This week we prep the new windshield that we got from the glass shop for the F100 we call Col. Mustard. We talk differences in the new windshield vs. the original Carlite. We install the Daniel Carpenter windshield weatherstrip from Auto Krafters Inc. in preparation for the glass install next week.

Don’t listen to that complainer- the 3M bedding and glazing compound is mac daddy. Yes, it gets everywhere. Yes, it’s a pain to clean up. But it seals correctly and stays pliable for-basically-ever so that as the glass expands and contracts in the dissimilar weatherstrip it’ll continue to hold a good seal. It’s as good or better than what the factory used, it’s the right stuff.

My 73 Econoline, glass was not in right, leaked even after a new gasket, then when I was hit, my windshield popped out, it revealed rust around the frame, proving my leak complaints.

I had a new windshield installed in my 70 F250 (cab is 72 F100). The installer had a heck of a time, took 3 tries using the string method. The trim was a pain also, thankfully it turned out great, all for $100 installed (I supplied the new rubber).

I had a glass guy install a new windshield on my Road Runner and he didn’t use the 3M bedding and it leak! Not happy.. lm going to send him this video!!

Same here on my van, even after complaining, glass shop denied the windshield was leaking, a wreck this year popped out the glass, had surface rust in the locations I said water was coming in

Do they make a window Rubber seal that omits the chrome? I think I would like to do mine without the Chrome.

Does anyone know where to get a 5/32 thick glass? That’s one thing that’s been putting me off of doing mine is getting a thin windshield that’ll crack easily.

Now I understand what all that nasty black gunk is all over my dash and and carpet after getting mine installed. Man the made a mess. Crap was dripping down for days. Took some hardcore cleaning to get that out too. Apparently glass window professionals aren't so professional anymore.

To the best of my knowledge, Ford did not use any sealer on their pickup windshields. The manual does not call for it. It is like putting Permatex on a gasket. Here is a link to a video of a windshield being put in a 1967-1972 Chev pickup. This video is from the people who make the gaskets and a guy from Eastwood. The only liquid they use is soapy water. I respectfully disagree. Comparing the Chevy windshield install to a Ford is no good. While things are similar, they aren't the same. Two different trucks. It may be that Chevrolet didn't use bedding and glazing, I haven't researched it (but if we do a Chevy truck, I will). Every Ford gasketed windshield I have ever installed in the passenger car line has bedding and glazing compound around the glass and the perimeter on both the front and rear. It is in the original assembly manuals on at least the Mustang and Falcon. Further, that glass in the truck was an original piece of glass. I can't "prove it" but I am almost double sure that the gasket was too. I know that the truck was painted without removing the glass.When we removed the gasket, there was bedding and glazing compound on the perimeter of the windshield opening. Not urethane, not bare, bedding and glazing compound. If you install a Ford windshield without the compound it will leak. If you use urethane it will leak later.
