We get a lot of questions about how we plan our elaborate road trips so we decided to show you! A whole lot goes into planning compared to a normal vacation, especially if you are trying to travel without spending too much money, which is exactly what we try to do. In this vlog we talk about how we choose our destinations, how we shop for flights & car rentals, how we map out our full trip, & booking our stays. We have some tips and tricks on the ways we save money & our mindset when planning each day!
If you have any questions, shoot us a comment & we'll be happy to answer!

I'm a retired old lady.(66)....but I plan road trips the same way you do. Research all the platforms, drop pins on a my.maps, route it out on google maps, etc. and I also make a daily itinerary that goes into a folder with page protectors. I just pull out the page(s) of the day. I drop any printed tickets, reservations in there too, just in case there's no cell service. I am going on a 64-day, almost all solo (a couple weeks with a friend for part of it) road trip cross country and back from CA this fall. Your New England stuff was very helpful, as this is a bucket list spot for me; and now I also know I will NOT be going on the Precipice Trail, so thanks! Lol.

That's amazing! And so smart with the folder idea and putting your tickets and things in there. I love that idea! You should definitely do a New England fall trip if you can. It is just so beautiful & the small towns are amazing! Thanks so much for commenting and watching!

Awesome video guys! Your tips are very helpful. I will be using some of them coming up, as just this week I have begun the process of planning a New England fall foliage trip for October 2026, for my wife and myself. It will be a retirement celebration for me and also a 40th anniversary celebration for the both of us. I watched your N.E. videos before just for fun, now I am going to go back and watch them again to see specifically where you went and what all that you did. You kids do a great job with your videos. Keep up the great work. I love how you both work together so well. Safe travels.

I just got back from Chicago. I downloaded an offline map to get around walking and using subways. Used data and cranked up the volume and just listened to the directions as my phone was safely zipped in my pocket.

Congratulations for traveling smart!. We met a young couple a little older than you two during a political campaign and became almost like second parents. They kept wondering if they should save for a house, retirement or travel. We both said, "Travel! Go while you're young, enjoy the world." They traveled Asia for months, staying in hostels, traveling by train, eating at street vendors. (It was fortunate since they eventually broke up - lol) But today neither regrets that journey. You use common sense and take advantage of any breaks. I was a consultant and frequently business trips became vacations in Hawaii, Belgium, Florida, Montreal, Juneau, San Fran. My boys were spoiled.

Thanks so much! We are definitely similar to that couple! We are traveling and living it up as much as we can! You're just never guaranteed tomorrow or good health, so while we are blessed to we want to continue as long as we can! That is so cool you were able to travel so much! We've never been to Hawaii so hope to go sometime in the future! Thanks for watching & for sharing! 🧡

@@JamesandMeg One note about Hawaii. Friends invited us to their "second" home in Kona (it was in Arch Digest) and the island was incredible. Fruit was available for the picking and we got freshly roasted Kona coffee each day. Then Honolulu - a disaster. It was like any other US city only with bad food (they knew it was a one-tie trip for most).

Awesome video. I love planning trips but... Need more specific help on the actual pinning and making a walking map in the cities. Safe travels!!

It can definitely be hard, and totally understand! The way we do it in cities is kind of the same way we plan them on the large scale. Pinning our favorite places to see in a town, mapping it out, & planning our day that way.

Discovered you guys from a Charleston video. Sounds like you live near ATL and have been to Charleston several times. Screw that crazy drive on 85 & 26. Southwest has been in Charleston for a while now. But Delta probably has half a dozen flights or more in & out of daily. No. It's not Southwest, But in some unique cases like Charleston it might be a better option. Southwest has crazy cheap flights from Charleston to Ft. Lauderdale.

Thanks for letting us know! Typically we like to drive that one, because after buying a ticket, parking at the airport, renting a car, it's much more expensive. And then the time you have to spend at the airport, ATL specifically, you really haven't saved that much time either. If we're ever in a crunch in the future, we'll definitely look into it!
