Walter White, as we initially meet him, is a man who has spent his entire life making safe choices, following the rules, and suppressing his desires for success and recognition. His life is marked by missed opportunities, regrets, and a growing sense of frustration. In the first season, Walter White is confronted with the financial burden of his cancer treatment. He has a desire to secure his family's future, to be able to do this he must make drastic changes to the way he's been doing things. So, Walter partners with his former student, Jesse Pinkman.
