Love your system, but can't keep up,I have a new 18 circuit painless wiring harness, but still need relays right to run fan fuel pump air ride lights ect. Right ? Can I get a copy of this so I can do this? I have most of the things you show! Thank you for whatever you can help with!!
can you expand this setup to include a hazard light switch? and what it would take to make hazards operate at the same time that brakes do? in other words single filament bulbs used in the rear for brake and blink but when hazard lights are activated the brake switch will still illuminate the rear lights solid, not blinking
@@straightouttheshed Adding hazards is easy. Just use a DPDT (On-OFF) switch and a diode will do all of that. Can use that SPDT switch or a OEM on the column Turn Signal Switch. If you are making from scratch like on a dune buggy or ATV or Go Cart, then you can use just 2 relays, 2 DPDT Switches and 3 diodes.. Less wiring.
My EZGO golf cart had a headlights and taillights. I followed your RU-vid video “How to Wire Turn Signals” and then decided to add brake lights using your RU-vid video “How to Wire Turn Signals AND brake lights” The wiring doesn’t look as neat as your mock-up but everything works. Very informative and well done instructions, Thank You
Ah! Of course, the power to the brake lights runs through the normally closed contacts. I was trying to wrap my head around this concept for days. With the help of your video, I was able to rewire my hot rod for combined turn and brake lights. Thank you very much for the detailed and simple explanation.
Thanks for watching. I do the videos this way because this is the way that I learn too! Glad you liked it, and if you get bored check out some of my other much more complex wiring videos, I bet you’ll like them!
I've put off wiring the 1955 C750 for some time now, wanting to get this trailer wired to haul materials up north. I'm now ready to tackle both. Thanks for keeping it simple for me. Scott
Alright man, this is the fifth video I watched of yours. Now I'm inviting you to come to my house to fully wire up a rat rod from scratch. Because you make it look easy. Thanks for the videos
hi, i am an english guy [ 75 yrs ] - you certainly make the mystical art of auto electrics an awful lot easier to understand ! - i have just a couple of minor moans ! - 1. white wiring don't come out that well against the white pegboard , and 2. your blue wires suddenly become red ? otherwise , brilliant !
Thank you so much!!! This worked perfectly although I had to do some major head scratching to get it to work. First of all my car is Positive Ground. Second of all the relay connectors I purchased were not wired as yours are. That took a bit to figure out. The clue was that the stop light switch activated the turn flasher..... oh, that's not right.....Once I realized the issue I just had to follow your chart and de-pin the connectors and re-pin as yours are. Oh, and I'm now subscribed!!!
Great video series, thank you for your time and energy that you put into these! Quick question for you on the "ire Turn Signals AND Brake Lights into a ONE BULB" video: This is exactly what I need as I have completely removed all factory parts and wiring on a street/strip vehicle but in order to run the car on the street, obviously I need turn signals and brakes. That being said, I AM using std. 1157 dual filament bulbs up front and in the back of the car, so... Do I wire it the same way you demonstrate in the video or is there a tweak required because of the 3 contacts on the 1157's vs. the 2 contacts on the 194's in your demo? Thank you very much!
Thank you for this video and the great explanation! I was able to wire turn signals, break lights, hazard lights because of this video. One suggestion I do have is to have a schematic somewhere in the videos so people don't have to (reverse?) engineer the video.
@@AztecWarrior69_69 I added onto what was shown in the video using my electrical knowledge(just a dpst switch that switches both side turn signal relays at once)
@@AztecWarrior69_69 I put them on a garden tractor. I did not require the ignition to be on in order for the lights to work(brake, hazard, etc). I definitely considered the fact that hazards disable brake lights with this arrangement but for my purposes, I don't think it is that important. If I was putting them on an on-road vehicle, I would have a separate brake and turn signal. I know that there are many alternative options which I could have just as easily tried(using arrangements of diodes, relays, switches, etc) but I wanted to try something a little different and I would probably use one of these arrangements in the future if needed.
is it safe to use pin 30 as a power output, while a lot of information says that pin 30 is a high amperage input feed Thank you very much in advance and watching creative videos like this is a fun thing for me
thank you very much for this video. I do not like have the brake light turn off only to flash on the rear. I never understood having a one filament bulb having two functions. In the early 60s I rewired all my VW Bugs and Vans to have a separate rear double sided brake light with a separate amber left or right turn signal. Now I am wiring up a self powered 7 Way trailer light test box. I was really disappointed when I found out that the 7 wires in a 7 Way trailer light circuit used the terrible combined brake and turn signal system. I needed this circuit to duplicate what the towing vehicle "tells" the trailer. I just wish you had included much simpler to follow .
