A very nice story about you guys. My wife Sharon and I have been watching your videos for the last 3 months on RU-vid. I’m a old (83yrs) old Chinese photographer who learned with a 4x5 BW studio camera. I love the way you guys frame and shoot your videos. I now shoot with my IPhone Pro Max. I like posting on Facebook (David Tom from Oakland, CA) with my photos to try to tell my daily stories. I like to keep it to no more than 5 photos per collage. Keep up the good work! David & Sharon 🤙📹❤
Love your genuine and honest story. I too was a freelance designer back in 1993 until 2004. I was a full time employee for 10 years before I took the plunge. It was scary, but exciting at the same time. Like you, It was my best career decision; I got to learn AND earn more. Like you said, it was not an easy journey, but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. I’m now 62 and retired from design, but am still spending time in creative work like sewing and machine embroider my bag own designs (as a hobby for now). Maybe I’ll turn it into a full time (freelance) gig later thanks to your inspiring video on how you used social media to let others know about your work.
@unikcreations2258Good on you! I love to hear that! Your still doing the thing you love. Your now inspiring me ! I did makeup artistry as a business, before my daughter was born. But after she came along, I only did it here and there and it faded away. But I still love the creativity of makeup and beauty . I’m on Instagram and just started tiktok too. Definitely showcase your work on social media . It’s a lot of fun and we all get , to see your beautiful work. I’m 50 and sometimes feel that because I’m not in my 20’s and 30’s people won’t be as interested by my content. But since being on tiktok I see that’s so not the case . Good luck with your creations . ❤
Super interesting video! I think a lot of the advice and stories you guys shared are super useful even for people who are not in an artistic field. Personally, I am a graduate student and one of the most valuable things I have learned is to put yourself out there and share your work as much as possible - it opens up so many opportunities for both critical feedback and employment! Nothing happens overnight, but I definitely agree that if you are dedicated to what you are interested in, work hard, and "treat it as your baby," good things will happen :)
Thanks a lot for watching all 27 minutes of it lol. And yes - so happy you agree with that. One of the most valuable things is to just keep creating content that you find interest in and share that work out there as much as you can. You will never know what opportunities will open up for you! So glad you enjoyed this! - Victor
Thankyou so much for being open and explaining your journey from full time to freelance photographers. I found it so interesting to hear how you began . I especially enjoyed , hearing about what things you studied in university. Which is the first and probably , most important building block for your future. Then where you both went from there. I think you both are so engaging, warm, and talented, and inspiring. I love fashion and beauty, and creating images myself. So this was so cool to listen to. I will save this video and definitely re watch . ❤
RU-vid recommended one of your videos and I spent the entire afternoon watching your channel (recent videos and much older ones to discover your story). I really enjoyed them! love your creativity, the way you present the topics, the insights, the images, your honest and warm way of talking. Congratulations! I always thought Hong Kong is a beautiful destination, but your videos make it even more attractive. I hope to visit it one day. Keep up the fantastic work! Greetings from Belgium
Thank you for sharing your story....its so much better having control of your life than having someone control you. Really enjoying your vlogs! Cheers 🥂
Ooooo had no idea Vic you worked for DigitalRev! I used to watch them a lot haha. Really enjoyed this vlog and you guys sharing more in depth. So happy for you two for growing as freelancers :D I truly admire you two
At Sam - My mom was exactly like that too, I moved to HK & she was like "you need to get a job" then I went & worked for whoever was the first to give me a job. I ended up as a sales associate at luxury brand store (hated it). What happened in your late 20s is what I'm going through right now, but you found your creative soulmate to help you through. I'm still reaching out to creatives, people who inspire me in hope that I can better myself. Thank you both for sharing your stories.
Thanks for sharing about your journey, Zara! Cheering you on as you look for likeminded creatives! I really believe if you invest in your creative work, you'll attract people naturally :) -Sam
Not a freelancer, but doing comms in the nonprofit sector is also a rollercoaster ride - this is so relatable and reassuring LOL. Also love hearing your stories!
