Also keep in mind that the Targaryens often give birth to children with draconic features, like Rhaenyras and Daemons girl Visenya. Pretty big hint that Targaryens/Valyrians share some dragon dna and likely also the other way around.

It's interesting because after the dragons die or at least didn't have any connection with targaryens anymore ( because we don't know the fate of some of them) the targaryen women and brides stop to have dragon-like stillborn even the ones that struggle the most like Queen Naerys and Queen Rhaella but this come again with Daenerys's Rhaego.

I think one of the greatest crimes against knowledge in Westeros is stupid King Baelor having Septon Barth's writings burned. Barth was obviously on the right track to uncovering the mysteries of how Valyria became a great dragonriding power.
@jamiswamp

To add to your dragon bond point, I recently reread A Dance With Dragons and during the chaos in Daznak’s pit, Drogon gets hurt by a spear and both him and Dany scream in unisson. HOTD also did that comparison when Rhaenyra was giving birth to Visenya and we could see Syrax screaming at the same time. I very much agree that human blood was mixed to create dragons, and to magically bond them to humans dragon blood may have been used to alter Valyrians of old. It’s a literal interpretation of what “blood of the dragon” means but I quite like it. Great video as always!

Firewyrms+wyverns+Valyrian blood magic=dragons. That theory is tied too neatly into a bow not to be correct. Now "dragons in the East" might indicate it was a pre-existing blood magic before the Valyrians that they just rediscovered.

Possibly, but id Ashaii created dragons how come they didn’t conquer the world? If they had dragons i’d assume at least the eastern Essos would be under their heel, but it wasn’t.

The Five Forts, dating back to the Great Empire of the Dawn, are made of fused stone. For that you need dragons. So dragons definitely existed before Valyria, and are likely the reason why the Great Empire of the Dawn was a great empire in the first place." I personally think the Valyrians' origin story is hogwahs, and they are the remnants of the Great Empire of the Dawn, which fell after the Long Night.

@@autje1970 Yeah I think the Valyrians were just a pocket of the GEOTD that survived. Same with whomever the Daynes and Hightowers are descended from. What made the Valyrians different from the other survivors is they seemed to retain a good bit of the advanced knowledge the GEOTD had.

@@stepanpazderka5497for reference, it's implied they the people of ashaii were in fact the great empire of the dawn, a massive empire which held a very large portion of Essos, and we see a couple of their remaining structures in Westeros, such as the fused stone fort in Old Town, which matches the five forts fused stone, and the daynes family sword "Dawn". It's also implied that these guys were dragon lords, as you can only make fused stone with dragons.

Speaking of Daemon and Caraxes, I think the best example of a dragon bond I've seen is when Nettles departs from Maidenpool and Caraxes roared so loud that all the windows of Jonquil's Tower shattered (CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS SCENE IN HOTD!). In my opinion, this was Caraxes feeling Daemon's pain of being seperated from his daughter; though it seems the show will go in a different direction (aside from the fact that they've established Daemon as an emotionally distant father so that grief over losing Nettles would be out of character). Nice job Quinn!

Perhaps the reason that the dragons kept getting smaller and died out, was because the magic degrades over time. Meaning that in order to maintain their dragons, the Valyrians had to continually create new broods. With horrifying blood magic rituals. Edit: YO WAIT A SECOND THE SCALY BABIES THE SCALY BABIES HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THIS I DON’T KNOW WHAT BUT THEY ARE CONNECTED I CAN SENSE IT

I definitely think Dragons are some sort or “abomination” of Fire in the word, with them being a chimera or firewyrms and men and wyverns, Weirwoods having the uncanny human features and the White Walkers also seem to be other types of “Abominations” of Earth and Ice. Also i think the Asshai’i made them first before showing the old shepards of Valyria how to do it or something Still great video!

Dragons are dramatic effect made flesh. One of the key yardsticks of a human character's moral and intellectual fitness is the extent to which they understand this. It's a fascinating commentary on the genre, and it's remarkable to think that the dragons were late additions to the original manuscript.

