after much research and shagrin this video finally helped me figure out my relays to add the optional OEM power door locks in my manual lock truck that did not come with them originally
Thank you for this very informative vid. Besides knowing how to wire the relays, I also learned how to hook up a dash switch to the alarm and relays. Thanks again.
I'm glad I found this video. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need this information. I'm about to install an aftermarket alarm system in my '96 Ford Ranger. I'm also going to be installing aftermarket door lock actuators that will be controlled by my alarm system. I haven't decided between two alarm systems on Amazon which both seem pretty good. The two alarm systems are the Avital 3100LX and the Viper 350 Plus 3105V.
Hi Jeremy, thanks checking out our video. Both the alarms you are looking at are good alarms. The biggest difference between the two are the remote look and the led on the Viper 3105v is built into the antenna and is blue instead of red. You might want to pickup a DEI 451m door lock relay harness as well. It will make the installation a little easier.
Thank you soo much,. Id just finished the installation of my first compustar alarm,. I was stuck in that step of the process,. Before i found your video. My gosh ,. This video was so helpful, now my alarm is 100% working as i expected again thanks!!
Sure you could have by using these. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077QN5H4S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They are prewired and color coded.
I have an 08 pathfinder. I'm trying to wire in my remote starter. My car has negative door locks. The door lock switch has a one wire communication line that goes to the bcm and the bcm reverses polarity. Can I wire in a 5 wire relay straight to the driver door lock actuator to reverse polarity. And will it affect the operation of the bcm?
Great video thanks, but i have [2] questions: 1. do you loop the positive 85 86 87 87 together and run to the battery?... 2. and 85 and 86 is that where you connect your alarm and lights so they will flash? Thanks again!!! I'm retired just like trying stuff myself. Have a blessed day!
Yes sir you will tie both 87s and one 85 and 86 from opposite relay to 12 volts. The left over 85 and 86 will run to the alarm door lock outputs. If you are trying to add a relay to power lights I have a video covering the basics of a relay installation. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GjR4Ko5r57s.html
So I found this setup wired in a truck that a bought with a positive and negative (I assume) trigger wire running over to the drivers side of the truck with a small 2 pin plug on it. It appears that maybe someone removed the radio triggered portion of the system. What should I buy to put in its place to restore the keyless entry? Is there a wireless reversing relay out there?
This is also helpful for replacing the slide controller on an RV. Lippert (formerly Power Gear) controller boards use a pathetic little DPDT relay that burns out easily when the slide gets old and the load gets bigger from the worn motor and dried grease on the gears. Instead of buying a $140 replacement from Lippert, this works fine, but you may have to change the 12V connection at 85/86 to a ground, as many older RV's used a positive trigger. Also, Lippert's replacement boards are ONLY negative trigger, and this method saves you the trouble of changing your slide switch from positive trigger to negative trigger. Be looking for a video about this on my channel in the coming weeks. I will also be using a similar method to manually open/close the choke on my generator from inside the camper.
@AztecWarrior69 Only days after I posted that comment I was hit by a drunk driver. There was eventually a sizeable settlement, but in the interim I had to sell my motorhome to make up for the hard times the drunk caused me. I've since replaced the motorhome, but the slide controller is fine so far so I haven't worked on it to make a video out of. It's mostly been computers and my son's jeep on my channel
thank you, In my friends car , I am chasing parasitic current loss through the electric door lock, installed by a "service" huh, yes 87A rests on 30, as normally closed N/C, clearly I see no parasitic current, so I should be able to find the crossed wires,
A question how can I make my truck do power doors lock work with the transmission because my truck only has factory alarm and if the power doors locks work with the alarm but it does not work with the transmission and how can I do that when it is in parking unlock and when it starts it locks ...
hi, thanks for your instructions. it worked for me - i just did this on the passenger side door locks. Couple of questions: 1. The relays are staying warm. is this normal? 2. I did this only for the passenger side but i noticed all the other 3 door locks are working with much greater force now. Is it possible that a stronger current is flowing in the door locks circuit?! (as they are connected in series)
I know this is an old video now but can the trigger be from existing locks, eg I’ve done an engine swap and used donor car full loom, but donor car Audi a3 3 door, project is 5 door so at the moment no wiring in place for rear door locks so would this fix my issue ?
