Mr magic was his nickname and there was a reason for that. Insanely talented player who could embarrass any goalie. The 1994 Olympic gold medal shootout between CAN Vs SWE with the famous Forsberg one is copied from Nilsson from a WC hockey championship game back in 85 if I remember correctly. I say it again, Mr Magic.

Kent Nilsson might be one of the most underrated players in NHL HISTORY. He had 131 points one season, the Flames franchise record. Back in the day Gretzky said Kent Nilsson was the most skilled player he ever played against. Nilsson also had 2 dominant years in the WHA & when Nilsson went to Edmonton, which was one of the weirdest things ever to see (think of Gretzky or Messier in a Flames jersey), Kent played on a line with Messier and Anderson which was one of the coolest and most talented lines in Oilers history

Very interesting trade tree with some huge NHL stars. One mistake you made though was Joe Nieuwendyk scored 51 goals in his fantastic rookie season, not 55. Kent Nilsson in the 87 playoffs was fantastic for Edmonton. He was so great that the only way The Flyers could slow him down in The Finals was Ron Hextall doing his Paul Bunyan imitation on Nilsson's leg. As for the Nieuwendyk/Iginla trade I remember that very well. (I'm 52 and remember things like this!) Dallas traded a top prospect (Iginla) for the current superstar they needed to help win The Cup (Nieuwendyk). Calgary was rebuilding and wanted young talent for old, which is what they got in abundance.

I know you did a Pronger trade tree, but that all started with Shanahan and Pronger. Blues trading Brendan Shanahan led to the Blues winning a Stanley Cup 14 years later. Shanahan for Pronger 1 for 1. Shanahan then went on to Detroit, Pronger went on to Edmonton which then gave the Blues Brewer who the Blues then used to get a 3rd round pick from Tampa Bay who turned out to be Jordan Binnington.

Another odd fact was Nilsson was drafted TWICE by the Flames; first as Torbjorn Nilsson (NOT his name so the selection was invalid) and then as Kent Nilsson the next year higher up in the draft. Wayne Gretzky was very complementary about him in an interview about the most skilled players he had ever seen in the NHL. He still holds the team single season points and assist records for the Flames...over 30 years later.

I've suggested the Brett Hull trade tree before, but I'll do it again because: -It's another Flames trade, albeit one that _didn't_ really pan out for them in the end; -Based on the players Calgary got, I'm pretty sure it would also involve the Doug Gilmour trade tree; -I think the initial trade would be a very good example of how a team can arguably both win _and_ lose a trade.

Funny thing about Iggy not going to Boston in 2013? "I had NO IDEA how great of a player David Krejci was! Had I known I would've gone there." BUT, Iggy wasn't going to be playing with DK in 2013! He was going to play with Bergy & Marchand. Julian was NOT going to break up the DK, Horton & Lucic line barring an injury. So Jagr wouldn't have come to Boston to help the B's on another run. Like holland's bone head '99 tdl moves to bring in chelios, as well as old broken down wendell clark, ulfie samuelsson, and bill ranford. Moves that made wings look old and tired and killed any chance wings had to three peat. Funny part of those moves is that chelios at 37 was supposed to be finished. He played with wings till '08 winning two more cups with them. Kinda similar to the pens '13 tdl shero moves to bring in every old guy they could find. Like the above mentioned Iginla whose best days were behind him, as well as b morrow, j. jokinen, and douglas murray. Moves that made the pens slow as s#it and iginla did not fit on pens as well. Kent Nilsson basically came to Edmonton as a rental. The story goes that since Nilsson was notoriously adverse to going into corners and any rough going despite his huge offensive skills, Mark Messier took him aside. Messier was alleged to told him "Look you Swedish puke, you are going to play the way I tell you or I'm going to (nature of threat not specified, but allegedly contained many expletives and threats of bodily harm) Nilsson returned to Sweden for the next season but made a brief (six game) appearance with the Oilers in 1995.