Awesome video. I am trying to figure out how to wire a set of taillights with essentially 1 filament bulbs. How would you integrate parking lights into this circuit?
Very useful, but I really wish you had included a wiring diagram. Or rather two: one of the whole circuit, and one just of the way the relays themselves work. Having both this general - but very clear - description, and the technical diagram you can refer to, would help full comprehension immensely.
All of this stuff comes straight out of my head, so I don’t have written diagrams for it. At some point I would like to make them, but there are only so many hours in a day. I do have a video on how relays work which you may find useful. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QCkfFCLa_Jg.htmlsi=6sYrYoNSMV3X__Mb. Good luck with your project!
Hello do you have a video like this that also show running lights and headlights. I would also like the head light to shut down when blinker is on. Let's with built-in turn signals. Thanks for any help. These videos are great. 😊
Enjoy your videos, very informative. I have a small tractor and headlights and fender marker lights turn on with a two wire switch. Ran new wires to fender lights and added a hazard switch, but would like all lights to come on with the switch but also for fender lights to work as hazard lights when I switch them on. I know very little about wiring, just enough to get me in trouble but also get some stuff done, but cannot figure out how get this done. Any Ideas? Possibly use a 5 pin relay? I have no idea what to do. Thanks
Thank you! I actually decided to create a new RU-vid channel recently for my rusty car projects, and I have a new Impala video over there. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-39-eqqDrGzQ.html Let me know what you think!
First off WONDERFUL videos I have learned from them. They way you explain and build them out os perfect. I've been combing through your videos looking for something matching what im trying to do on my 2008 Tundra. Right now, I have the ALL the interior removed and trying to think ahead on some wiring changes I want to do since I'm here. I don't want to remove all this again. I am making my truck kind of a "show" vehicle that is a "tactical" and have the ability to manipulate different aspects of "black out drive". Oneday will try and include a FLIR system (maybe). I am trying to do a -one switch activation to kill all rear lighting (i.e., breaks, reverse, marker) along with the interior door activation switchs (so if any door is opened, nothing indicates it). However, where I rub my head, do that this is not my level of expertise, is how do I have an indicator switch (when turned to "kill mode") indicate with no power to the rear lighting? Not the other way around, where the indicator is "on" when the lights are working, then is "off" when in "kill mode". I hope that makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You for the Content ! Some may not quite realize just How Much TIME is needed to generate these Helpful vids …. THANKS ! I have enjoyed your content on 12V circuits. I wired a custom LS-swapped hot rod From SCRATCH front-to-back. I used switches, fusing and relays for virtually Every circuit. Many said that my system is Way over-complicated. I have lived through a catastrophic vehicle fire, so I want to use the ‘ounce of prevention’ mentality. I have an application (custom CamperVan wiring). Could you perhaps do a vid on controlling One circuit, using Three rocker switches, from separate panels in the CamperVan ? Most vids that I see for similar application do not address Fusing, Switch ‘protection’ (i.e. relays ?), which leaves me feeling that all protection has been employed. The rocker switches are 15A capacity, have 5,6, or 7 pins. I presume 2 or 3-way. On-Off-On ? It would Definitely be HELPFUL, and I strongly believe that enough others will agree, increasing Views. Again, Thank You
This is explained really well. I’m trying to wire a jeep with single bulbs as running lights, turn signals, and hazard. Is this possible? I have it wired similar to this but instead of the brake light it’s the parking lights but it’s not working correctly. Any help is appreciated!
I like your wiring, but one more question: while breaking and signaling a turn, how does the Relais stays on during flashing without a capacitor? In my mind, when the turn signal switches from on to off and back to on, in the off phase of the flash there isn’t power sent to the Relais, isn’t it?
You seem like someone who would know the answer to my question: i have a 7 way rv plug with turn signals yellow and green wires both hooked up along with a brake wire. When i hit my brakes, both lights light up np, however when i turn left or right, both lights flash. There is no other way to wire these wires unfortunately but can you think up a solution that will fix this issue for me ? I was told a recrifying diode would help but no idea on how to get that done. Thanks in advance.
