This game was Vanillaware’s second time of either succeeding or going broke, and from what I hear they are definitely wining. Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy, need to clear up some of my backlog of games.

While the story may be simple, I still say that it's league's better than what we had with fire emblem Engage, because the characters actually feel like characters and they get more involved and also our main Lord doesn't look like a g****** toothpaste commercial or someone's OC. Not to mention this game does not shirk off the whole romance that you can get with a character by saying things like and then they became friends like no we're clearly banging the hot childhood friend, the hot dark-skinned elf, the hot other dark-skinned elf, the attractive blonde elf, the owl, the Wolf and many many other women..... Seriously what the hell fire emblem. Not to mention the gameplay is different enough to where you can actually make very good strategies and build different team compositions and the art is so good. I always love this particular artist because he always does great work with what he ends up doing and this game is no exception which is why I'm definitely gonna be getting this because I skipped 13 sentinels specifically because while I liked the art of that 1, I was not a huge fan of the gameplay or lack of it which basically opted for more of a visual novel type of plot. Unicorn overlord definitely gives me what I wanted and I am very happy that it is successful. Great job with the video!

I'm getting more and more comfortable with the idea that a predictable story is fine if it's executed well; a good "predictable" story rewards players for paying attention and speculating on things. I guessed a lot of the twists ahead of time, but none of them felt poorly executed. A bit trope-y, but I didn't hate any of the reveals. I think many of the villain motives were generally understandable too, and even the control magic that seems pretty one-dimensional has another dimension to it revealed. Also, I'm glad they didn't censor stuff like Virginia's romance option. Regardless of what people think about that, that shows they aren't trying to be super censorious or restrictive.

@@rOvertJusticewhen the mind control was first introduced, I thought it was pretty lame and uninteresting, and didn't like to think that everyone I fought were going to be brainwashed goons. First, there were way fewer mind controlled than I thought. Two, after that one reveal, it felt less contrived than I first thought

I bought this last night and havent stopped playing lol. Atlus did Ogre Battle 64, one of the very best games to grace the nintendo 64. Awesome game, highly recommend

I love this game - for sure recommend Expert mode - normal felt very easy. I'm about 2/3rds the way through with one full area to go and the end stuff 80 hours so far. i'm sure Ill be well over 100 hours by the end. Pretty good value out of a console game these days. The tactics and tinkering are very fun to engage with.

Yup, kinda lacking in its replayability (harder difficulty seems not enough), it also doesn't help that promoting units don't have branching classes (which would help make a new flair in its replayability)

It looks great, it runs great, has a great battle system, the story is good, characters are interesting and well designed, and most importantly it doesn’t try to shame the players or do things we won’t like.

I've actually had some performance issues on the switch, which is shocking for a 2d game. Sometimes it can take 10+ seconds for a cutscenes to load, and on the chunkier endgame maps, it can take over a second to open the status menu.

What got me to buy the game was a recommendation from a couple of RU-vidrs I watched and the demo. The demo was pretty long and the save file was transferrable to the game.

Been a Vanilleware fan since 2008. Not Happening on pc. Kamitani, the CEO and main artist of all Vanillaware games ever created has gone on record saying he'd rather see the company fail than give the game away to thieves.

@@almostontimehero5415 I respect that, although that means I'll probably never play any of Vanillaware's games as I stopped buying consoles after the PS2/xbox 360. But I'm glad that such as good game is doing well. To play devils advocate, it may not matter what the Kamitani wants as with most companies if they get bought out by another then they might port some of the older games to PC. Squaresoft which merged with Enix ended up doing this so time will tell.

It’s sold out legit everywhere here too lol I called every where that sells games and it was sold out. Had to buy it from amazon with a 2 weeks away delivery. It’s coming next week and can’t wait to play the demo was so fun.

I almost forgot that I have a life because of this game. This is so great, the tactics, the animation and they really gave a lot on this game. I love 13 sentinels but Unicord overlord is on a different level.

The thing I love about Unicorn Overlord is the addition of races outside of humans. Wish Fire Emblem integrated more different species into their games and not just human and human + mount units.

Got a switch for my kids two years ago and only this year have I gotten around to playing it. Beat Metroid Dread, Mario RPG, Fire Emblem 3 Houses which took me 3 months to beat 4 houses. Unicorn Overlord is better for different reasons. Its the best parts of Fire Emblem with none of the bad.

The game gets an overwhelming positive reception for me but I have one gripe with the game. There is literally no point in turning down any character's request to join. It's like, why bother giving us the choice if it has very few impacts to kill a character. Like, imagine if you go on an actual execution spree and some people are hesitant to hear your approach. What if it unlocks different, more zealous characters if you try to become a Justicar oriented character but also alienates your more reasonable existing characters? What if you did recruit a character and they could stab you in the back later? With the way the game is presented, I see no real reason to kill recruitable characters unless I want to make Alain that way and even then, there is no like "Dark Alain" ending for doing so. Other than that, the presentation and gameplay are a breath of fresh air and has gotten me sunk into hours. I literally went out and pre-ordered the game the minute I played the demo. It's superb overall and I'd give it an 9.5/10.

I am drowning in the Quagmire of P3R, SO2 R and FF7 Rebirth. Im in november in P3R, 6 hours in in SO2 and on Chapter 12 and 124 hours played in FF7 rebirth. Japan please stop releasing bangers. Give me a month for the love of God.

It’s kind of funny by not subverting fantasy story telling tropes……they subverted modern fantasy story telling, Let me ask you when was the last time you played a game where elves were not ostracized, suffered extreme racism and prejudice? I watched a let’s player play the opening and he just assumed at some point “yeah Lex your way to good friends with the prince, your going to betray us at some point”

Even the fanservice is subversive, despite being pretty tame compared to lots of games from a decade ago. Maybe 10% of the classes are somewhat fanservice-y, and maybe 2 of the 50+ classes are blatant fanservice. Nowadays, that would usually be enough to draw some critique, but in the case if UO, it feels fairly natural. It's both an homage to classic fantasy tropes, and a reflection of the fact that, even in real life, some people enjoy acting provocatively.

the game is easy on expert but there's an even harder mode to unlock after you beat it on expert. its still not super hard but its hard enough for a first game in a new IP.

Only problem i really have with Vanillwares games is that they somehow suck at creating memorable villains. I mean the big evil general looks kinda boring and his character as well is just not entertaining. Game is good though.

There’s a lot of lore that comes out when you get around to the sanctuaries. It’s unfortunate though that there’s very little alluding to most of it throughout the course of the story.

It’s not the most unconventional story but I would say it’s pretty well executed for what it’s worth. The characters are likeable, the pacing is good, and there’s a great sense of actual progression

The dialogue is careful and immersive?!?! My. GOODNESS. Do not believe that line. If you value quality and appropriate use of language, particularly archaic language, it’s rough. I regularly was laughing at the awkward dialogue. It felt like what a high schooler thinks Arthurian speech would have been like. I love this game. I have spent 90 hours in it over the last two weeks. But the dialogue is often just laughably rough. I understand translation is really hard and I greatly appreciate the work that was done and don’t want anyone who worked on it to feel bad about the job they did. You all made a game that was amazing. Just…don’t expect Shakespeare.
