Over the last few years stand up comedian Nigel Ng's character Uncle Roger has helped destroy the reputation of Jamie Oliver by exposing his lack of knowledge and skills in the Asian cuisine world. Most notably by roasting his egg fried rice.....

It's one of the things alot of people I think over-look with Gordon Ramsey. He's an asshole on TV because it's part of his persona now, especially in US tv, that said he's just passionate about food. Even with the Pad Thai he asks "Okay, I fucked it up, show me!", he's not above critique and wanting to learn to honor the food's roots he is making. I forget which of his shows but someone states "I want to make one of your dishes", a dessert Gordon points out typically takes *HOURS* to make and he does it in 45 minutes but changing it ever so slightly. Gordon walks up, tries it, without saying a fucking word goes back to his seat and then returns and essentially without saying it outright stresses that he's impressed as hell and the look on his face before his return is like "Well fuck me, he outdid me at one of my own desserts in a 1/3rd the time". He's rude, a bit crude at time but so was his mentor.

Nothing is worse than people who can’t take a joke. Quite a few of the people he has made vids on have then made vids with him or have at least had a laugh in the comments to show they are cool with it. Jamie must have been aware of it all but never said anything giving an indication he’s a bit salty about it all.

Believe it or not, but Jamie Oliver was the "cool" TV chef in the early 2000s UK. Young and willing do fusion recipes that broke the rules, he got young people to watch cookery programs, something that was almost strictly for older audiences. Words like cultural appropriation didn't even exist, everyone was just happy to have their minds blown with new food, many of which was under represented in the UK. Ofcourse he turned into a business man of selling cheap Italian food like pasta and pizza, in small portions for high prices. The reality is after the financial crash, people couldn't afford to waste money like this anymore, fast casual became more competitive.

The sugar tax ruined Lucozade. It was the perfect hypo stop for me. Being a diabetic I need a decent drink to raise my sugar quickly if it drops. Lucozade did this perfectly, and kept it up so it wouldn't start dropping again. They halved the sugar content, and replaced it with sweeteners. Now it doesn't work as good. In fact nearly all non-diet drinks now do this. They bulk up the sweetness with sweeteners. So now we all drink more chemicals. Only Coca-Cola is still full sugar. Thanks a lot, Jamie.

I think the difference between Ramsey and Oliver is that Ramsey basically plays a caricature of himself in his shows (Kitchen Nightmares and so on, not his cooking shows) and Oliver is a case of WYSIWYG whatever show he's in. Ramsey is smart enough to know when to laugh at himself (at least publicly). I'm pretty sure that if uncle Roger roasted him, Ramsey STILL would have met up with uncle Roger.
@Electromash92

yeah, idk who the real gordan ramsay is.... but i like what he shows on his shows. people have their complaints about him too. i just.... if the shows are good, i'll watch. getting too deep into the people gets exhausting. i've seen gordon learn from other people's feedback and that's the sign of a master chef imho. to always consider what is said and constantly endeavor to improve. i'm not a fan of egos where they narcissistically can do nothing wrong. haven't seen enough of jamie to know that he's one of those but kinda sounds like he might. like musk. shame. but i'll withhold opinions till i encounter it with my own eyes. the few things i saw were impressive and i'd had a good impression of him. the sugar ted talk was powerful and the cooking episode with some kids was actually to the point, and showing simple but effective cooking.

I'd say the difference is that Gordon Ramsey learns and adapts, where Jamie figured out one way he sells things and stuck with it, too lazy to actually learn anything past that point. Gordon acts very differently on his American shows compared to the UK shows, because he got larger audiences with the more abrasive personality in America but not in the UK. Kitchen Nightmares being the most obvious comparison. Jamie is Jamie no matter where he is and he barely knows Italian cooking (which he supposedly specializes in), let alone any other culture.

Changing the dish isn't cultural appropriation, but making a mostly or completely different dish and calling it a "Foreign dish" is. We're talking about Jamie Oliver. Not someone who used bacon instead guanciale in a Carbonara.

Unintended consequences of simplistic solutions to complex problems - that's Janie's problem. Why are sugary drinks and greasy fast food a problem contributing to the obesity epidemic, esp among the poor? Because good quality healthy food is more expensive. The solution: some way of making good quality healthy foods MORE accessible, not making junk food less accessible. 99.9% of parents WANT to do the best by their kids, the sad fact is the poorest fraction of those 99.9% of parents can only afford to consider calories and volume, so they buy the foods that provide the most calories for the lowest cost. Many low income communities live in food deserts, where the only food shops in reasonable distance are convenience stores and low cost take aways. These parents have to think about spending what little money they have just to get to a shop that sells healthy food, meaning even less money to spend on food.

It’s like Jamie identified what a proper cause of action/response was and did the exact opposite.

You guys are crap. You just look at a few clips and pieces, and make up your mind about a person instantly with no research or regards to their actual total work or life or personality. Jamie did alot of good over the years, of course he cannot perfect every recipe, but his style was for audiences in general homes in the 90s and 00s, and most people in western kitchens in that time don't have access to most ingredients needed for overseas dishes. Now with social media and the internet shopping, and many western countries becoming more multicultural, it is becoming more convenient for everyone to buy whatever and try to make things more authentic. I think it's crap you guys slam him just because he made a few 'general' dishes, using limited household ingredients. I'd like to see people try to cook the thousands of recipes his done. Yeah not all will be bangers, but dam, he has made alot of proper recipes over the years. And really helped bring a positive message with regards to health and understanding of foods.

I totally think what Jamie Oliver did for school kids is absolutely amazing. You're gonna get hated when you fight against the big food industrial complex. Not that he has a likeable character, but still huge respect for what was done.

Too bad he was a jerk to lunch ladies

@@rakantopinibl5736 He is not an amiable person. That should not diminish his deeds. By removing sugary beverages from school grounds, lives are saved and misery reduced. There is a chronic cardiovascular disease epidemic in the UK. People are dying younger due to poor dietary habits. Addressing the problem is way more important than not being a jerk, if he can only do either one. Of course, best if he can do both, but you know it isn't easy when the world media wants you cancelled.

@kenneth6102 I don't want Jaimie to be cancelled, I hate cancel culture. His war against sugary beverage is a great idea but his entitlement destroyed, in my opinion, the good work he had put in his campaigns. And I'm always on the fence when famous people share with their would be customers, their political views by expecting is to follow. Whether we like Brexit or not, Jaimie should have kept his opinion to himself and that's one of the reasons I stopped caring and watching his content.

@@rakantopinibl5736 It's unfortunate for Jamie, but it's the same entitlement that pushed him to run the campaign. Pride can be a double edged sword. I can't judge him because I don't think I can do better in his shoes whilst accomplishing that outcome. Entitlement is impossible to avoid when you fight an uphill battle on the side of justice. That is why The Dark Knight Trilogy (batman) was so great. Sometimes we look up to celebrities delusionally. They have success and expertise in their specific fields and industries, it is our fault to listen them when they talk outside their expertise, especially when the advice of actual experts of the specific subject matters contradicts.
