I really appreciate Jim for his honesty. I hope and wish more mormons could be honest.

Thank you Steve for this interview , I appreciate and respect Bob Bennett more than before, I didn't know his commitment and Testimony to the church and the book of Mormon.I also understand Jim Bennett better than the last time he was on your show.

I really appreciate Jim’s defense of the Book of Mormon and the Restoration, and I’m sure Glenn Beck has made mistakes; but he (GB) has proven with his work that he’s one of the most passionate defenders of Liberty.

Jim is easily my favorite Mormon

Any son of a prominent politician, Jim Bennett being no exception, cannot objectively dissect the causes of their father’s re-election failure. I never watched Glen Beck a day in my life and long before Mike Lee ran to oppose Bob Bennett, I started being uncomfortable with Bob Bennett’s more centrist political views. While I was pleased that for the most part he was a reliable republican vote, (for example he rightfully opposed the Dodd Frank act while some of his republican colleagues voted for it) his rhetoric was moderate at a time when the democrats were starting to turn more hard core left and republicans right. Bob was slow to recognize his own party’s move right but Mike Lee was not. It was politically smart to jump on the Tea Party bandwagon but Bob was going to stay with the 1990’s political model that got him there no matter that a large percentage of both republicans and democrats were gravitating further from the center. Glen Beck didn’t create the ideology of the tea party, he simply recognized that political conservatives were shifting further right and capitalized on that shift. It’s easy to find a scape goat but hard to do a fair internal assessment. Bob Bennett was an honorable public servant who I admired and who served well. However, he lost for a dozen other reasons than because of a misstatement of Glen Beck. When you are in the hard knocks business of politics you need to surround yourself with those who can tell you hard truths and son’s of politicians with renown and cachet can never tell their father what they need to know. The poo in the pool anecdote turned out to be an apt metaphor for Jim Bennett’s role in his father’s failed re-election. I did enjoy his Howard Hughes stories and for the most part Jim is a great guy but there are a couple of areas in his LDS views where he seems a bit unanchored and off base.
