In tournament poker, it’s important to understand, fundamentally, that each chip is not worth the face value that it represents. The easiest way to conceptualize this is to think about what happens if you win. You may win all the chips in play, but you only receive roughly 20% of the total price pool. This phenomenon gives us insight into how we should be approaching tournaments to formulate our strategy.
The most important principle to understand in tournament poker is the idea that each chip is worth less than the previous one. In the real world, this is referred to as diminishing marginal return (DMR).
What does this mean for your game plan?
Well it means that when you’re a big stack (with 120 big blinds, while the field’s average stack is 50 big blinds) you should be extremely aggressive, since the additional blinds don’t increase the real-dollar-value of your stack, as much as the original ones.
In other words, you should be looking for good spots to apply pressure with 30-50 of your big blinds, attempting to gain more.

Hey Alec, great content! What about doing four videos on general things to keep in mind in the early, middle and late stages of a tournament then possibly even the final table. Without looking at just one hand! A general overview of what MTT players should keep in mind throughout a massive Sunday tourney.

I would bet small I think the villains range mostly consist of gut shots and flush draws so I would want to charge these hands to continue. checking seems fine but I tend to bet when my hand is most likely winning compare to the villains range.

I thought he might have the Q of 💎 but not likely! I would have to call. And you won! But you breaking it down makes since. I am a 48 years old student of this game. Only about 10-15 Years. I want to be the best one best.

If facing an aggressive player we should check raise the flop to allow us to get value from villains draws like a suited JQs or a QTs and also weaker hands like a KTs that we beat. Against a passive opponent we should bet to fold out their draws abd leaving in all their hands we beat minus KQ. I would bet 3/4 pot on this flop for my sizing to fold out draws. This also allows me to play for stacks in later streets as I have a clear picture we likely have them beat with an added benefit that they will have around a pot sized bet left on the turn. If we get 3 bet then I'm putting villain on a pair of 44s, or a weak ace like A2o, A3o, A4o, A5o and folding since I know depending on the stakes many players don't realize they should just shove those wirh a 9bb stack and take advantage of the added folf equity +showdown value of ace high in a heads up pot.

I'm checking 100% , if we look weak hes going to shove all in on a later street regardless of if he has something or not.. if we raise he may fold if he has nothing.

I would call, since he jams preflop any hand with the ace of diamonds.

I would bet 20k. I like to charge any draws. But, I could argue a check here. If I check, he can turn his entire range into a bluff because that's the most fold equity he can have.

I agree with that. The check in that spot is more of situational strategy.

Call on the river, A high flush is unlikely, SOMETIMES you run into Q high flush and just have to eat it

Once the sb folds, I can’t see why you wouldn’t bet enuf on the flop to force bb to go all-in or fold. Great analysis, but isn’t letting him see more cards a mistake? At this point his stack is worth less to you than maintaining your chip lead.
@cooledcannon

I would do a small cbet(~20k) for value on the flop I would call the river

If we bet slightly on the turn will we have more information about opponents hand? As q10 with a diamond will probably make the call. And q10 without a diamond would fold?
@waynecarson1780
@waynecarson1780 Год назад
I would check. If we know he’s not holding an Ace, and we have a diamond and straight blockers, there aren’t too many scary turn cards. Let him see a turn and give him a chance to bluff his stack off
@andrewwhetstone9695

1/2 pot bet on flop so if he is chasing any of the hands we think he is we maximize the amount of chips we could win
@poktaun9974
@poktaun9974 3 года назад
calling the river almost every time. unless I know the villain is complete unable to bluff here but only hand that beats you is Ad and Qd. already pretty much ruled out the ace since the V would most likely jam that pre for at least on flop.
