@@yourvirtualmentor9002 What would you recommend on volunteer opportunities to put on a resume? Do hiring managers tend to look at policy-focused volunteer opportunities or does it matter?

Policy Analysts provide information and recommendations on what policies to pursue, based on an analysis of data. A lobbyist has a certain issue or set of issues he is in favor of, and tries buy the influence of politicians (it's legal if making a campaign contribution, illegal if it's a straight up bribe) in exchange for voting on a piece of legislation the way the lobbyist wants him to vote. Lobbying organizations sometimes have Policy analysts if they are large enough, but most likely these analysts already agree with the mission of the lobbying organization, and provide analyses that tell the lobbyists what they want to hear. If there is a chapter of ASPA (American Society of Public Administration) in your city, find out when they meet. You'll get to talk to people who work full-time in policy and administration(probably local government), and if you're interested in policy career you can ask about what they do and you can get started. The PoliSci Dept. at most if not all universities bring people in to speak on different topics, and you don't always have to be a student to be able to attend. Nonprofits and issue advocacy groups also have talks, sometimes with elected officials or candidates for office. I have a MPP (Master of Public Policy) and our grad school would frequently bring in speakers to speak to both just us policy students, as well the general university community (anyone who was interested in hearing the speaker).