It kind of reminds me of the Dragonriders of Pern series. In the book Dragonsdawn, it was revealed that the dragons were genetically engineered by people to fend off an alien threat. They were made by mixing species and have the ability to bond with humans. It's been a while since I read it so I don't know the details but I wonder if there could be some connections

I like how George made them with two legs and wings attached to their arms, since a 6 limbed creature of that size doesn't exist and he thought it would look more grounded. I'm sure his dragons aren't the only ones to be like this, but it really sets them apart from other dragons in fiction.

I think it's notable to point out that dragons only seem to understand valyrian. So that reinforces the theory that valyrians created them, their commands to their "animals" might be spells, not just commands

So the hatching of Dany's dragons seemed to involve human sacrifice. And I wonder whether that was required to hatch dragons in the olden days too. I wonder if Aegon Dragonbane tried to hatch dragons without human sacrifice--due to his trauma from the dance, it makes sense that he might refuse to continue human sacrifice--and that's why the dragons died out. Which leads me to wonder: is the third head of the dragon the rider or is it the person whose blood was used to hatch the dragon? I think the Asshaii probably developed the original techniques to create dragons during the long night, and I think the Valyrians probably picked up where the Ashaii left off. If we see Valyria as the Rome of Planetos, it makes sense for Ashai to be the Greece of Planetos.

One aspect of the "Valyrians made dragons" theory that i like is it links dragons to nukes, living weapons that shouldn't exist. Better thematically. But it makes the world smaller, in a way, if one of its coolest monsters is man-made, not to mention it rules out the existence of other types of dragons by default of dragons are artificial.

I think the creation of the dragons involving horrific human experimentation fits with the themes of the novel as well. The dragons are tools of war and power. They exist to wreak violence and maintain power. They exist to create and defend empire. The books explore the uses and abuses of such power and how human beings are turned into so much meat by the endless wars fought to empower the few. Death in war is human sacrifice. The death of women to birth heirs as well. Humans sacrificed over and over again in the name of power... It just makes sense that some form of human sacrifice is involved in the creation of the books' greatest symbols of violent power, the dragons.

Could there perhaps be a 3rd type of dragon thing that was mixed together? Balerion came back with a giant slash on his side are we so sure it was from a wyrm? The dragons in hotD are so diverse in shape. Longboy Caraxes seems to have more wyrm in him than the others.

@@nidohime6233 Are firewyrms big enough to put a giant gash in Balerion though? I assumed their hands and arms would be tiny and that they would rather use their fire or teeth to attack a giant dragon. What if there's a third type of monster?

Meta response would be George’s own words on the dragons jn his world - ‘Paris made me put the dragons in’ But jokes aside! Love this video! And all of your videos. The creation of the dragons is fascinating and it’s upsetting to know we probably won’t get the information directly. @pentapus4606
@pentapus4606 5 месяцев назад
Another point to the firewyrm+wyvern theory is the size of dragons, both dragons and firewyrms grow to be massive while wyverns do not. It is notable that dragons seem to reproduce asexually and the fact the only know method of sex determination is if the dragon has laid eggs or not. This means dragons and their ancestors may not have the organs for humans to be involved in their creation (at least in the method(women) Valyrian tended to favorite when making hybrids), though other methods remain such as what the tapestry depicts and blood magic. I still believe the Valyrians have the blood of the children of the forest or an offshoot of them. The Bloodstone Emperor was said to take a tiger woman to wife and the CotF are described to have cat-like eyes, claws, and I'm sure some could have stripes rather than spots. The Valyrian's bond with dragons is not too different than skinchangers and dragondreams are similar to greendreams.

"Dragons are pretty cool.." This is why I always hate his interest in dragons as one argument for the Tyrion Targaryean theory. To me, it's odd that he's the only one. You'd think Brandon and Rickon would have dragon toys. Humans love dragons. Godzilla, one of the longest existing franchises that will not die, is basically a super giant dragon. Pokemon has dragons. Dragon Ball Z has a dragon (at least in the non-canon movies).