Hi Thu! The nonprofit sector must be really hard- and I'd imagine any job whether full time or freelance takes a lot of patience and hard work. Thanks for your input :) -Sam
I reached your video randomly and I really loved it! I am a 'half' freelancer who is still looking for a full-time job in creative industry and client but ones you have few decent clients, it will be more easy to decide to be a full-time freelancer. Also, have to think that sometimes the freelancing job makes you feel unsafe financially so be prepared but as a photographer/videographer, one of the best things is that you can travel and work at the same time which I really love to be a freelancer. I am still struggling to find a more decent client since I relocated to Berlin but hope I can be a full-time freelancer like you guys :) Thank you for sharing your stories and I really enjoyed it! xxx
I watched this video again, in which Victor talked about his 1st IG post taken in Hamilton, and after I watched you two’s travel vlog in Hamilton, it’s such an interesting experience
Hey Sam! I don’t comment ever BUT I loved your blog for years and I still have the bookmark to it on all my devices despite the fact you’re not posting there. RU-vid just recommended a video to me and I thought, damn this girl looks like SamisHome and omg, it was you. For a minute it brought me back to my young years when I was scrolling your blog and was just enjoying the fact that there are people which aesthetics was so close to mine, and I was dreaming about the places you were shooting and the life that you had. I hear in this video that life back then was kind of difficult for you, so I just want to tell you that everything you did was so worth it and inspiring to others ♥️ I’m happy that you are now on RU-vid and wishing you the very best in all! 🌸
Hi Mariyana! Wow you have no idea how much that means to me- especially as someone who has been following since my blog days (how times have changed). Thank you for letting me know this! Those were definitely confusing times but I wouldn't change any of it! Hope you are well too and thanks again for dropping by to say hi :)
You guys are such a good team! Thank you for sharing 2 different journeys. So much inspo! It’s literally what I wake up and look forward to seeing everyday! 😍
Was searching for FOGO Inn and your video came up, then started watching your other episodes. Congratulation on your success and hard work from a fellow Canuck. You guys came a long way in the last few years 😉
great overview of the journey and personal context behind the choices. i really appreciate your vlogs even more because of this - thanks for the contentz!
Thank you so much for sharing this video! It was very helpful for me personally cause i feel like i'm in the same situation as Sam was before. Turning 25 this year and i feel like i have no idea on what i want to do in life. Hopefully i find my path real soon! ✨
Hi Nicole! I'm a little older than you so I get how you feel! I truly believe a lot of it just comes with age and trying things out, tweaking it as you go. I know you'll succeed on the long run wherever your path takes you! -Sam
This is so weird - I used to follow Sam’s Tumblr for her OOTD, then followed her to the blog, and wondered how she could afford to travel around Asia so much. I just could not figure out what she was doing to support herself (and it turns out neither did she). I stopped reading fashion blogs once IG took off and forgot about all those bloggers I used to follow, and out of the blue today IG suggested a Sam post on home renovations today that I followed to the home reno video, where I realized you’re the same Sam from those old blogger days! I’ve come full circle with your digital life, and this was certainly interesting to watch as an explainer for your old content.
Hi amanda! Wow you're super OG OG then! Wow then you know the whole backstory then since my tumblr (and blog) is kinda dead. Thanks for stopping by! :) -Sam
@@SamandVictor Ha, that makes me feel SO OLD. I'm glad you found your footing though. And also love. I feel like I've watched you grow up into adulthood!
Hey! Loved hearing your guys journey and a lot of helpful information. Been following along for a while and love your style on IG. Hoping to take the leap myself in the near future ✌️
I can relate so much to you guys after watching this video. :) I am also in my 5yrs of Freelance Journey and still up and down. So many times that I want to quit even though I am the boss lol. But I am still enjoying this journey even though there were so many bumps with collecting client payments and so on! Love your youtube channel a lot and hope to see more stories from you two :) cheers!
Thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us! You guys are creating amazing content and your videos have been super informative to watch :)
could you guys do a video on how you use lightroom? just the basics or tips that you've picked up over time would be good, or a walkthrough of the thought process you use while editing photos! thanks for making these videos :)
Hi Eugenia! We were actually discussing this today- to do a series of shorter more tutorial videos for you guys and you sharing this definitely confirms that we should share about the editing! -Sam
This is soooo informative. Thank you for sharing :) I'm currently just entering my late twenties, and I have been feeling so behind everyone (+ no boyfriend LOL same as you). Currently also looking for new job too, and totally lost. I feel better now :)
woww nice 1st video! what Teleconverter do you use? And the sony? You see, I wanna start practicing with my photos too. and if I go travel, a handy, light mini camera is needed instead of taking out my heavy dslr to everywhere lol
Yes! Our favorite snack while editing vlogs/ photos is definitely the eggtart. And yes it's quite a long vlog this time - thanks for watching John/ Malie! - Victor
@@SamandVictor Hey guys, really enjoyed listening to both your stories and backgrounds. Really inspiring and you're both quite articulate and natural speakers. Thanks for sharing!
BRIAN! Haha always with the first comment. Appreciate the support on these vlogs bro! And yea, you that friend that borrowed me your camera for my first paid gig of shooting sandwiches lol. - Victor
My first paid photography gig was to shoot sandwiches too, It didn't pay much, but the manager at that restaurant was cool, we had a lot of fun and even more free sandwiches.
Do you know what your ethnicities or tribes are? Have you tried finding out where your families really are from? Are you with the right people? Are you spending time with the right person? Family first. Are your sure you are supposed to kneel before her? She is not your other half, stop wasting time with her. Your family is sad that you are not spending time with them. Water is what makes you feel good.
