The Garmin LiveScope demands a lot of power from your boats batteries. It's important to have ample amp hours. Another important thing to consider is the gauge of wire. Using a heavy gauge wire is super important when wiring a Garmin LiveScope, Graph and fish finder. I talk about how to select the proper gauge wire, finding a battery with enough amp hours to support your electronics and using a fuse block to tie it all together. Weather it's Garmin LiveScope, Lowrance Active Target or Humminbird Mega Live, proper wiring to your graph is key to having a good clean image on your jon boat or bass boat!

Excellent job researching and making sure you use the correct gauge wire. If to thin you are creating more resistance for the flow of current which will cause it to get hot and melt or even cause a fire. Even a size bigger isnt bad as it will not effect anything, just dont go smaller. Makes me smile when I see people doing stuff like this right 😁!

Excellent job. I did mine almost exactly the same way, but I used 10ga wire since my run wasn't quite 15'. I terminated the fuse block about midway in my starboard rod locker on my Z18 which made the run about 14'. I was also able to get tinned copper wire in 10ga a little cheaper than 8ga. One critique on your installation I'll make is you limited your access to the fuse block and to the GL10. If you have to replace a fuse, or monitor your indicator lights on the GL10, you're going to have to take the boat apart. If this happens on the water, which it will of course, you're screwed. I am running the fuse block off the cranking battery, which also powers all the other vessel's systems. It's not ideal, but the Merc 4 stroke charges that battery quite efficiently. I'm holding out for a LiPO battery, but in the meantime I may just get another flooded deep cycle battery to run the electronics. I am running three Elite-9 Ti2's, a 93SV and the GL10 all on the dedicated circuit. I was saving the last port on the fuse block for an NMEA 2000 network, but I just learned that it isn't going to help me. Again, great job on the video!
@TheTinHorseMonty
@TheTinHorseMonty 2 года назад
Thanks Neil! I agree on the less than ideal placement of the fuse block n GL 10. I have 6 screws on my TM pan that I will have to remove to access it. I really didn't have anywhere else to put it. Tin boats have limited real-estate. Sounds like your set up is working great. I've been thinking lithium but $$$. Someday!

When that battery dies from time, I would look at the Ampted Outdoors lithium. I have the 30 AH and can pick it up with my pinky. I have fished on that for 2.5 days without a charge. It will save you about 50 pounds in your boat and cost about $200.00. I had mine on the starting battery and got to a point to where by 11 I would be fishing with my motor running during a tournament because I had to get jumped off. You will like the LS man. Make sure to do the update that just came out for the 1022. It is amazing.

Any reason you didn’t use a relay on the livescope power line and trigger it with a toggle switch from the helm or somewhere convenient? This would eliminate the switch at the bilge and allow you to isolate the lower current circuits for the depth finders while ensuring better current flow to the live scope.

Here’s what I don’t understand. If someone puts an online fuse less than 18 inches from the battery, doesn’t that severely limit the amount of power coming up? My mind can’t comprehend why use 8 gauge if we use little bitty wires on an in line fuse. Didn’t we lose our power and what is left now the 8 gauge carries to graph? Wouldn’t that fuze box you had be better for amps???
@The.husky.max.
@The.husky.max. 4 месяца назад
You can use the smaller wire when closer to the power source because the whole reason the size of wire matters is when you’re talking about length. Minus power going through the wire obviously. so the longer the distance the wires is the bigger you want your wire within reasonable size. Because energy will get lost as it travels through a smaller wire more vs a bigger wire. that’s why it’s okay to run small wire inline fuses when it’s close if not directly connected to the power supply

Amp hours are measured down to 10.5 volts. Your unit requires 12 volts to operate properly. @TheTinHorseMonty
@TheTinHorseMonty 2 года назад
Yes I ran 8 gauge wire for the power and ground. I ran it from the battery to the fuse block. The power wire and ground from the graph and LiveScope box ran straight to the fuse block. If you don't use a fuse block you can run wire from the battery directly to the graph and directly to the LiveScope box. You'll just have to splice n join together. The fuse block eliminates having to run 2 power wires and 2 ground wires from the battery. Run 1 set to the block and jump off that. Hope this makes sense.

One in the front connected to livescope (trolling motor transducer), one at console with transducer on transom. Have not had it out on the water yet. I have been searching for some answers to my questions as a new user; Maybe you or someone can help me and others? 1. Can I run my units out of the water (at home) without hurting anything? And is there a specific process to follow? Like disconnect transducer from unit, etc… 2. Software and Maps and updating: how can you find current versions installed? Are updates for software and maps together or separate installs? …Referencing back to #1.; Can I install updates at home with boat out of the water. What is the safest way to update your units ? Thanks Everyone…. Good stuff…
@TheTinHorseMonty
@TheTinHorseMonty 2 года назад
Yes you can run units out of water but if you are going to have the LiveScope out of the water for more than 10 minutes in the hot summer sun I would power it down. The black box can get hot. The best way to update is by using the Active Captain App on your phone. There are several videos on RU-vid that explain the process of software updates using Active Captain. You can install updayes at home or on the water as long as you have a good cel or WiFi signal. You can go to the Garmin website and find available updates for your unit. Not sure how to find out what mapping system you have installed. It's probably listed in the chart section on your graph somewhere. Hope this helps.
