I've been commenting about this specific SKU for months now on various videos (including yours) about laptops in this price range, as I thought someone else might find it beneficial (even if I can't buy one). It's been in & out of stock but I hope that something benefits from this awesome deal. The only thing I'd change is that RED backlight. Otherwise it's such a gaming powerhouse (with TB3, no Optimus) for such a good price.

costco had a 115w 2070 option for 1399 i also recommend that one if its still in stock, other than that i find the onboard audio lacking, but the onboard mic is indeed one of the best along with the webcam.

I've got the last year model with i7-9750H, 2070 MaxQ, 16GB RAM and 1TB NVMe. Been using it non stop as a desktop replacement at home. Even slot in a 1TB SSD in the empty bay (some variance comes with HDD in that bay with smaller NVMe). Connected a Thunderbolt hub to the port with portable USB drives, 32 inch HP Omen monitor and keyboard, mice all running from one port. Works like dream. Best bang for bucks if you are done with huge case taking up space in room and just want something simpler.

Every laptop you review seems to force the consumer to some compromise, whether it's thermal performance, glass trackpad, thunderbolt 3, display quality, tweakability, bang for the buck, whatever. Except that one, provided the aforementioned consumer (me) is looking for a thin and light super portable and super efficient beast. Is there such a competitor for the Max15? They ship to Italy, but boy the import taxes it would cost...I really hope you will answer this question, you and Jarrod's are the most reliable reviewers out there :)

a couple of days i got the 17 inch variant of this laptop with a full-fat RTX 2060 (115w) (i7 1075h + 16 ram), the 115w 2060 performs similar to the 90w 2070 max Q in almost all games, the temperatures are great while gaming (81c CPU, 70c GPU), the only downside is battery life as it could be better especially with such a big laptop, other than that the laptop is great.

Awesome review as always, the only deal breaker for me is the CPU, in my opinion there is no reason to go Intel over AMD right now. I will wait until someone will step up and put and AMD ryzen paired with a good GPU (not the 1660) inside the same chassis.

I bought the upper end model of this w/ 1TB NVME and added 32GB to it along with a 1TB 2.5" SSD. I've been able to unlock Undervolting on it as well and XMP (I now run 15-17-17-33 DDR4 2933). Overall it's a beast and I really enjoy using it.

Great review Bob. The responsiveness of the screen panel could be better but the overall image quality is very good. I didnt expect such a great build quality and price tag from HP. The nvme and ram can be easily sold and replaced with better ones.

This is cool. I own a HP 15 2019 i9 8core 9880H rtx2080 version (added 1tb of m.2 nvme samsung 970 pro by switching the inbuilt 512gb nvme)). And this i7 6core 10750 is practically more efficient. I wish they made a 2080 variant or something like that. Ubtil then i don't really feel the need to upgrde. Rest are all similar. Maybe 240Hz with RTX 2080 super. That would be absolutely awesome.

i have this one same specs but 2060 and 16gb mem 1tb storage its a good laptop , i do streaming with it plays any game with no problem, its worth the money but 30-- series out if youre looking to buy one id say wait and get the 3060/70/80 version

I got basically the 17” version of same laptop through Costco and it comes with 16GB of RAM, RTX 2070 max-p, 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD and also a 1TB 7200 rpm HD. All for $1499 and I think it is best bang for the bucks performance gaming laptop being offer at this time.

If you look for certified refurb, you can get the same machine with 16gb ram, 512 ssd and 1tb hdd for around 1150 with warranty, seems like a killer deal for someone on a budget ;)

Overall looks very nice, but not being able to adjust keyboard lighting (dimness) although seems like a minor thing IMHO is a major quality of life issue.

May I ask for an opinion on the metal chassis: how different do you feel it compared with the one of the 2020 Ryzen model?

Got my hp omen last year with rtx 2060 16gb ram and 256gb ssd and 1tb hard drive. And a 240hz display. For 1299 from eluktronics. I highly recommend them for laptop deals.

They should make a square omen(like the 2020 omen) with a mux switch and with a better lid. That will be an endgame laptop for so many people

I had bought a Hp oMen model 2018. Battery lasts only one hour. for me model of 2018 is a perfect design, there is no need to modify. only thing to change is Battery (6 cell) or more. I hope someday you have a 6 cell Battery to replace with mine. Thanks.

So no Gsync on this model? Thats a shame as mine has it. How about the TB3 port, when I first got mine and attached to an EGPU I would have all kinds of issues. Haven't tried it since because I ended up doing two system reinstalls.

OOOF... I was expecting this to run hotter than my Omen 8750H, but not this much... I guess undervolting/control is more useful than ~9% raw performance. In theory that is.