I am trying to install an aftermarket keyless entry in a 02 volvo v70. The issue I am findind is how to wire this to provide the double pulse needed in this car to disarm the factory alarm. Someone has mentioned that the answer is at the door lock wiring which got 6 wires .Grey ,Yellow,,Pink,Purple,Blue/white, Blue which I assume would also control the builded in door lock/actuator the others wires I have no clue. Would you know what to look for and how to wire in this car? The only info I found was a very techinical and unclear squematics without any wiring colour reference.
Good video. I am using the setup you show here with the relays. In the video you don't show any door switches. I am using a remote lock unlock and also want to use left and right door switches to control the locks. I have set this up and I can lock or unlock using each switch separately. Problem I am having is if I hook up both switches at the same time neither one work. Do you have a diagram to show me how to hook this up so both switches and remote will switch the lock unlock. I am currently using two 2 wire actuators but I do have 5 wire actuators if needed to make this work.
You will need 2 three position momentary switches. Tie the center pin to ground and the outputs to the door lock outputs of you keyless/security system.
@@stereoking7778 I have the left & right switches wired in center pin to ground and one switch output to blue and one to green on the actuator. Either switch works fine if I only hook one switch up at a time. Once I hook both switches to pins 85 or 86 nothing works. Have not hooked in the remote yet. Remote will trigger lock unlock with white and white/black wire when I hook that up. But my problem is not the remote function but the switches both working properly. I have worked on this for hours and can't get it to work with both switches. Even duplicated a whole system outside the car on the bench with same results. Something is not wired right to use both switches at once but I can't figure out what to do to fix it.
@@stereoking7778 thanks.just one more problem.on the right click alarm.the lock remote locks drivers an tailgate.but the unlock button locks passenger .tried reverse drivers door wires and no difference..maybe reverse passenger door wires?
Can i install door lock/unlock switch button? My car doesnt have one. Only auto lock by pressing brake and unlock after gear put on P. Can a any universal power window switch being use as door lock/unlock switch? Is it same mechanism? How to wire it?
You sure can. You will need a three position momentary switch. The center pin will go to ground and each output will tie into the alarm lock outputs before the relays.
@@stereoking7778 pls I am working a keyless entry to 2006 Chrysler stratus, I could not get the lock and unlock wire to connect to the relay from the car door switch
Great information but what about the doorlock after market switch. " the actual switch that you hit on the door to unlock and lock door. Alarm remote button switch explained but Door lock & unlock switch oem or after market ? Where those wires go?
Ok question I'm trying to put three actuators one for driver's door passengers n finally trunk .so I only need two relays not two for each actuators n do I connect all wires of actuators together for unlock n for lock.please help .I burnt one out already
Thanks dude I got the door to work.now for the trunk I need to use two n what cable can I use to trigger from alarm on mines I picked a solid gray but didn't pop the actuator
@@stereoking7778 same thing is happening to merit blows the fuse right away, is this wiring diagram works even when the lock and unlock signal from the alarm are negative ?
I have 3 5 wire door lock actuators and 3 door like switches. I cant find how to wire it. None of the relay wiring diagrams work. Can you tell me how to hook them up?
Sure you can wire it up just like this video describes but instead of using an alarm to trigger a door locks just use the switch. If your switch has 3 wires the center pin should be ground and up is usually unlocked and down his lock.
stereo king oregon can I do alarm and switch hooked up? I have a viper 5704. Oh and I found out that the 5 wire actuator is useless because I installed door switches, I read that in a forum from 2004.
Power steps usually have a control box that can sense when to start and stop. Some times its built into the motor but normally. So just relays are not usually the trick.
