HP 15.6" 15-f272wm Disassemble 

On refurbished laptops they like to add some glue or something under the screws so they might come out to an extent but not all the way. To anyone having this issue, use a knife to wedge the screw upwards as you unscrew so that it can't move downwards. With any luck it'll eventually come out. Sometimes that doesn't work because the screw itself will come out at an angle and won't still centered, you'll need a decent set of pliers to twist it out the rest of the way and apply some light pressure as you twist consistently. I can't get the cover for the RAM to come off though. It's like they didn't want you to open it ever again.

seriously! I can NOTexpress the gratittude of you having this uploaded, i just got a new laptop cause my hp 15 was going to hell essentially, but i had alot of stuff on my hard drive and i had no idea how to go about grabbing it. so again, thnak you SO mcuh for uploading this

Grandma handed me her laptop as it does not seem to output display anymore (even with an external monitor.) Hopefully this will point me in the right direction. Thank you for your teardown.

This was so helpful! I have one of these that I replaced years ago and while it still technically works it is an absolute pain transferring the data to an external drive. I didn't realize until I tried to take it apart how complicated it is to access the hard drive. Thank you for the vid! Edit: well I did it, thanks to your video. Boy, they really don't want people opening these up do they? I literally had to rip it apart to get the hard drive out. Good thing this machine is destined for the laptop graveyard.

You really made taking the screws out of the DVD drive area look easy. I've been stuck on 1 screw for days now. It appears they have added threadlocker blue. Did you loosen the screws before recording? If so, what should I do to loosen the last screw? I've stripped out the screw head a small amount. I'm thinking of just drilling it out but I worry about the metal shavings

It took to the very end to see where the part I need to get replaced and where it was located with all the other stuff but now I know what I need to buy to replace it myself.

To remove the 3 DVD screws i luckily had a miniature magnetic screwdriver with a slight plus sign shape to it, from my mobile phone repair tool set (like 5-10$ on amazon) that worked after my normal screwdriver didn't. Lol. This model is tedious. I hate removing the keyboard. I guess I'll try to replace the HDD with an SSD, but I don't upgrade the RAM now. Under the mother board, after removing the keyboard, that's crazy.. I guess I'll just throw a 8GB RAM where the network card is and hope the 8/2 or 8/4 mixture is okay. Lol. My HP 15 cd040 is much simpler to upgrade. But even it requires a bit more effort than I prefer. I like the models where the HDD, network card and both RAM is accessible from one spot of their own simple areas, no keyboard removal or tedious steps. Heh. At any rate, thanks for this entire disassembly tutorial! Now I know all about my second HP (the model that I also have that this video is about). Kudos.

i have this same model laptop. i wanted to disassemble it to get it cleaned but as it turned out, i didn't have enough time at the moment so i didn't bother. however, i had already removed the RAM stick at that point, then put it back in, but now the computer doesn't turn on. it's trying to boot but it can't. it came up at one point and i was using it for a few minutes but the display went blank, and it hasn't booted up again after that.

be very careful with some of the newer cheapo replacement keyboards. I just revived one of these with Souls Budgie, did a bunch of upgrades, and replaced the keyboard. The $13 keyboards that you can find on amazon, have brittle plastic tabs, and they break if you try to take them out again. I left two screws out, under the keyboard, and had to go back in to place them. Every single plastic tab, on the brand new keyboard, broke.

I have a 15-f222wm. A lot of the teardown is similar but there's 3 screws I have to remove where the DVD drive is in. I was able to get one out but the other 2 ended up getting stripped. Now I'm trying to figure out how I can remove those 2. They were really tight to begin with and idk if any conventional method will work.

Hey so awesome video great follow along stuff but I got a problem where it seams that I have to press on certain areas of the laptop while it's going in order for it to continue it's process like downloading installing things like that and seams that when it's pressed on in around the same areas it blanks out my screen most of the time other times it just freezes the screen and I have to hard reset it now when the right spots are pressed the laptop runs fast otherwise it's always sluggish ... Idk what's going on do I need to replace my hard drive maybe clean out the inside what do you think?

I have repaired computers since 1984. This is one of the worst designs they have come up with yet. Most HP, are brilliantly simple and easy to access. Except for the large screen, this thing is a waste of time and money. Only ONE ram slot? Putting a solid state drive....it would have been easier to cut a hole in the bottom of the case.

I accidentally drop a glass of coke near the laptop and some over the keyboard. Few seconds later it shotdown. I took out the battery and lift up the keyboard. There were some drops under the plastic proteccions (the ones that protect from dust) i dried them with absorbent paper and im waiting to turn it on again.

I have this exact laptop. My son accidentally broke off his headphone jack inside and we have tried everything to get it out with no success. I am now trying to open it to see if I can remove it this way but am having a hard time getting it open. Any advice? I just need the headphone jack out!

anyone notice how horrible the cooling in this notebook is? and how badly it thermal throttle? No active cooling what so ever...what a dumb design...I put Linux Solus Budgie on one and it runs decent enough though. The original kept getting stuck in a Windows 10 update loop.

So another fan-less masterpiece from HP... generating enough heat to absolutely slow down healthy OS with doing simple multitasking.. On side note: even there still an openings to install a fan compatible with a H15 series, they seems "forget" to add a power connector, etc.. Piece of junk..
