I remember programmes with the likes of Bear Grylls etc in the wilderness and of course then finding out it was staged and they stayed in hotels etc. Then you have Jeremy Wade who literally went miles if the beaten track and survived a plane crash and maleria and who slept in tents and hammocks in trees. Jeremy Wade was and is the real thing and some of the river monsters he caught blew my mind.

@LeDank

Bear Grylls never claimed to be spending days in the wilderness surviving while filming. He was just giving survival tips. People got confused because Les Stroud was doing the actual survival thing at the same time.
@notleviathan855
@notleviathan855 10 месяцев назад
To be fair, bear grylls never said he was out there spending days on challenges. The entire point of the show was 'this is a real world situation that happened, and here is how you should get out of it with the equipment you've brought.' There's some points during episodes where he mentions eating premade survival meals with the crew/drinking water because it was so brutal. With that being said, everything he ate was real. Drinking his own piss, eating embryo, squeezing water out of elephant poop, and eating grubs. He's also admitted this openly both during/after his shows air/cancellation on interviews.

I havent caught many fish, but from what I HAVE caught, it's really just a shit ton of luck stacked like a pancake. Sure there's some skill, but you need mountains of luck to find the right fish, hook said fish, then LAND said fish. Any number of things can go wrong. Predation, snags, it spits the hook or bites through it, line or rod snaps.

Jeremy Wade is a true superstar for our times. For me personally, as a fisherman myself, he was a breath of fresh air who came at fishing with a scientific, subdued, reverent approach, when almost every other fishing TV show featured frat-bro hosts treating fishing like a sport. He never had to compromise what he thought or felt; what you saw onscreen was the man himself. What a legend

I would always watch River Monster marathons on the weekends whenever they would air. And my grandpa was a huge River Monster fan, and we would talk about episodes on bike rides and what it would be like to encounter some of the fish he catches. I still vividly remember how he went on about how amazing the oarfish was, and how great it would be to be able to see one in person, but we are both scared to death of the open ocean. Jeremy’s passion for fishing was contagious when I was younger. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be into fishing as much as I still am

Watching him is what made me physically go to the Brazilian Amazon and fish on an expedition. Man it was freaking brutal the Amazon lives up to its name! Crazy how they brought whole filming crews deep into the jungle.

This video was actually the first time I've heard of this guy. Not even memes (screw twitter screw tiktok screw people my age) and this guy is EASILY among the coolest people I've ever heard of. Plane crashes, his arm gets wrecked, and he *investigates, solves, and catches the perpetrator of a string of murders*

I remember the first episode I saw where he goes after the guch catfish in the Himalayan mountains. It was like 2 hours of him tracking this thing. He built it up like it was going to be this insane monster fish. He showed what a small one looked like and then showed how it was a catfish with actual teeth. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up because I was like if that thing can get as big as he says that is an actual River monster. Of course he goes on this quest and it comes to the end where he’s realing in the fish. He risks his life rod in hand and jumps in the river to save the line. I was like he’s not gonna catch anything crazy that’s always how these shows workout on TV! Dude him and like three other dudes grabbed this fish by the tail and as they pulled it onto the bank it thrashed and it’s head came out of the water. I felt my jaw hit the floor, I was almost in shock! From that point on I was an avid River Monsters fan thank you Jeremy.

I love Jeremy Wade, i discovered the guy when this show was on tv years ago and then watched every one of his episodes online, saw dark waters, amazing guy. His techniques and enthusiasm got me into fishing and weird places as well, and no one in my family goes fishing either.

@@aarondavies8486 I can not imagine mate. I am from a county with no real rivers to fish but do own a fishery which they have been really supportive to get under privileged children into the sport.
