compound didn't get out all the marks from the 2000 grit and I think I might have scuffed up the paint a little. So I have to go back and try to do it again correctly to get the uniform haze before polishing.

Pretty Cool video. I was using a detail towel with spray wax. Attached was a small piece of sandpaper which caused scratches. I did not know that sandpaper clings to micro - fiber like glue. I had no idea the sandpaper was attached to the towel until I saw the scratches. I didn't try the 1000 3m wp sandpaper, trying to talk myself out of trying it. what a shame. It was on a nice black C4 Corvette....

Nice! I like watching videos like this. I have a black car that recently was stolen but recovered by police. Scrarches everywhere! Also the last owner had paint damage on the rear bumper where the paint was spiderwebbed with little cracks. I bought a paint pen, dumped some paint on a pad, went over the bumper. Wet sanded the excess out. I'll do some compound on it, put the clear on, and hopefully all is well! I'm a total noob so maybe I'm doing it wrong. Already looks way better though 😂

Awesome tutorial. I just DIY’d a paint matched grille for my Toyota tundra. I have yet to wet sand, compound and polish. And plan to tread very lightly during the finishing process. I used a 2k clear rattle can and am very impressed with the level of gloss and very little orange peel. So anticipating a stellar outcome. Plan is 2k wet sand Compound with random orbital Hand apply polish and buff Ceramic coating to seal in and gloss Any tips or suggestions outside of what you have mentioned in this video? Keep up the great videos! An awesome channel
@michaeloday9331
@michaeloday9331 4 года назад
I find that using the wax applicator like he is using to apply compound is very difficult to keep perfectly level and flat. A bigger pad is less likely to "Dig In" to the clear coat for it stays flatter and more even with the surface. Have you ever seen the hazing, almost holographic way uneven clear coat and wax reflect light? Light hits the uneven surface and reflects the different levels of coating, like a Color Shift Paint job where the color is determined depending on the light. A foam block with a Microfiber towel and some compound will take longer but the "Cut" will be even.

Thanks for this. Just wondering, can you overuse fine sandpaper and will this cause deeper scratches. I'm struggling with going from 1500 to 5000 on new basecoat and clearcoat trying to get a glass finish after buffing, but have some persistent single scratches here and there visible and strong lighting. It looks like a bit of coarse grip was stuck under paper here and there. Cant seem to get them out and wondering if I'm overusing the fine grit paper?>?

I recently used Meguiar’s Scratch X to remove a scratch on a 2018 CRV. Most of the scratch is gone but I noticed that now part of the paint has a blemish. It’s shiny but looks sorta like a bad water spot (like maybe the Scratch X ate away at the clear coat). I tried using Meguiar’s Ultimate liquid wax but it’s still dull in one spot. I then tried using a compound then polish then waxing again. Same results. Wondering if using touch up paint and wet sanding would help in this case.

So my car was scraped on the parking lot the other day. Dent repair shop fixed the dent nicely. Rear door and rear bumper had some either clear coat scratches or bit deeper but not too deep. When I looked at the door straight, the scratch wasn't visible but from the right angle, then I could see some. I asked the Dent shop to try to polish using rubbing compound or similar. They did, the scratches didn't go away and for some reason when I look the that door scratch straight, I can see it as before I couldn't. Do you know why is that?

I’ve used meguiar’s compound and meguiar’s ultimate polish with meguiar’s even coat applicator and the haze just won’t disappear 😭. I’ve wet sanded with 2000 grit paper and applied circular motion when applying the compound first and then polish after. I’m not sure if i’m not doing it long enough time? I do both applications for like 15-30 sec and then wipe with a clean cloth. Was told to not leave product on for too long.
