As someone who's on the autism spectrum and deals with social anxiety, I have a lot of respect for Zach. He's someone who succeded in life not only in spite of his mental health struggles, but because of his personality and quirks that others might find aloof or odd. He's someone who's completely and unapologetically himself. I hope when he retires he gets to play golf barefoot, and work as a garbage man, and whatever other "weird" desires he may have. @@tellmewhenitsoverSome people find it easier to point and laugh than to feel empathy. And more people don’t really care about anyone’s mental health if there’s any sort of nuance to the symptoms. They’ll just take everything at face value. Suddenly, the enby with depression is lashing out because they have anger issues, not because they’ve spent the last 5 months in a pit of depression thinking about killing themselves and have no way to bent their emotions. The girl who zones out and lacks energy at work is clearly lazy, it’s not that she has undiagnosed autism and ADHD and is severely under-stimulated in a dead end job that she isn’t passionate about. The guy who sweats heavily in social situations doesn’t have severe social anxiety, he’s just smelly and doesn’t wash and everyone makes fun of him for it. The world is full of neurotypicals who have no idea what it’s like to be “wired differently” and think that depression is just sadness that can be cured by some time in the sun, drinking enough water and getting a good nights sleep. I’m so fucking tired of their bullshit. . . . Sorry to rant, I just needed to get it out of me.

ZG case is a pretty simple and straightforward: He exhibits traits of genius savants although it may not necessarily relate to IQ in the traditional (and very outdated) sense, since we know now that there are many areas of Intelligence Quotient -not just limited to space exploration and spacial ability. Part of that is the conflict of wanting to be the very best, but at the same time, not wanting to "show off" and maintain some sense of humility and uncertainty. Being "driven" plus a lot of other factors, made him this way. It's not good or bad. It's just him. There are a surprisingly many people out there (that aren't playing professional sports) that are out there -with traits resembling ZGs persona: gym, surfing, workplace, etc.

@@dm-gq5uj no, I’ve worked with neurodivergent people. It’s called having empathy and understanding someone. You can recognize someone else’s struggles and not hold it against them.

@@bradenculver7457 I am a special ed teacher so I certainly have empathy (and it's rather rude of you to assume I do not - you don't know me) What I do know is that you can have all the empathy in the world for autistic people and still find dealing with them difficult. It takes a lot of patience and most MLB players aren't trained in working with such people. If they get exasperated and upset, that doesn't mean they are bad or uncaring or lack empathy.

@@bradenculver7457 Why? It's no shame to say you have empathy for autistic kids and also that they can be very trying and wear down your patience. You might be a saint who is always sweetness and light, but alas, other people are just humans.

Throwing his fastball and change the same relative speed makes complete sense, it's genius. If he threw his fastball 96 it would be easily distinguished from the change. These guys are used to heat, they aren't used to two pitches that look exactly the same spotted to perfection.

I totally get him. I literally camp Out in the handicap toilet at washrooms in the malls and through the peephole I keep count on the number of people who wash their hands. And the number of do is staggering low. Like 3 in 10. That’s why I opt to do the ole Japanese bow instead of the shaking hands because chances are, 70% of those mofackers didn’t wash their hands

He’s not wrong. I worked at a Walmart for longer than I like to admit and I remember people regularly wouldn’t wash their hands after getting off the crapper. I saw the main guy who handled produce do it a couple of times. Like why is it so hard to wash your hands?