Very nice explanation method, Kindly make video on how to add a circuit breaker between the main battery and wires in case of a short circuit….. thankyou
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have a question about pin 87. I thought pin 87 always go to the load. Your video showed pin 30 connects to light bulbs. Is it matter or am I wrong? Thank again
Solid question, and you are totally right under normal conditions, which you can see in this video I made ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QCkfFCLa_Jg.html. However - this specific video is a special case when we are using them in reverse to get the desired result we need. As long as the proper fuse sizes and wires sizes are in place, it should function just fine. As I’ve said in a whole bunch of my videos, there are many ways to wire a circuit, and this is just one. :) Thanks for watching and posting this question - I wish I had planned better and answered this in the video itself! Ah well, each video I learn a little and try to make the next one incrementally better. Thanks again.
Thank for answering my question. I spent 2 years in automotive program. I wish I had an instructor like you while I were in school. You make the most difficult subject to become fun and easy to understand. Best wishes
Thanks for the video! It was a great help. However, I have an issue with wiring my brake lights. I seemingly have all my wires set up just like you, except I have 2 relays instead of 4. I have my left side together and my right side together. All the blinkers and things work great, but the brake lights, specifically, do not light up. They do not brighten when pushing the brake switch. It's a brake switch like the one in the video (it closes the circuit when pressed). When I have the brake switch wired to power and the switch wired to the relay, and I press the turn signal, the turn signal lights stay on when the brake is pressed, but the rear lights still don't light up??? They only brighten up when I disconnect the brake switch from a power source, and the blinker works as it should. Could this be because of my relays are bad? They are brand new and both do this.
can you expand this setup to include a hazard light switch? and what it would take to make hazards operate at the same time that brakes do? in other words single filament bulbs used in the rear for brake and blink but when hazard lights are activated the brake switch will still illuminate the rear lights solid, not blinking
Thank you for your good video, i have one question, how i can wire if i just have brake switch and turn signal switch, its for my jeep wrangler 2020, i change the rear light with led, but in my car i have 5 pin from car and on my new led light i have 4 pin, i try to put the brake light with turn signal, but When i push brake turn signal dont work, how i can wire ? Thank you
@WiringRescure I'm using a toggle switch for signals and want to use a single pole push button for hazards. Can I fork off a diode to each signal? Thanks!
Great video, thank you! Quick question, would it be possible to use only 2 relays 1 for both front and back left and another for front and back right. Just trying to cut down on wiring because of small space. Thanks again, your videos have been very helpful!
Check out "Kwik Wire" chassis wiring harness i was very surprised to learn when i bought there kit they dont use relays for any lighting for the exception of there flasher and emergency flasher. Other then that no relays? They do use fuses but claim relays are not necessary due to there AWG of wiring is so heavy. I would love for you to order there 8 curcuit kit as i did and do a review on it with an explanation for there thinking???
Hi, I was wondering if you might know how to wire a side marker NOT to blink when the blinker is on, instead leaving it just on like the running lights? This is on a 07 trailblazer SS
For hazard lights, switch needs a 4th position that sends power out both sides (to the 4 white wires) Therefore activates all 4 relays instead of just two. Or you could wire in a seperate hazard switch with its own power feed, send the power out to a flasher relay then the 4 white wires or pin 86 of all 4 relays
Great Video greetings from Argentina, this system is the same that DKW Cars used, the main difference Is there Is no relays, the car has a Ligth Switch that has on One side the Headligths Swicht and the other side the Turn Signals Switch, in the Turn Signals Side there's a output that goes to the brake Switch.Could you Made a Vídeo about installing hazzard ligths with this type of connection?
I agree, I would like to incorporate a hazard flasher into this system. I there a way to put a switch into the flash circuit from the factory flasher to function like the factory hazard switch?
I know others have asked but they either didn't receive a reply or their reply doesn't answer my specific question. Im employing this system but if i was to add hazards how would I do that? Could it just be setup for the hazards switch trigger pin 87 on all 4 relays and if so would anything bad happen if the turn signal switch got turned on? I understand with that setup the hazards wouldn't work without the ignition on, correct? I know this is a lot but would appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance.
Thank you for your videos, it helps understand wireing in a way easy to understand. Im building probably world's first AWD V8 reverse trike motorcycle. You helped me understand the basics of electrical wiring in a car. Keep them coming.
This was a great video and really helped me solved getting the brake light and turn signal portion of rewiring my 1965 Corvair, thanks a bunch! One small request though, is there any way you could include how to have a brake switch connect to a relay to send power through pin 87A on the LR and RR relays? I was able to figure it out on my own but someone may need the heads up before they try to hook up their brake lights through a >5 amp switch.