Hey Bob, I've got a lot of overheating issues with HP Omen. I got the 2018 model and when I do anything that's a bit heavy like rendering or playing valorant, my CPU temps hit 97degrees. after a while GUP also comes close to it. This is on default performance. if I switch it up to performance mode it gets even hotter. I've tried to undervolt it using the Intel Extreme tuning utility as suggested in one of your earlier videos but apparently the newer versions of BIOS doesn't allow manipulating the Core voltage offset. Any advice? Thanks in advance :)

Hey Bob i have a question so i am currently looking for a laptop because my HP omen 2016 model with gtx 1050 is not getting any faster for my demanding games titles. The laptop is great i did a lot of thermal management but im tired of the Red rgb or nothing keyboard lol. I have been doing a lot of research and i kept bringing myself back to the 2020 HP omen seem like such an amazing deal with AMD CPU. Im looking for mid performance gpu what would you pick? im looking at razer blade base 15 2070mq or the Hp omen 1660ti amd

I have previous version of this - with i7 9xxx but I have 240 Hz display and RGB keyboard. Strange how one model has so many variants. But how can you activate optimus? I did not found this option on any HP OMEN with G-Sync

"So what's the catch", Well Bob, the catch is, you can't find this on the Canadian HP website, not even close. They add 8Gb memory and upgrade the storage to 512GB. Difference doing the exchange from the US site to our site, is aprox $800.00 Cdn (Really, it costs that much for additional 8 ram and 256 memory?? TRASH!!) Since your HP Ryzen 7 review, I have been keeping an eye on HP products to upgrade my laptop from the Asus with a 1050 Ti, I bought last year. I do agree, and rather would add my own ram and better storage if I could get a good price on a decent laptop. Decent laptop means, good thermals, a good screen 144Hz or more at min of 100% sRGB with anti-glare and min 300 nits, large battery at 70 Wh Li-ion and up, mux switch would be nice, webcam at the right height with a mechanical closure (and why do they always make them at 720p??). easy access to ram, and storage, speakers more then 2w and pointing up instead of down, all metal body, precision glass touch pad, thunderbolt 3 with charging, Gen 2 USB 3.1, the ethernet port right side up, type II SD card reader, G sync would be a nice touch, 2070 or min 2060 dedicated card, HDMI 2.0a, display port and goes on, for less then $1800 Cdn tax in. Then realizes, looking over this wish list, I been watching BOAT RU-vid videos way too long, as all the deals are in the good ole USA. I been looking and currently the ACER Helios 300, latest 2020 version, sold from and ships by Amazonia.ca at $1699.00 Cdn, is probably where I will go (Only 2060 card, but I can live with that ~rolls eyes~ , not like I am running NASA). So basically, once again Canada is treated as a third world country for prices, except for that ACER H I just mentioned. The other laptops I am liking are the MSI GE66 (webcam 1080p) and GL65 on the Amazonia.ca site over the Lenovo 7i. Lenovo was another contender since they smartened up and added BT 5 and moved the webcam , along a few other features, though the word is "was", no longer. These MSI are more money then the ACER, but are a beast and both have a 2070 card. GL65 $1899 and GE66 $2399 (with a 1tB SSD), and priced less then this HP 15-dh1020ca, at the HP Canadian site, and currently think those MSI versions, are way better laptops. Mind you, I am still looking as Prime day deals is not till Oct 13th and who knows where that might lead. Then you think, Black Friday is only a month away from those Prime deals and what deals will come out then. So with a at this point snapshot, it comes down to ACER $1699 vs MSI $1899 or $2399, trash the HP $2499 (all $ Cdn mind you) and that ACER with tax in is at a very good price. Then you think, why am I over thinking this, piss or get off the potty and time to make a decision soon. Bob, as always, you kill it and thanks for another good review to make me ponder more on another laptop. It is sweet you all get free (usual) shipping in the continental USA, but if I wanted to buy one from there it can be nuts in the shipping cost, as in adding another almost $200 to the price. So, if those big boys in HP clearly want to win, this just adds to, should I wait even longer and see what another BOAT vid has to offer??( hahaha, groans!) Really compelling price point! Would be nice if it came with an open RAM slot so you could just throw another stick in there; if you're playing games that benefit from a 2070, you're probably also going to want 16 GB as a baseline, so having to scrap/sell 2 x 4 GB sticks isn't ideal. Still, the specs for the price are really impressive.

Why would they put 2 x 4GB RAM for this kind of specs, that's what I want to know.

im glad theyre improving the inside but i honestly hate how the outside of the omen laptops look. too blocky. i prefer the asus or msi style, or if possible something like the razer (but fatter because air flow)

Lack of Nvidia Optimus is always a deal breaker for me. 3 hours of battery life is terrible. Also thermals are not impressive at all, 80 degrees at just 30 watts? I thought HP improved thermals this year, or this is last year's cooling with the new CPU? Also an old 2070 mq, which lacks that new great low voltage GDDR6 vRAM. Otherwise a good laptop, but with way too many downsides.
