How to Write to NTFS Drives in macOS Mojave & Catalina without Software

it works. thanks.. if you still not work. please eject first and plug in again. And for drive that has space on their name you can change it with "\040". as ex: your drive name is DATA DOCUMENT you can write in terminal like this DATA\040DOCUMENT

Tip: Once you finish the whole process and go to "volumes", you can drag the hard drive to your sidebar and it will appear there everytime you mount the hard drive

Here we don't need formatting also. All steps are easily explained. It worked for my macOS Mojave. Thank you very much.

It worked. I am not computer savvy but watched it many times before I tried it. Watch it several times. When you enter password it may show wrong password. Don't panic. If you look above you will see another 'password' on top of the password with nothing. Type something into that and enter then it will take you to next step where you can enter command number two. Once done you will not see your external drive on the desktop. In the finder go to Go- go to folder- type /Volumes and enter. Then you will see your drive.

Apple has a reason to keep this feature disable by default because it's not yet reliable and final. Most of the time it works without any problems but sometimes there is a possibility of losing your hard disk data. It's better to keep this feature disable until the Apple enable it in the next updates or upgrades.The best way to use the NTFS on the MacOS is reformat the hard drive to exFat for more data safety. However, if you still want to use this video or every available methods, you need to make a backup of your important data.

it won't work for some of the situations. Just for me, after the process, all the files are hidden and cannot be reached. The method to recover the drive into read-only is to 1. use the "Sudo nano /etc/fstab" to enter the page you modified before. 2. delete "LABEL=NAME none ntfs rw,auto,nobrowse" you just entered. 3. use ^x + return to exit and replug the drive.

It was not clear for me which name to pick for my USB drive; had to watch a couple of times. You have to use the exact name of *that* USB drive. You can check under volumes or simply in Finder. LABEL=GRMCPRFRER_EN_DVD In my case.. Now it works. Thanks!

Nano is a modeless editor so you can start typing immediately to insert text. If you are editing a configuration file like /etc/fstab use the -w switch to disable wrapping on long lines as it might render the configuration file unparseable by whatever tools depend on it. For example: root #nano -w /etc/fstab

Since the OS has been updated to BigSur, the external HDD cannot be shown in 'Volumes' folder. Any suggestions to rectify this?

hi so thank you for this video its very helpful.. but now i cant seem to write anymore, the new folder option is still there but after that it just says 'error' or 'its not supported'. i tried to undo the proses and redo it again but its still says that.. can you help me please??

I am sure there is a way to get an external drive to work with spaces in it (maybe quotation marks or something).. but I just renamed my ntfs drive in windows to one without spaces and then this method works

For those who cannot see the disk: 1] Open Spotlight (cmd+Space-bar) 2] Start typing and open "Disk Utility" 3] On the left side of Disk Utility you should see your disk 4] Right-Click on it and open it in finder 5] You can write / read like after doing this tutorial. .... There is a fail in mounting the disk. We could do it different for long-term : ... 1] Open Finder 2] Command + Shift + G to get to "Go To Folder" 3] Type: "/Volumes" and press enter 4] You can see your disk here too 5] Drag disk to left panel under Favourites section 6] Now, everytime you plug that disk into computer, it will appear under Favourites section Enjoy :]

What you had said is working fine. I can able to copy in NTFS drive now, but I have a problem. While copying any folder to NTFS drive and I use the same folder in Windows OS, It shows empty and told me to update the permission. Sometimes files got corrupted.

Hello everyone, after write this command you need to disconnect the hard drive and connect again. Try to move some file to drive and maybe will ask to put your password... Open the harddrive folder and drop your files inside. Thank you Jinus ;)