"how to have a brake switch connect to a relay to send power through pin 87A on the LR and RR relays?" Did you not watch the video? That is the way it is in this video. Are you meaning to say that you want use the brake switch to energize a 5th relay and that is what connects brake power to the other two relays? And what's wrong with using a Greater Than (>) 5 Amp Switch?
I have a few other videos about wiring emergency lights. Here is one, though I think I’ve made at least 3 (check my wiring playlist). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uXiEoJVtHi8.html
Do i have a taillight im working on Truck already has The following: Brake Signal Ground What would go in the flasher wire? Ive hooked all up and signal does not work whenever im pressing the brake, i had it working a couple months ago but stopped working all the sudden, any help would be nice. Thanks in advance
I am trying to wire a canbus system that flashes ground on a motorcycle to the lights, but i am using a led light strip with amber turns. The hard thing about this is that the signal wire is shared for the brake and the turn. I need help trying to make the blinkers work without also flashing the brake light when both are engaged
Does anyone know if those 2 wire flasher relays fit in 5 pin Bosch style holder? Trying to build my own fuse/relay box and I’d love to tuck those away in there.
Fantastic video!!! Quick question. I'm restoring a '36 Ford that originally used this circuit with single-filament bulbs, but I want to upgrade to a 3-wire (brake, tail, ground) LED unit so the lights are brighter. Does this circuit still apply, or could I run separate brake, turn, and tail circuits as if they were all separate bulbs, and then run them through one of those Curtis 4 to 3 wire adapters like you find on trailer towing kits? Thanks!
First off. "'36 Ford that originally used this circuit with single-filament bulbs" No it does not use this circuit. It does not use relays at all. It uses a slider turn signal switch. "and then run them through one of those Curtis 4 to 3 wire adapters like you find on trailer towing kits?" That's not how those kits work. You actually have to have the wiring already there. In order for you to have seperate the circuits at the switch by taking off the brakes and running it separate to the rear (whole new wire) "3-wire (brake, tail, ground) LED unit so the lights are brighter." It is not being 3 wire that makes it brighter, since the power draw is the same. It is the type of bulb, Gauge wire, quality of the switch, that are the determining factors of brightness.
How would I wire a turn signal to have turn signal and running lights together ? Trying to wire mirrors that have turn signals on a car that wasn’t equipped with them. I Ran it to a 5 pin relay and used turn signal as signal for relay but running into an issue where the turn signal on mirror and on headlight alternate back and forth. They don’t flash together. Is it possible ?
I need some help. I have a Ididit steering column and led headlight and parking light in one but I want the parking light to be turn signal and parking light. How can I get ahold of you.
I gott old 67 ranchero only the left side brake light and blinker work but the running light on the right work no brake or blinker. What should I check?
I've been wanting to modernize the wiring on my 1966 VW bus for a while now using modern day relays and fuses and was wondering if any of your videos show how to wire a single LED tail light to work the tail lights, brake lights and turn signals since that'll be the almost the same on my VW bus which uses a single dual filament bulb to work all of those circuits. Great videos by the way.
Why? Unless you don't already have the wiring, then it is just a one for one swap. Fuse box: just upgrade and reconnect. Flasher: Swap out for an LED flasher. Lights: Swap out the lights for LED.
Do you know how it works on an older car that has the power for the flasher going to the turn signal stalk/switch which distributes the power to the lights directly from the switch?
The old cars have a turn signal switch in the dash that is wired very much like the switch in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Io_i9016o10.html
@@WiringRescue Perfect. Also I posted a question for you in your DIY electric fan video. If you have a sec to answer my question it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks for all your videos about relays, I have learned a lot from. I have a question about a 3 wire light for turn signal and side marker, I want it to cancel the marker when I put the blinker but don’t think it’s possible with one relay because if I wire the the marker to 87 and my blinker to 87a I would have to turn my side marker off via switch every time I would turn my blinker on for 87a to work. If I wire side marker to 87a I don’t think would work either. Any ideas would be appreciated ? Thanks again
The wiring is almost the same. Difference is that you will wire the running light circuit, to the side marks, in place of the brakes. And it can be done using only two relays. Of course you will need to Either change out your turn signal switch to a DPDT. Or use timer relays. It all depends if you are trying to do this as a "from scratch" wiring or trying to add this to non modified stock vehicle. So you should start by giving more details about the vehicle you intend to do this on. I have diagrams.
